castles made of sand
stand along the oceans shore
till the tide comes in
Haiku
Pure gobbledygook
Joe public bedazzling
Politician grade
The best that money can buy
Becomes void post election
Tanka
I put a pillow
Over my head late last night
Party on neighbours!
Haiku
underneath the stars
by the ocean on the sand
I will build a fire
then at midnight I will smile
and raise my glass in a toast
wishing a happy new year
to one and to all
Choka
Easy to destroy
Hard to build and to improve
I choose the latter
Haiku
we live day to day
and it can be a burden
if we let it be
Senryu
beside the fireplace
all coloured lights, tinted wreaths
and bright glass baubles
its base wrapped in green paper
its top a big silver star
and one little boy kneeling
watching the bubble lights glow
lost in the magic
Choka
bonfire after dark
clouds of orange sparks burst up
silhouettes tending
Haiku
I want to be clear
Crystal clear if possible
Because I love you
Haiku
Such a clever man
He was full of eloquence
And goobledegook
you are so clever
erudite and eloquent
and i applaud you
but i find it surprising
that one with so much talent
would be so needy
Choka
Your face in my hands
i look deep into your eyes
and kiss away tears
Senryu
your eyes are open
but your broken heart is closed
for renovations
Senryu
When I was a boy
Visiting my Grandfather
Foghorns filled my dreams
a wee golden doggie
came to me its tail all waggie
and bit me there and then
that blasted teenie meanie
Dogs normally love me, but this little cocker spaniel seemed very friendly till it got close enough to strike! Only time I have ever been bitten by a dog.
Bright torn horizon
Silver and dark clouds converging
Some stretched, some piled high
Racing hard across the straits
To snow deep the waiting tors
i saw a strange sight
at the bus station last night
an old white ten speed blender
waiting in line for the bus
sitting there on the pavement
it seemed passive and patient
in that mad rush-hour lineup
and it was the only one
that remained unplugged
Choka
True story
Cold, frosty morning
Winter coats and heavy boots
one madman in shorts
sometimes it is hard
to know where you are going
let love show the way
Haiku
Cosmologists ask
Is the Universe concious?
Why yes! You and me!
And of conciousness
I mean not cold intellect
But cosmologic
Sweet boson and fermion
Star crossed lovers in the night
Tanka
Macho con macha
You happily confuse it
But it has not changed
Haiku
oh america
what have they done to your soul
these liars and frauds
Senryu
not a tinkers dam
do i care about your style
it's content for me
Senryu
coyote eyeing me
standing near a stop sign
mangy, calm and cool
Haiku
I welcome you in
With the respect you are due
And listen to you
Without judgement or critique
I hear your concerns
And strive to understand them
I share my concerns
With honesty and respect
Acting together
We will find the solutions
To face the future
With unobstructed conviction
And uncondional love
Choka
consumed with desire
i toss and turn all night
you make me crazy
Senryu
swift black acrobats
swoop and wheel the cobalt sky
sunlight fills the beach
Haiku
sailboats at anchor
rocking slowly to and thro
small dogs barking high
frisking down the seawall
passing nannies and strollers
till i chase them back again
ringing my bicycle's bell
swooping around the corner
laughing in the wind
Choka
Like the wild, wild geese
Rising high over my head
In soaring chevrons
Loudly calling as they fly
I, love to cruise with my friends
Tanka
Behind this poem is my love of bicycle riding with my motley crew on my 1924 camel's back single speed. Yup, lots of hills where I live, but it is amazing how easy they can be on a well oiled single speed.
Cry
Cry
crying is painful
but holding it in is worse
let it flow my love
Senryu
Cut
Cut
you cut me deeply
with your dishonest love
now i'm bleeding out
Senryu
a spider crab flows
its long legged dance across kelp
all rippled brown green
Haiku
bright, clear, dark brown eyes
looking deeply into mine
a smile grows within
her free and warm acceptance
touching, comforting me
gently inviting
Choka
death is so sweet
that sooner or later your
your teeth fall out
Senryu
every set - back
is an opportunity
seize it and grow
Senryu
glad he was
sad he is no longer
goodbye stardust
Senryu
as the nightime ends
the sea of light washes in
with waves of colour
Haiku
Our Lady the Sun
A beauty  in shining robes
Casts morning's first light
Far across the pale slate sky
A little rooster crows back
somewhere within
ideoglyphs sail my minds
prevailing wind
Senryu
crows flying to roost
blue heron in silhouette
riverside sunset
Haiku
When my last thoughts fall
Like coins through Charon's digits
Who will hear them ring
balanced on an edge
a Humpty Dumpty moment
with no safety net
Senryu
With words of anger
Like a rope around my neck
You would drag me down
Into your sea of nightmares
But you cannot drown my heart
Tanka
you are like a dam
holding back an ocean
of compromises
and someday you will burst
flooding your little world
drowning all of your dreams
leaving just a ruin
of what might of been
Choka
pale blue kimono
all birds and cherry blossoms
that spills down your curves
and falls open as you glide
gifting me the briefest glimpse
of sweet paradise
Choka
in spring i inhale
and float away through summer
autumn i exhale
and sink back down through winter
a seasonal procession
a cyclic pranayama
my annual kundalini
it fills me with the desire
to live and to love
Choka
he was dilgent
in painting his sugar pills
with a bitter coat
Senryu
at first a few drops
becomes a raging torrent
bursting from my eyes
Senryu
In miniskirt she
Dances, streaked hair and all that
but oh, she is old!
