the wind swirls in tight circles
sunshine actually flows
clouds may appear to move
but in actuality they are constantly
disappearing and reappearing
over their entire width and breadth
raindrops fall as spheres
seasons change at their own pace
air pressure is remarkably consistent
snow is frozen vapor
it skips over the liquid phase
if you could hop in your car
and drive 60 mph straight up
you would reach the extent of atmosphere
where weather occurs
so, a calm, sun filled early morning in October
is even more of a miracle than some would suggest

a pig in a poke
a pie in the sky
the race to the swift
and an eye for an eye
what goes will come
the old college try
a bird in the hand
a sacrifice fly
quick on the draw
Boston cream pie
salt in a wound
sleeping dogs lie
death warmed over
another wise guy
lay down the law
Friday fish fry
carrot and stick
deny deny deny
smell the coffee
the cups bone dry
walk on egg shells
the long goodbye
off your rocker
semi semi-dry
a kangaroo court
a private eye
fingers crossed
Captain Bligh
a list of idioms
then a rhyme with ‘I’

this is what must be done
great changes are coming
put down the news
turn off the **** tube
sip coffee and think

madness is my family
we celebrate the holidays together
in silences broken only by memories
then we clean up
and revert to our own worlds
with swirling clouds
fields of grain frozen under the outlined sun
orchards surround fenced in farms
busy preparing the next feast

a great search for meaning is all I see in the world
from the handprints on sooty cave walls in France
to the gold foiled satellites that orbit above
but thoughts far out number deeds
accomplishment is very rare
seasons change all by themselves
I am very puny and immensely large
all at the same time
and understanding most certainly is met along the way
it must suffer from forgetfulness

the width and breadth of the world
people helping one another
the flood rages
the sky stays dry for ages
in between lies art and poetry
I suppose you could use a painting as shelter
or subsist for awhile on boiled books
build bridges using abstract sculptures
maybe a violin concerto could be a source
of necessary vitamins
art wont get you very far but it’s a step in the right direction

numbers are fascinating fictions
since their existence is in question
by some very smart people
but at the same time
are greatly accepted as truth
by a great mass of data
balanced on a pin
