Actions speak louder
than hearing
your missing words,
so I think I'll sip
some summer rose,
crack the morning paper,
read the comic strips
& maybe chuckle.

Bundled up in a down vest &
wearing my monogramed knit cap,
the dog with the bee on his tail
spoke clairvoyantly to me,
revealed the great mystery
about written words
and how they can
only heal so much,
whispering
enough is enough,
sooner or later,
it'll be time to collect
more broken toys,
most certainly
you are not mad,
you're just
trying to resurrect ghosts
& find my wind-up key.

I don't know how to look at you now
Because I can't let go of how I looked at you then
Always searching

Where were we headed
When we left it all behind
The thunder of our youth
The hormones of our prime

Freely we roamed, ages so high
Scoffing at the idea of norm
Repetitive nuclear existence
Meaning grow up and conform

Wearing the blissfulness of denial
We disavowed the pure to defile
We refused the road of integrity
And shun the ways of longevity

And so we pay
As our bodies ailing age
Yet
How glorious were those days!

Wishing on a star
Throwing change in a fountain
I never saw a *** of gold at the end of the rainbow
Chasing dreams, even though it seems impossible, at times
I might have some luck for a change, or do you think it strange?
What did you wish to be when you were younger?
