Window of
opportunity
stayed shut
minute by minute
waited, wanted
but class finished
and I watched
the elegant curve of
her back
disappear
through the door
the soft pad of her
footsteps
contrasting
with the resounding
thud of my
heart

I'm no one's
picture perfect
I'm not a favorite
day dream
nobody is wondering
does he love me?
I hardly fit in a
frame
and I'm never on my
A game
I'd call it a shame
if it wasn't my
whole
life

I traded my home town
For a city who never met me

Found out "the past"
Isn't a place you can escape
It's a state of mind
You could leave it all
Behind,
Get up
And just drive
But the parts that
Are left in your head
Are the parts that will survive
And they will dance around your bed
Until your thoughts are dead

I wake up some mornings
And all I want to do is vanish
Into my sheets
So I sleep
And I sleep
And I sleep
For as long as I can
But I guess
There is just no amount of rest
That can cure you from feeling
Tired of your life

tomorrow morning
work will be
pistol shots to my
head
but tonight I'll be more
alive
with all the
living dead

Wrenderlust
Sleep visits me again, a man
in a grey overcoat, smiling, beckoning.
It's easier than you think, he tells me
just like they say, counting sheep
and stars. There are somnambulists
and the creak of bedsprings, some nights
silence, but more often the clock ticks back
and forth. I sit beside the bed
with its sagging dust ruffle and watch over
the sleep of the living. It's funny,
he says, stifling the lamplight,
especially when they talk, and when they dream.
Imitation of "Death Comes to Me Again, A Girl" by Dorianne Laux.

I watched cars sail under bridges
and smiles fade in the distance
Graffitied buildings begging
questions like, why is it so
hard to make it out of the house
without having a panic attack?
Three hours from Philly to Scranton
Just three long hours with you
on my mind and I can hardly breathe
because the world looks so big
through wide windows
Tall trees and deep lakes
all around me, but stretches
of ugly highway are all I see
There's so much to love,
so much for me but I
can't seem to change my mind
I can't seem to leave your name behind
