Heaven's Purple and Blue
We watched you as you drifted
in and out, in and out
we wondered what you were seeing
we did hope, you’d come around

We knew you were dying
not one word, could be found
your will never stopped trying
to find a way, to rebound

Was your struggle in vain
since it’s not anything you can now explain?

I guess we didn’t fully know you
But how could we since life’s a moment
Can we sit and talk in heaven’s purple blue
One more time with you?

In back yards we can barely
see the stars of crystals light
When something changes in
what was ours, leaves tonight

Silence fills your breathing
your soul passes, right by us
do you see those lights beaming
in front of you, is it Jesus?

I guess we didn’t fully know you
But how could we since it was a moment
That you were with us
Will there be time to know you
In heaven’s purple and blue?

Just one more time, could we see your smile
Just one more time, flashing with life
you’re fully known where you are
your battle is done no more strife

Was your life struggle in vain
since it’s not anything you can now explain?

I guess we didn’t fully know you
But how could we since life’s a moment
Will we sit and talk in heaven’s purple blue
just one more time with you?
Will we?
There was a boy who died of the hanging game and my songwriting partner and I were honored to be allowed into his hospital room as he was dying.  We sang worship songs to Jesus and I watched the 17 year old boy dying and watched all the faces of those who love him.  It was a time that I will never forget.  We always have hope that we will see him again.

Not Here
She stands in her garden watching daffodils dance in the breeze
Her own hopeful waters sail in a boat where prayers reach her knees
Her mind only clear when her garden is near

Visions of somewhere, anywhere, but here

What’s that river running fast through the veins
Where’s that place where the mind can remain
free and clear
Where the mind can be clear

She never threw dirt on his grave, gave him a stone watching green fields
His own hopeful open space, freedom to die from a living too real
His mind only clear when no one was near

Visions of somewhere, anywhere, but here

What’s that river running fast through the veins
Where’s that place where the mind can remain
free and clear
Where the mind can be clear

Visions of somewhere, anywhere, but here
Since I'm a songwriter, many of my poems have that flavor of "hey, that could be a song.."  This poemsong is about people I know who live their lives to be somewhere else.
The bustle,
The bristle,
Many jeans, blue sky

The Taxis,
Yellow seams
Knitting
The city inside

A memory,
A vision,
Of a faraway land

Here now,
Feeling strongly
As death in a hand

A corner
Of horror
Cries from the tomb

I heard
Her say
Babies died in wombs

Chaos, heroes
Intimate revulsion
Try
Try again
No anger, but sinking emotion

The demons
All saints
Battled till the death

This place
Hallowed yard
Did we meet the test?

No laughter
no matter
We're still seeking the lost

Their faces
Etched smiles
Remain hanging on the cross

The weight
Our burden?
Who’s allowed to carry it now?

Closed eyes
Tears sting
I approach the grave
And
bow.
I travelled to NYC 10 years after September 11 terrorists attack on my homeland.  I felt the graves, I felt the wounds, I felt a sacred place of anguish.  I had to write.
