You don’t say a word,
You don’t even make a sound.
You sit unmoving, completely still.
Eyes fixed on something, anything but their eyes.
Don’t say a word, don’t make a sound
You sit and listen,
Listen to their nagging and complaints and dissatisfaction.
The same ones you hear all the time.
Because no matter how hard you try, you never reach their expectations.
Don’t say a word, don’t make a sound,
As the numb feeling sinks in,
You’re screaming on the inside.
Picking at your dinner plate,
Expertly moving food around to appear as if you’ve eaten more.
Don’t say a word, don’t make a sound
As the silent tears fall down your face,
Each salty drop rolling down your cheek and falling into the unknown.
You sit in bed, starring at the wall
The only audible sounds are your shallow breathing,
Nobody can know, nobody should suspect that anything is wrong.
Don’t say a word, don’t make a sound.
You lay in bed, Wondering the possibilities of a better tomorrow.
Begging for sleep to come,
to pull you away into the darkness.
Don’t say a word, don’t make a sound
You wake and put a smile on your face,
counting down the minutes, the seconds,
waiting for the cycle to repeat its self,
the days, the hours the minutes.
You wait, you sit unmoving,
Completely still.
You don’t say a word,
You don’t even make a sound.
