Though you be many miles away
We'll never be apart
I just reach out my hand
To feel the beating of your hearts
Joe Cole Dec 2017
I listen  to the sound of the breaking waves, smell the salt tang in the air
I watch the graceful seagulls ride the thermals way up there
No sound of human voice, no strident car alarms
I sit in natures solitude enraptured by her charms
The sea reflects the sinking sun in hues of red and gold
I'll never tire of such sights though I grow gray and old
The first gleam of the evening star appears in the ever growing dark
And the golden crescent of the moon begins her journey night
No words of mine can best describe natures perfect charm
This is peace, a perfect peace, tranquility and calm

Yeah these days they use the fancy term
But for us it didnt exist
Yes we killed and were killed
But who really gave a ****
Our therapy,  lets go and have a fight
With those who were fighting on our right
Yes, strong words were used, hard punches thrown
But they are my brothers, we are one
Our rules were simple
Watch a brother die
Then smack another brother in the eye
By birth or *** a brother not
And yet a brother never forgot
Yes, he gave his life for me
Just as I would have given mine for he
We answered when our country called
Take up arms lest we should fall
And for that my friend did die
But never did he hear the battle cry
Un etited: there never will be glory in fighting terrorism but still our brave boys and
girls die

T Rex thought he was the king but truly he was no such thing
he was a bully sad and weak who prayed on those to young to speak
Then came the day when baby Trice
got to close to Rexies lair
Rexie thoughg his luck had changed and now would play the Rexie game
Which was to take the young and weak
so soft and tender, good to eat
Rex thought I will have some of that
the baby trice will be quite a snack and fill a corner of my tum
But Rex had made a big mistake, oh dear a grave mistake
For round the corner came trice's mum weighing a bit
more than about three tonnes
Three big horns upon her head
One jab from those could leave Rex dead
She gave poor Rex an evil stare
said "Bite young Trice if you dare"
Then I will deal you a mighty thump
and I promise you your bone will crunch
Poor Rexie backed away in fear and in his eyes salty tears
People thought for many years that Rex was king and had no fear
But they didn't know Triceratops,  the bravest dinosaur of the lot
An un edited bit of fun

Trolls may rant and trolls may rave
But they have hollow minds and little do they gain
I've not yet seen a single troll get the daily poem
Perhaps it's their ineptitude caused by stagnation of the brain
They choose a victim without conscious thought
Then attack with words of bitter bile
But then forget the Wolf bites deep
But still retains his smile
Now trolls are big and ugly
With the foulest words and breath
But, oh yes trolls remember
THE WOLVES ALL RUN IN PACKS
In support of my good friend Quin

They shout, applaud and clap
When my poetry I express aloud
But the minute that my back is turned
They speak words of hate and scorn
Oh fickle friends with hearts and minds so split
Do thee not feel a tinge of guilt
Can you not have an honest word
Speak the truth about noun and verb
So word the honesty in your thought
The verbal ******* counts for nought
Just let the poets write

Marge and George had been married for 50 years
They made a pact
Who ever went first would come back
And tell the other what heaven was like
Came the day George was called
With his dying breath he told Marge
That he would keep the pact

A few months later Marge heard a voice calling her name
George she answered is it really you
Tell we what life's like on the other side

Well he said we wake up early and have *** several times
before breakfast
After breakfast its more *** then a sleep before lunch
After lunch its fun and games and more *** before supper
Once suppers over its more *** before bedtime

Oh George then surely you must be an angel in heaven
No he said, after I died I ended up as

When you stumble on the cliffs of life, cruel seas rage below
Just reach out and take my hand, I wont let you fall

When you lose the path, danger on every side
Just reach out and take my hand, I will be your guide

When your lost and alone in the darkness,  can see no end in sight
Just reach out and take my hand, I'll be your guiding light
Joe Cole Dec 2013
When you stumble on the cliffs of life
Cruel seas rage far below
Just reach out and take my hand
I wont let you fall

When your lost in the wilderness
Fear and danger on every side
Just reach out and take my hand
I will be your guide

Afraid and lonely in the darkness
Can see no hope in sight
Just reach out and take my hand
I will be your guiding light

Not sure where this came from or who wrote it.
Not even sure if its correct but I think it's suitable in the troubled times

**I said to the man who should at the dawn of the year
"Be not afraid but take my hand and step forth into the darkness
And thy path shall be safer than a known way"

From Americas rocky mountain tops to the Himalayan snow capped peaks
These are things of nature that all of us should
Keep

Australia's barren outback, England's green and pleasant
hills
Nature free for all mankind who seek her gentle
thrills

From the Amazon's tropic forest to the Arctic's icy
plains
All are things of natural beauty if you travel at natures
pace

The azure blue seas of the Pacific isles, cruel dark seas of the southern cape
All placed there by natures hand, to be respected without
hate

Drab brown plumage of the desert vulture, bright birds of
paradise
Birds of every color, birds of every
Size

Scorpions of the desert sand and the Grey Atlantic
Seals
All put there for a reason that only nature can
reveal

Think about the lion, Africa's king of
Beasts
The soft eyed Chinese panda that our children find so
cute

Mountain tops and hidden valleys,  vast lakes and rolling
seas
All a part of nature that should not be
abused

Animals, reptiles, birds put there for me and
you
They should be studied in the wild, not trapped inside a
zoo

We can't alter history or repair the damage that we've
caused
But we can try to stop the destruction of the world that's mine and
yours

I want to sit on the stoop with the good old boys
A scraggy old hound sat by my feet
To Chinwag about the good old days
When in the noonday sun we'd sleep
Of walking in the mountains
Of drinking from fresh streams
Not worried about the deer ****
But just living out our dream
Those days are now but memories
Just long held distant dreams
Now we just sit and reminisce
With my old dog at our feet

I cant do this anymore
words no longer flow
the mind is now an empty place
the words no longer flow

I loved to write poetic verse
but recently I've lost my nerve
because
the words no longer flow

I used to write of birds and flowers
of time spent in tranquil hours
Writing of the spume capped waves
writing of the things I love
but the words no longer flow

I've had my ups had my downs
been serious been the clown
but now it all has got to stop
because the words no longer flow

Take a walk in the wild woods
if you have the courage
Trees, dark, foreboding
Wooden hands reaching out
clasping, strangling.
But its all in your mind.
Take a walk in the wild woods,
relax in the peace and calm.
Free your mind, free your soul
Look, listen, be at peace, be free.
Don't worry about household bills,
dont worry about passing time
Time has no place in the wild woods
Just relax, dream and empty your mind
Joe Cole Jun 2014
'Twas not the way we lived
not the way we chose to die
But the dragon ships keep sailing
towards a foreign sky
Keep up the stroke to the beat of drum
Soon the wind will you have
soon you will be home
Swept ashore on a foreign shore
the gods now speak for us
put them to the sword and spear for our wealth
they must posses
They were men but fourty strong who did our lands asaill

They were vilking, strong off arm
and yet we still prevailed

It flows
It grows
(Yeah **** flows and mould grows)
Oh, oh my mother spread her thighs and birthed a genius
(Not sure about that, I think she was taking a dump)
I belong, I belong among the greats artistes
( At last we agree, Shakespeare and Keats are dead)
Oh foul foul world, those who cast scorn upon my wondrous talent
( SCORN!! Would I waste perfectly good scorn on you)
WHY do you hate and despise me so, mock me?
(Same as scorn, why waste a perfectly good mock)
Joe Cole Jun 2014
His life was in the city spent
But 'twas into the hills he went
In his pocket lighter and small knife
He never knew they could save his life
Alas he knew not what to do
And perished in icy mountain dew
With a knife he could have a shelter built
Of branches twigs and mountain grass
A lighter is the soul of life
The ultimate giver of life and fire
So as they lowered him to the grave
They learned the harsh lesson of the day
If you wish to the mountains go
Then learn thd lesson of what to do
Every year people die in the mountains and forests due to a lack of knowledge
Joe Cole Aug 2014
You know I'm in the twylight of my years
Not a problems, I will keep writing for one year or ten
It doesn't really matter
We have kids here who write
I ask you to encourage tlhem
Because they once were you
Nervous, uncertain
Me, I don't care just as long as they write
Young poets are the future of this site
Young people are the future of our countries

The axes sang their bitter song
And the blood flowed
Blood of innocent, gentle men
Men who pledged their lives to Peace
But...the Axe bit deep
Heart blood shed
And a man of god died
All in the cause of conflict and belief

But.....but have we not learned the lessons
From the errors of our past
Innocent men who only sought to help
Now beheaded in the dust
I don't care your religious views
Of your beliefs and vows
But I do believe in the sanctity of life
And mans right to be heard..
No matter what religion you follow

Love is not love when it leads to shattered dreams.
Love is not love when doubts are in between.
Love is not love when doubts assault your mind.
Love is not love when your thoughts and doubts entwine
Then what is love???

FOR STEPHEN E YOKUM
you know I lost the will to write
because the words just wouldn't form
In the space inside my head
So I took to living in the wild
using a tarp and not a tent
Sitting beside a log fire and gazing at the stars
And a million words all jumbled up
in the void within my mind
But then it all came together
once again making sense
After all poetry is just written words
the incentive always there
I think sleeping in the woods as I now often do
Is the inspiration to once more lift the pen
and send my words to you
Joe Cole May 2017
When I wrote make believe
When I wrote make believe I was lost in a fantasy world
A world where anything could become possible
In the forest I can see elves dancing to unknown tunes
I can see stars gleaming 'neath a sky blue moon
Hordes of dwarfs trampling fresh green leaves Beneath iron shod
boots and cloven hooves
Lose yourself into a dark closed mind
Close your eyes and let words flow
You see fantasy is in all of you
Try it, it's not so hard to do
so many write on subjects such as love, death, self harming, just let the fantasy in your mind take over
Joe Cole Jun 2014
Yes, come with me to the forest
high on the mountains side
No, no, leave aside the pack
and what it can provide
everything you need you carry
is in your pocket there
I hope
well in mine I have some paracord in case my laces I do break
A well honed folding knife I wouldn't be without
I carry very little but I can still survive

could you?

I'm no Knight nor Lord nor Peer
I have no fancy name
I am just me
Untitled
I have no stately homes
No manicured acres do I own
But I'm happy
You see
I have my crystal streams
I have my southern hills
My rugged cliff top paths
The white capped foaming seas
I have the howling winds
The gentle breeze of spring
The sweet perfume of wild flowers in the air
And natures orchestral sounds
A tent to call my home
So many paths to roam
I'm glad that I'm

She is a thirteen month old red Labrador *****
He is a little black Tom cat with no *****
But they are unusual lovers
Honestly they are like a couple of teenagers who can't leave
Each other alone
Amber is my daughters dog who I baby sit
As soon as she gets in my door in the mornings it starts
Running up to each other sniffing noses and bums
Have you ever seen an adult cat picked up by a dog and carried round the garden?
Well I've had cats and dogs all my life and I've never seen it until now
Sleeping time and Merlin is curled up between Amber's feet

It's a crazy world
This is actually happening as I write

No permanent home, no mobile phone
He doesn't need any of that.
All that he wants, all that he needs
Carried in a bag on his back

No hot morning shower to brighten his day
Just a dip in an icy cold stream
He wanders the byways and small country roads
Seeking to fulfill all his dreams

He needs no soft bed under a roof
Just a grassy bed under the moon
Far does he travel the small country lanes
He needs no bus tram or train

He's quite content with the life that he chose
The life of a wandering man
No beers or fine wines will he ever drink
For him cool clear water is fine

For his dinner the food that nature provides
So no worries about earning a wage
His life is just an unfinished book
Each new day the start of an unwritten page

He's quite content living this way
Living under the moon and the stars
But he knows it will end as for all men it must
When he finally writes his last page.

The inspiration to re post this came after reading Vagrant by Dave
All to often nations forget those who served and gave their all for their countries

Old bent and broken like some worn out shoe
Why? Where did I go wrong, what did I do?
I served my country and paid all my dues
Now all I have left is this worn threadbare suit
For the next few hours I'll just wander the streets
Find an empty doorway, have a few hours sleep
Food! Well at my age a littles enough
A few discarded chips or a hard stale crust
I think of my comrades who have up their lives
Now I wish I'd died with them, beside them to lie
It's not my fault that I've grown tired and old
But who's going to mourn me as my body grows cold?
Joe Cole Aug 2015
In the corner sits and old wooden rocking chair
Just as it's sat for the last hundred years
Worn and polished with the patina of age and use

I sit, pencil and pad in hand trying to visualize
What it has witnessed over the years long past
Tears of happiness, tears of heartbreak
Of births and of death

Christmases and birthdays when times were hard
Times when money was scarce
But times when the children understood
Times when children were content, with the little that they had

That old chair has sat there in the corner
For at least a hundred years
I read stories in the grainy polished woodwork
And let my imagination loose
Joe Cole Mar 2016
Went walking in the high woods this morning
A light dusting of overnight snow glinting in the sunlight
Like a million perfect diamonds
Over to my right dense forest with barely a track seen
I will save that place for later in the year when
For a few days and nights it will become my refuge
I love such places, clean fresh air and a cold breeze blowing
Very few other people here , to early for them
Such a perfect setting to start the day
Joe Cole Aug 2014
Crazy maybe, OK definitely
But earlier today I went walking in the rain.
Heavy rain
Just shorts, tee-shirt and sandals
Mollie was happy, she still went into the river
For her daily swim
I wanted to get wet
To feel clean and fresh
All my problems washed away by the rain
Maybe for a few hours anyway
I have always loved the rain
The giver of life
Its almost as though my life was being renewed
Refreshed
Why don't you try a walk in the rain
Joe Cole Apr 2023
You don't need to drive for miles
To experience the wild side of life
Find any small patch of woods
And for a while forget about daily strife
Don't go in the daytime when others might be there
But wait until the evening time and experience
And breath deep of night time air
So walk a little way in the ever growing dark
Now stop and listen to the noises of the night
What is that bird that never stops her song
What is the small creature that creeps and crawls along
That screaming noise that sets your heart on fire
Beneath the waning moon
That's a ***** calling for her mate
In the dark of midnights gloom
So folks you don't have to go to far from your fire side
Just a hundred metres from your home
You can walk on the wild side
Joe Cole Jan 2015
About twelve months ago we walked the highland
That place where eagles soar
This time it's going to be different
As I open yet another of natures doors
Stout boots, flask of soup and camera
The only things you'll need
Maybe a sandwich or two if you get hungry for a feed
Now you must place your trust in me
For we go not by man made paths
We're going to follow the paths that nature made
And those paths aren't so wide
And so we leave the car park
Enter winters dank dark woods
Doesn't look that inviting
But I promise it will be good
The meandering path we follow
To you might not be so clear
But this path we've chosen
Is the one used by the deer
See that little cloven hoof print?
Well it points the way to go
More pointed at the front
From the size it was a doe
Stop for a moment and leave the path
Drag your boots through the rotting vegetation
Then step back, wait for the show
See I told you and it has appeared as if on que
The brilliant red breast robin has shown up just for you
He's got brains, he knows that when you stir the leaves
For you have done the work for him
Now he can have a feed
I could go on about all the other birds and animals you can see when you step off the beaten path but I don't want to write about 50/60 more lines

These days I still wander the fields and forests
But only from the comfort of my arm chair
On a warm early spring day like today
I can still smell the heady scent of the pine trees
And watch the world class acrobatics of squirrels at play
The fresh green shoots of bluebells brush my boots
As I wander deeper into the forest following unseen paths
I sit under the spreading boughs of a stately oak
For a cigarette and a mug of sweet tea from my flask
My Mollly dog has long gone but Maisie now rest her head on my boot
I'm comfortable here in the woods, happy in my own company with pad and pencil in hand
All of this from the comfort of my arm chair because I can no longer wander in the woods

I wander the hills and valleys
In the wet and in the fine
Searching for answers to unasked questions
Answers I know I'll never find
We all have unanswered questions

I wander in the mists of time
'Mid the spectral ghosts of poets now long gone
Shakespeare, Tennyson, Keats
But now Ernesto walks among them
Bones, now turned to dust
Skeletal remains so few
But written words survive
Bodies crumble, wither, and soon so little remains
But the written word is never lost
And so the memories remain
I would like to thank my friend Wolf for letting us know that a great talent has left us. He wrote for himself with honesty, he wrote for us with hope in his heart

FACT, we are to clean
Yes it's true
We shower twice a day
And wash away our immunity to bacteria
Our water is full of chlorine
And other crap
And we wonder why people are dying
The human body has (had a natural immunity)
But we in our wisdom are destroying it
I've drunk out of rivers, streams and yes, even toilet bowls
And never got ill
Why?
Because the natural balance of nature
And the natural antibodies in my not so clean body
Allowed me to compensate
Think about your ancestors
If they were very lucky
One bath a week
Water probably shared by three others
They rarely got ill
So who was right
Joe Cole Mar 2015
Yes
We welcomed them into our country
Gave them a better quality of life
And now they preach on our street corners
Preach that Christianity must die
I have no problems
With the Hijab or the veil
But I do have a major problem
When my beliefs are put on trial
A simple English school
Pupils brown and black and white
Well we're a multi cultural nation
And so the balance is just right
But now a woman of Islam
Is saying its all wrong
Cast out the non believers
And their non Islamic songs
She has publicly stated
That all the white kids should go
That here in Englands green and pleasant land
Muslim law should rule
Every race and every nation has the right
To have their say
But when you're a guest in another country
Then you should know your place
Yes, a Muslim woman here in UK wants the English children kicked out of their school and the places taken by Muslim children

But there is always the funny side to war

Just four of us about 3000 feet up on the side of a mountain
Our home an overhang in the rocks
With a great slab of fallen rock in front
Perfect and the only other residents scorpions, centipedes and camel spiders
About 2am, time for a shovel reccee
( never done in daylight)
Anyway a brilliant full moon
No grey shades just black and white
Drop my shorts and squat
Straight onto a cammel thorn bush
Not a problem except those thorns could be an inch long
Oh what fun my mates had with a pair of pliers

Night radio watch, silent, eirie, nervous
After all we were in their territory
A rattling banging noise just a few yards away
******* bricks I put 32 rounds of 9 mil
In there from my sterling
I killed every cooking *** we had and the cooker
The cat ran out without a mark
Joe Cole Jan 2015
Well
The mornings are getting lighter
Although winter hasn't yet
Reared her ugly head
But
The anticipation is there
The anticipation of warmer air
Yes birds do still sing
But with a winter sadness in their song
They know what is yet to come
Before winters bite is done
But eventually nature will play the card
Warmth once more will fight
Winter so hard
Bird song from sadness to love will sound
Fresh new shoots will spring
Forth from the land
From winters bitter death new life begins
Open wide your arms
And welcome spring

We the men of the Sussex Weald
When winters nights are long
Sit beside the deep log fire
And sing the Sussex songs
We talk of crops and fertile soil
Of rich earth turned by the plough
Of fishing boats who from harbours small
Reap a harvest from the shoals
Strong ale shared by those who care
About the Sussex weald
Yes we, we who care we will be the shield
We the men of the Southern downs
Yes we of the Sussex weald
To no man will we go on bended knee
To no man will we yield
I am a man of the Sussex weald, a man of the southern hills

What a silly statement, question
I have a glass of scotch, just enough light to see.
A little black cat on the arm of my chair,
a little black dog with her head on my lap.
The TV is on in the corner but I dont really know what is on
I'm quite content just to sit here
alone with the thoughts in my mind
This is now, this is me

You made your choice and walked away from what I offered you
A cabin on the mountain side with sea and forest views

I offered you your freedom from a life of toil and misery
But someone some where out there decided it wasn't meant to be

The first time that I met you you were high and dressed in rags
You were hanging around with the wrong crowd and most of them were bad

Where are you now I wonder, with me you would have been treated like a queen
Are you laying in some filthy gutter having alcohol fueld dreams?

Why did you let it happen, what turned you onto crack?
Oh somebody said try it, it won't hurt you. Well this is the end result

Your life gets a little shorter every time you take a puff
You're poisoning every body cell when you use that filthy stuff

Where do you get your money to get your ***** smoke?
Perhaps you sell your body to every other passing bloke

When I first met you you were beautiful,  just like a pageant queen
But now your face is *****, ***** grey and worn

It's to late now to show remorse for the things that you have done
The man in black is waiting and your life will soon be gone
Joe Cole Oct 2014
Is it the billions in gold reserves?
NO
Is it the multi millionaires who run vast corporations?
NO
Perhaps its the scientist who waste billions researching
theories that will never work
NO
The wealth of a nation is you
The woman who cleans the public toilets
And earns barely enough to survive
The farmer working in all weather conditions
So you have food on your table
Fishermen who daily risk their lives on your behalf
The young kids in college
These then are the wealth of a nation

YOU ARE THE NATIONS WEALTH
