Auburn hair falls on shoulders,
as she climbs out of the bed,
old Nolan Ryan t-shirt, her gown,
turquoise *******, a vision.

A little wiggle as she walks out of the room,
a treat because she knows that I am watching,
I can still feel the heat from last nights events,
and long for a morning repeat.

Now walking around teasing,
in fuzzy house shoes,
almost close enough to me to grab,
but giggling just out of reach.

A kiss and an order
get up, we have stuff to do,
I get up and obey,
with a pinch and yes ma'am.

Delicate features
a floral perfume,
in deep thoughts
of nature's beauty.

Heavy lidded eyes
contemplate questions,
with a raised brow,
as the answers grow.

A soft breeze blows
across her garden,
as yellow butterflies ride
the swirling current.

The bright sun warms
and nourishes
her natural skin,
no makeup here.
The Fire Burns Nov 2017
Hair pulled back into a pony tail,
she walks the crowd not being seen,
everything she tries and fails,
at least to her, that's the way it seems.

Lost in the groove of guitar town,
tries covering up the fear with *****,
when everyone laughs and smiles, she frowns,
in the middle of the night you must choose.

A tune drifts in from the alley
a beautiful voice slurrs.

In this place their are no winners,
only people just trying  to get by,
the holier than thou are still sinners,
and even fallen angels long to fly.
Death pursues us all,
no matter how we run,
so just hear my call,
and try to have some fun.

She search's through the mist,
for the man who sings the song,
but the alleyway is empty
but she knew this all along.

She tightrope walks sanity,
though she hears them all,
not understanding, but giving into vanity,
she dresses herself up, and heeds the call.

All alone she stands,
in pools of neon light,
she walks into the bar,
with the open mic.

And she sings.

In this place their are no winners,
only people just trying  to get by,
the holier than thou are still sinners,
and even fallen angels long to fly.
Death pursues us all,
no matter how we run,
so just hear my call,
and try to have some fun.

With marmalade hair of feathered curls,
I stare into azure eyes, touching my heart,
meandering down a freckled neckline,
after humming a hymn into rose-colored lips.

Her angel wings retracted,
covered with filigree embedded lace,
a corset of purple velvet orbits her core,
I fall upon her like dawn on the day.

In a castle room warmed with tapestries
upon stone walls as old as the galaxy,
ancient eyes stare out at us,
from a portrait of a long-lost ancestor.

A smile touches the lips,
as parchment paper cracks,
a ghostly approving moan,
mixes with ours.

Sound of snow,
a glint of light,
puffs of glowing breath,
an Iditarod morning.
The Fire Burns Nov 2017
I ride upon an eagles back,
feathers whooshing in the wind,
diving toward the mirrored lake,
Yellow talons extended for fish.

Diving deep into the ocean,
down into the abyssal trench,
searching for Architeuthis,
I swim with the blue whale,

From limb to limb swinging,
under emerald green canopy,
my Gibbon host stops for juicy fruit,
rain forest views Tarzan style.

We lie in wait just eyes showing,
among the sawgrass we hide,
Everglades water warmed but the sun,
alligator senses tuned to a deer.

Gliding through the desert sand,
one s curve after another,
following a viper pheremone trails,
suddenly tied in knots as we mate.

White fur on white snow we can not be seen,
large strides and large feet, only tracks left,
Himalayan winds whip climbers hi viz jackets,
we watch, and walk by, a movement on peripheral vision.

Gasping, I awaken in a pool of sweat,
tent fly slowly ***** in the breeze,
red glowing embers smoke nearby,
I go back to sleep.

A million passing faces
on the highway and back roads
a two finger salute from the steering wheel
anonymously passing, never to be known.

Eye contact and a nod or a hello,
passing down the hospital hallway,
in 12 different facilities over 17 years
simply another possibility passed by.

A road passed by, and a wonder
where does that go, as a bicycling child
heads down it at full speed
with a look over his shoulder.

Random chance, or is it fate or destiny,
that set people in our path?
I like to thinks it's free will,
as I like to be in control.

Oh how we may be different,
if we knocked on random doors,
with a smile and conversation,
in a huge sky rise apartment building.

The many combinations,
mind-boggling statistics,
of the paths, we could cross,
yet we are unable, due to time and distance.

Handfuls of joy,
wrapped up in lace,
serpentine curves,
a pleasure to trace.

Removing her layers,
back to her core,
like peeling peaches,
your just want some.more.

Smooth tan skin,
capped in pink,
unleashing her beauty,
I stare with no blink.

The smell of perfume,
the taste of her skin,
with warm exhaled breaths,
and then I begin.

Exploring her slopes,
circling around,
my tongues an explorer,
searching base to the crown.

When at last my mouth,
envelopes the prize,
she let's out,
pleasured moans and sighs.

Don't stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep,
truer words were never spoken,
never shall I be awoken.

Do not visit me here,
I have no pain and no fear,
now, I float upon the wind,
no longer am I chagrinned.

I am free of earthly bonds,
I walk among the trees and ponds,
the clouds and mountains with me commune,
from life's stress, I'm now immune.

So remember me and the good times,
while I was in my living in my prime,
forget the end, it was no longer me,
please listen and hear my plea.

Go on about your life and live,
give to all what you have to give,
Don't stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.

I counted the freckles in her face
and those proceeded down her neck,
the few remaining faded into her chest,
where the sun rarely shined.

The white linen she was covered with,
a stark contrast to her red hair,
rising slowly up and down,
I lay watching her breathing.

Eyes moving behind eyelids,
caught in the midst of a dream,
I know they are blue,
and I wonder what they see.

The golden sun breaches the window,
a ray directly in her eyes,
a sleepy sigh from her lips,
as she rolls to her other side.

I rise and move,
the coffee brews,
as we begin another day.
together.

Plans have been made
Rooms have been booked
The boat is finally ready
Start tying on hooks

The guys are excited
Will see them all soon
Port O'Connor get ready
Were gonna fish your lagoon

Also your bays
And maybe your jetties
Maybe the surf
Flounder gigging, get ready
The Fire Burns Oct 2016
Strip the thorns
and adorn her hair
Pair of Roses
I breathe her air

Sweetness flows
a glow in her cheeks
She approaches me
gives me a kiss, she is not meek

Passions fire lit
wires crossed and sparks ignite
embossed by roaming hands
our molecules vibrate and excite

A piece of reality broken free
Into distant wonders we can see
That nothing is ever truly free
Not even the light we use to see

Through the mirror of our eyes
We seek to find the perfect prize
Though we shouldn't be surprised
We always are when at last we die

A piece of reality in the wind
Hoping the universe will mend
Hoping that god will soon send
Some one for us to befriend

Alternate realities through the fold
Some of them have broke the mold
All of us are bought and sold
By others who are so bold

A piece of reality on the waves
Floating into darkened caves
Being pursued by those that crave
To never ever enter a grave

But alas time is up
We all grow old don't stay a pup
It is time to fill our cup
And have a toast before we sup

A piece of reality now no more
It could not survive the utter bores
Simply looking for easy doors
And finally slipped between floor boards

Sitting here sand in my crack,
in my RTIC coke and black jack,
rod and reel bounces in pvc,
waiting on tides to change the sea.

Flip flops, with bottle opener underneath,
you know the ones made by Reef,
yee yee cap shading the sun,
days on the beach are loaded with fun.

Costa lenses tinted green,
polarized to cut the sheen,
sun rays reflected off tanned tone skin,
I wish this is the place I was in.

Alas, I'm here at home, daydream,
COVID 19 has me quarantined,
I sit and sit, all projects complete,
hoping for the virus to retreat.

With Swiss cheese upon her nails,
I blew the wind upon her sails,
pleasure and pain scratched down my back,
with my hunger I did attack.

Set her oven temp up high,
can hardly wait for her pie,
steaming, hot, and quickly ready,
and the aroma, always heady.

Oh I wish for crispy crust,
a way to contain my syrupy lust,
stuffed with fillings made of meat,
it would make my night complete.

Decide your fate,
walk around the lake,
with me holding hands,
for so long I have planned.

Summer sun sinking down,
laying you upon the ground,
blue jean shorts and bikini top,
pull them off, just don't stop.

Her hair up in a ponytail,
on a bronzed body, I set sail,
first to starboard, then to port
heading toward her last resort.

As darkness sets,
I close all bets,
bullets fired from a gun,
I guess this means that I have won.

My angel lays on unfolded wings
my heart it suddenly sings,
beauty captured in the twilight,
forever burns in my eyesight.
The Fire Burns Aug 2017
Crimson carpet path,
celebrated actions or art,
kept apart from the peasants
by electric velvet cords.

As I walk, surrounded
cameras flash
and beautiful people
part as if on command.

I start to believe
what I read and I am told,
I have risen above the others
and now pronounce to them.

Like a religious leader,
but not lost in fervor,
no, simply in my own opinions
which I believe are gospel.

The truth is I'm no better
than the vagrant on the street,
the homeless under the bridge
or the people on the ropes periphery.

Yet I have forgotten this,
and will ride like a Byzantine king,
until one day, my sedia gestatoria
crashes to the ground, abandoned.

Rock slopes capped
in oranges and browns,
leaves waterfall down the edges,
pooling at the base.

The zephyr sets them in motion,
a river of leaves in flash flood,
dancing colors wash through,
the arroyo dry, but still flowing.

Parked north of town,
in the back of a truck,
hear the dairy heifers low
odor of manure on the wind
we watch the skies for UFO.

Population fluctuations
and oil is on the move,
Navajo refinery seasoning the air
is it boom or is it bust
main street strolling, we do not care.

Out west of town, way on out,
we go to our parking spot
on the breeze methane and sulfur scent
watching oil field flares dance
is how our night is spent.

FLETC trainees from all over,
flood Walmart and the bars,
floating as the evening falls
the smell of steaks at Adobe Rose
mixed with live music and the night bird calls.

South of town another spot
headed toward Brantley Lake
with thoughts of caves to explore
and roasting green chile smoke nearby
it starts with a kiss and always leads to more.

Friday nights at the bowl
the smell of blood and sweat,
halogen lights and screaming crowds
quaint downtown statues
vibrate it's so loud.

The smell of pinon and desert dust,
and the air is just a bit cooler,
we roam eastward toward Hope,
the mountains just a bit further now,
this is how we cope.
Artesia is a Town in New Mexico, between Roswell to the north and Carlsbad to the south.

Ruins of a once great wall
now little more than a path
leading to nowhere
and nothing but pain
on either side

Jagged rocks reach skyward
surrounded by woeful mists
a metaphor and future of all
conceive, improve, rise
and fall into chaos and death

Only to be found, but not learned from
by the next generations
exposed by archeologists
researching the past
that is also the future

Upon the meadow green, she stands,
creamy white sheep, walk near,
blue gingham dress, ***** in the wind,
auburn locks held by hands.

Shepherds crook, gleams in the sun.
leaned up against a nearby tree,
a spotted heeler pants at her side
just returned from having fun.

A pond glows silver down the hill,
an acre mirror reflecting light,
a whooshing sound from behind,
as the breeze turns the windmill.

A scene set and burned in my mind,
to be traveled to, at my leisure,
to escape the day to day.
a better one I've yet to find.

This season just isn't right,
We didn't even put up Christmas lights,
Not sure why it feels this way,
As we wait for Santa's sleigh.

No Christmas party just no time,
Our best friends moving is a crime,
It's like a pall has been cast,
I'm not sure how long it will last.

No crazy presents, kids growing up,
My son drives his own truck,
Daughter, gone to college now,
Time just goes by too fast, wow.

So as another year-end draws near,
Somebody hand me an ice-cold beer,
Need something to dull emotion,
But nothing stops the clocks forward motion.
The Fire Burns Sep 2016
Ashes hang in the air
light halos glow
not a whiff of wind
it would help if it would blow

Swings sag silently
not one moves
no children's laughter
lightens the mood

a layer of soot
clothes the ground
all is quiet
not a single sound

I hear my breathing
in my hazmat gear
as I look around
for survivors in fear

I haven't found any
not a single one
its hard in the dark
days since we've seen the sun
The Fire Burns Aug 2017
The clink of ice falling in,
condensation gathers,
beading and running,
like sweat on a summer day.

From the bottle, I pour,
a steady stream of
12-year-old amber liquid,
made on an island in Scotland.
The Fire Burns Aug 2017
Landlocked,
but in my mind,
I see the sea,

Crashing waves,
I feel the spray,
and hear the roar.

In memories of the past,
and in music's melodies, I travel
from Marina del Rey to the Frio river.

Smooth clear water,
rushing through white rocks
dressed with green moss.

Beauties in inner tubes
float by, with coolers strapped,
but those never lasted.

I have loved and worshiped
but that's gone with the breeze,
now I sit and soak and remember.
The Fire Burns Dec 2017
Mirrored footsteps on pine needles,
oak leaves crispy crack each step,
I can hear faint breaths from behind me,
but each time I look, nothing.

Faded shadows swirl behind trees,
faces in the gray and black bark wink,
taunting me, feeding on my paranoia,
birds fly, startled by something not far.

Knocking sounds in the distance,
something flies by my head,
a rock bounces across my path,
a giant splash from the creek.

I proceed at my own risk,
large footprints in the mud,
suddenly I am surrounded,
a dozen deer run by, tails flagging.

A mountain lion screams in the distance,
is that in fear or warning,
either way I walk in the territory,
of large hairy beasts, afraid, but unconvinced.
The Fire Burns Dec 2016
Night disturbed
by calling birds
in a cacophony
as stars twinkle brightly
I sit lost in the night

Orion stands guard
Perseus as well
Taurus and Lepus, graze
Auriga rides nearby
Castor and Pollux, Gemini shines

Streaking shooting stars
satellites drifting in their orbit
green and red lights
of the occasional plane
season the heavens

All these high above
while we watch
in the darkness
lost in the universe
that we can see
The Fire Burns Sep 2016
A bare breast
Peeks from the covers
That have fallen
Pert in the cold
As the fan blows
And I watch
Fascinated
At her breathing
And her body
As she sleeps
The Fire Burns Aug 2017
Confused emotion,
these feelings inside of me,
enthralled by her lust.

Mesmerizing motions,
as hips sway,
ponytail potions,
as ribbons play.

A piece of mind,
gone astray,
watching her,
walk away.
The Fire Burns Aug 2017
The sun sets on horizons west,
the last bit of orange and blue hangs on,
microwave towers, white and red flashing,
take over the distant view as dark falls.

A Cheshire cat moon, fuzzy,
Venus shines too, blurry,
both shrouded in mystery
and in misty opaque clouds.

Orion and Pleiades, glow,
fighting through the curtain,
just a hint of their true brightness,
as the low clouds persist.

Suddenly, a breeze blows, cool,
and the skies open up,
revealing the true beauty,
of the sky, out in the country.

The milky way, a streak across the sky,
twinkling stars forming other constellations,
the moon continues its waxing grin,
as Venus winks happily, now that it can see.
The Fire Burns Aug 2017
The smell of beer and fears
catch my nose as I walk in,
the tinkling ivories music drifts
across the floor to me.

My mind is filled with stories
as the music inspires my mind,
I create a mental biography
for all the people here.

The smiling bartender
fills up the pianist's cup,
they share a joke and a smoke,
as a new song begins to play.

I feel I know these people
though I know nary a name,
they came here for something
we are all searching for a reason.

I walk over and drop a tip
in the jar on the top of the piano,
a wink from the musician
and a pat from the old man sitting.

De ja vu strikes
have I been here before
as I hear the old man
ask for a memory to be played.

The Fire Burns Sep 2016
The stars call
But we can never answer
We can but look
But never visit

Fuzzy beautiful images
Sent back for study
By machines
With names of great ones
Long since dead

Swirling nebulae
The most beautiful colors imagined
In shapes of horsehead and *****
Butterflies and other fantastic creatures

Stars form connect the dot pages in the sky
Named for Greek myths', and animals
Pleiades, Orion, Pegasus, Andromeda
Ursa major and minor, Cygnus

The deep field picture
Show us the breadth of the universe
Galaxy upon galaxy
Rings, and helix, and discs

Planets we discover, the possibilities
But we just know they are there
Because of a wobble, or a dimming
Of the star they orbit

Light years separate us from our quarry
Unsurmountable distances
With today's technology
Perhaps some day

From the lips of ancients,
words unheard,
carved into tablets of clay,
and walls of stone.

Hieroglyphics and petroglyphs,
Sanskrit scratches like from a chicken,
in the dust off a picked over yard,
unintelligible, but fascinating.

Deciphering takes time,
time is everlasting,
suddenly a keyword is found,
opening the meanings.

The poetry of your heart,
to me is no longer a conundrum,
understanding is mine,
love is mine.

Time was not friendly,
but what was put in,
is worth every tear and sweet drop,
tenfold of what was received.

Blindfolded
naked
she sits in
complete darkness

Goosebumps raise
warm breath blows
fingertips trace
ears whispered in

A wet trail starts at her knee
the cold explores her body
shoulders and spine
the curve under breast

The ice is replaced
by smoking hot softness
moving around *******
and inside elbows

Faster now
legs parted
petals explored
breathing faster

And then nothing
blindfold ripped off
she is all alone
her phone chirps, a text

Come outside to the pool!
The Fire Burns Sep 2016
A cloud wrapped mountain
Looms large in the distance
The forest, emerald green
From the recent rains

A powder blue sky
Shows amongst the clouds
A flock of white wing dove
Pace the truck for a mile

The last bit of summer
Hangs in the air
But the nights tell
A story of changing seasons

The nighttime's chill
Will begin to seep
Into the day
And chap lips and faces

Soon the mountain
Will be blanketed in snow
Sparkling white
Against the evergreens

My emotions slowly sink,
drowning in the muck.

Gasping for breaths,
searching for footholds.

Slowly succumbing to truths
realizing, the fault is mine.

I own it as my heart breaks,
yet the clock still keeps time.

Looking for a port of call
a slot in a marina stall
park my boat
and as it floats

I will walk
and find a talk
with someone who is new
share a meal, something to chew

discover myself in their eyes
destroy all my selfish lies
understand that I am me
just look, anyone can see

So no more will I hide
on my boat, for long rides
Now my boat will be shared
on afternoons, with those that care
The Fire Burns Oct 2016
In the flow of the milieu
perceived truths heard
in eloquent mellifluous words
spoken by vivacious folks

Pure fluff spewed
garrulously into the crowd
like ether floating
there but not

Loquacious nothings
become, did you hears?
sipping beer and wine
while gathered

A good time
was had by all
nothing learned
but relaxation
The Fire Burns Sep 2017
The full moon cresting the horizon,
red to orange to gold then silver,
a crispness in the air, a bit cooler,
as the breeze illicits a shiver.

Leaves crunch underfoot,
as Pegasus flies across the sky,
each star an exquisite diamond,
shining through the atmosphere.

Suddenly the smell of leaf smoke
touches my nose, leaving me longing,
smores and hot chocolate and a blanket,
snuggled up with my wife.

Memories taste like candy,
as a smile of trick or treaters
like the walking dead,
haunts my thoughts.

A change of winds direction,
cinnamon, allspice and nutmeg,
the neighbor baking,
thanksgiving will soon be here.

I sit back in the porch swing,
clear my mind of thought,
and just enjoy the early darkness,
as summer fades away.
The Fire Burns Aug 2017

the light and reflection is blinding,

The Fire Burns Sep 2016
Glass flat water clear as a crystal
No blemish detected not even a ripple
4 wheel drive brought me here
A tent some food and a cooler of beer

A week here will be just fine
All alone, to clear my mind
Commune with god in my outdoor church
Untangle my thoughts out of this lurch

A couple of fishing rods, tackle and bait
Looking for dinner, fish to pull my line straight

Put on a chub on let it sink to the bottom
that one sits, take a walk, see if I can spot them
One rod out, fly rod in hand, ease around the edge
Cast out with my fly, I see a flash by a ledge

Trout hits my fly and the fight is on
Work him in until his fight is gone

Dinner in the creel, I look around
Other rod bent over clear to the ground
Run over to it and set the hook
Something pulls back,  deep I can't give it a look

The fight is on reel screams out drag
whatever this is will cause me to brag
I win the fight, a 42 inch pike
Stocked for the week, I'll go on a hike

The Northern Light shone down
through the Dancing Pines.
Illuminating the Red Stag,
as it walked through Salt Creek.

Jim Beam and Ezra Brooks,
were headed to the Caribou Crossing.
To hunt for meat, for the freezer
and stock it for the long winter.

Under the Midnight Moon,
Forty Creek streamed over a waterfall.
Creating a Canadian Mist, that ringed
Evan Williams head like a Crown Royal.

George Dickel and Jack Daniels
hunted Wild Turkey, with a single barrel
shotgun, alongside the Pendleton river.
The Makers Mark, reflected sunlight on the stock.

Johnny Walker went to see
Basil Hayden, to talk about finances
and to see if he could cure
his case of the blues.

Fear's breath
exhaling ferociously
as I run.

Tight back alleyways
smelling of trash
and death

Footsteps behind me
the spark of blade on brick
causing terrifying shadows

Stop
hide in the shadows
try to calm

There he is
passing by me
10 inch blade in hand

Suddenly he stops
and turns back
the knife raises

A rat rushes out from beside me
followed by a black cat
his eyes follow them into the alley

His white teeth reflect
a sickening grin
as he turns and walks away

I wait, till I am sure he is gone
stepping out of the shadows
I look

Alone
I quickly back track
I see the open road ahead

One more side alley
to pass and home
free

The moon has risen
lighting the alleys mouth
he steps from around the corner

Terror in silhouette
blade glinting
I scream

And then nothing
silence
except for the dripping

Of blood onto the ground
as the last breath is gasped
and he falls, in front of me

Rescued
but how?
I look down

His knife is in my hand
The Fire Burns May 2020
Nights gossamer gown now burned away,
I sit and look across a field of hay,
in the distance, deer now feed,
I wonder where this day will lead.

The coffee with its own cream clouds,
fuel, the thoughts of screaming crowds,
but for now, I am here alone,
sitting on my back porch throne.

Gravel, dirt or old blacktops
cruising around, not many stops
through a pasture or tunnel of trees
backroad therapy sets your soul free

Driving around, might even get stuck
No high dollar cooler in back of my truck
Just an old igloo, full of beer on ice
Drink them to fast for that yeti price

Backroads and beer
Nobody else here
No cops around
Jamming country sounds

Just me, my lady, my old red heeler
Flip channels, check score, cowboys and Steelers
Blanket and a picnic behind the seat
Pull over in the shade for an afternoon treat

Might stop at the creek for a skinny dip
Squeeze her tight and kiss her lips
Chasing each other and splashing water
Keeping cool as the evening gets hotter

Backroads and beer
Nobody else here
No cops around
Jamming country sounds

Mountains blue, pop the top
This is so fun may never stop
Out in the country is the place to be
No suit, no tie, completely free

Ol red starts barking, sees a rabbit
Pull over, he jumps out to grab it
The chase is on, we watch and see
Reds tongue is flapping but rabbit ran free

Backroads and beer
Nobody else here
No cops around
Jamming country sounds
