I was born in a leap year,
I mean, that's not a bad thing,
Could have been worse, my dear,
Like a venomous wasp sting;

But as I've come into being,
February twenty-nines marked fear,
Come to expect some terrible happening,
Something to scratch the world's ear;

The calamities following leap years,
Are far more bizarre, horribly so,
For there's a multiplying of tears,
Reaping four times the evils we sow;

I lost my dear father in a leap year,
Failed high school and had to repeat,
My own mentor drowned my hopes beyond repair,
And my beloved girlfriend broke my heart in a beat;

Suddenly, from the far East,
And spreading through the West,
Rises a deadly and unseen beast,
Eating up the elderly and infecting the rest;

It's a few months in,
Tragedies recorded are alarming,
The future is amply frightening,
Yet 'tis mere introduction to horrors we have seen.
The year 2020 will go up in history as quite a horrific one. A pandemic and some greed, all mixed together to unleash wickedness on humanity.

But why have they turned out this way?
Wrapped in hypocrisy and utter mendaciousness,
Leading a life of ruin,
Encouraging self-destruction;

General perception does not help, at all,
Painted, everyone, with one lousy brush,
Deep seated dislike, spit on their nationality,
Unwelcome by many, persecuted by more;

Still they go around bearing arrogance,
Like the world owes them entitlement,
Sometime tangible, because they are,
Never bothered by what people think.
That country called Nigeria reminds me of America and Britain in the days of yore, lawlessness is the order of the day and crass looting of the treasury the mainstay of the ruling elite. SAD.

You wonder aimlessly,
In the forest of pain and loneliness,
Scratched, pricked and pierced mercilessly,
****** tears, making, an aching mess.
Dada Olowo Eyo Dec 2014
Every cell bursting with joy,
These feet can not stop dancing,
Did not get one toy,
But will not stop singing.
Dada Olowo Eyo Nov 2019
I'm gonna remain like this,
Rooted in this magic space,
Life has happened, once more,
A total gift wrapped in sweetness.
Welcome, son.
Dada Olowo Eyo Jul 2019
If we actually did stand,
Every time we felt like taking a seat,
We would have saved time otherwise,
Spent on benevolent knees.
Dada Olowo Eyo Jun 2014
Between the ears, between the legs,
Therein lies the ultimate tradeoff,
Follow your heart or the magic stuff,
One or the other, the question begs.
Dada Olowo Eyo Sep 2019
Call her by her words,
Thorns that pricked my confidence,
Every collection of letters uttered,
Scraped anything that made me somebody.
Dada Olowo Eyo Nov 2019
Can't take it all in!
Too enormous to handle,
If you must ram your bundle,
Then slide the **** thing!
Dada Olowo Eyo Apr 2019
For some reasons,
Only known to them,
He would amount to nothing,
The lines wouldn't fall in pleasant places;

But the universe thought different,
The stars aligned perfectly,
And fortune smiled on him,
Then he shone,  brighter, than a billion diamonds.
Dada Olowo Eyo Aug 2019
The day begins as a dark thought,
Even the sun cannot burn through,
The hours bear down on the familiar hurt,
Ending in a cascade of pain truly blue.
Dada Olowo Eyo Apr 2019
Holding the bundle of joy,
Swaddled in my mother's wrapper,
Only one though came to mind,
Father of a daughter, me? Goodness!
I remember the first time that I held my daughter back in 2015. It was surreal, magical, dreamlike. I still look at her, today, tugging at my beards, pulling my ears and screaming, "Daaaaaaaaaddie, I want water!"  And think to myself that I actually do not deserve this honour.

*TIWATOPELODOOLUWA in Yoruba means, "We are thankful to God."
Dada Olowo Eyo Oct 2015
Like peas in a pod,
We have been matched by Almighty God,
To be in sweet love together,
And to hold fast, unto each other, forever.
This is the actual Toast to my wedding coming up on December 5 2015! Aye!!!
Dada Olowo Eyo Oct 2013
I put my trust in you,
Yes, you're human,
And I'm human, too,
Forever, sure we can.
Dada Olowo Eyo Apr 2019
Seated on very high places,
The untouchable ones,
Unseen by the blindfolded bearer,
Of delayed unequal decisions.
Dada Olowo Eyo Feb 2013
May not have given the tools,
Surely, they have made, no fool,
Turned out almost cool,
With common sense, from life schools
Dada Olowo Eyo Sep 2019
Shall we then leave behind,
The sins that brought us here,
For innocent hands to inherit,
And further a blood existence?
Dada Olowo Eyo Nov 2015
Behind you when the chips are down,
Pretenders to be your friend,
Reveal who they really are,
And stop acting like they truly care.
Dada Olowo Eyo Apr 2019
Foolishness galloping geometrically,
Uncommon sense nowhere near,
But the buffoonery of greed,
Towers all else astronomically.
Nigeria's population has crossed the 200 million mark in 2019! With 80 million children out of school, poorly educated or without of ever getting any kind of education...it is evident, even to the sightless, that only something more revolutionary than a miracle can forestall an impending doom. SAD.
Dada Olowo Eyo Mar 2019
The impotence of government,
Exposed on the night most needed,
They perch on trees to tweet untruths,
But cower behind powerful iron bars.
Dada Olowo Eyo Jul 2019
Broken pieces of self,
Dusty upon the lone shelf,
Alone in the dark corner
Covered in shame forever.
Dada Olowo Eyo Feb 2019
Looking at the heart wrenching image,
Moved my whole being to tears,
Laying lifeless, bloodied,
Entry wood to her temple;

The husband craddling her head,
Tearfully looking down,
At the love of his life,
Never again to cheer his home;

She left the home that morning,
To oversee elections,
To serve her fatherland,
To contribute her own quota;

But all she got,
Was a bullet to her head,
The robbing of her life,
Abrupt end to an unfolding story;

Two children have lost their mother,
Parents have lost their daughter,
Sibblings have lost their kin,
And a husband his confidant;

Would she like many others,
Be a little statistic,
Some unfortunate incident,
Lost to unending callousness?
A woman was killed while working as an electoral officer in one of Nigeria's bloodthirsty states in 2019 elections. She has left two children and a husband. What's next? SAD.
Dada Olowo Eyo Dec 2014
I have become unhappy,
Middle age and a bald head,
Every spark is now unamusing,
Like the sombre road I walk every night.
Dada Olowo Eyo Apr 2013
She did win the war,
With a single blow of peace,
She prayed all evil cease,
And with love, she did open the door.
Dada Olowo Eyo Jan 2020
Hey, what happened to you?
And what did I do?
Last time was... can't even remember,
So, are we lost... forever?
Dada Olowo Eyo Jul 2019
How we clearly see,
When the darkness draws near,
For the unknown spreads fear,
Of what the other side could be.
Dada Olowo Eyo Jul 2019
But here I am,
But why can't they see me?
But I'm as human as can be,
But this ain't fair, ****!
Dada Olowo Eyo Oct 2015
I be a genius in a bottle,
Lost at sea, bobbing in the scorchlight,
For a hundred years I await the right,
To put my mind on the throttle.
Dada Olowo Eyo Jan 2020
Dirt poor, low life lackey,
The son of nobody,
Gutter rat, poverty hugger,
Hardly a warm meal to eat;

But blessed by fate,
With power to stir minds,
Wielding instruments of revolution,
The gates of authority swing open;

Carried on the shoulder of the impoverished,
Feet washed in their blood,
Backed by their relentless hope,
And annointed by their faith;

Alas! Comrade turned traitor,
Refusing to yield the people's mandate,
Trampling on the same spirits,
That oiled your rise to prominence.
Many freedom fighters later become freedom killer's when they taste the perks of power and become drunk in its corruption.
Dada Olowo Eyo Oct 2018
The cancer continues to eat away,
But they continue to merry and pray,
The People of State continue in agony and pain,
But they love the irony for their gain.
The Nigeria system creates monsters that feed on the blood of the innocent; only for their nepotic and despotic rulers to turn around and hunt these unfortunate beings for sport. Sad.
Dada Olowo Eyo Jun 2021
She drifts atop the slimy waters,
Made bad by years of wickedness,
Clinging to flimsy rafters,
There is no escaping this watery wilderness.
The story of Nigeria is a sorry tale, and only misery loves its own company.
Dada Olowo Eyo Jun 2021
The arid plains are unforgiving,
Lost among the dunes,
Each direction is endless nothing,
But the shimmers keep playing ghostly tunes.
Nigeria is lost and nobody is genuinely trying to find her.
Dada Olowo Eyo Jun 2021
It is white as far as the eyes can take,
Crunchy underfoot, sometimes hip deep,
What wouldn't she give for a warm steak,
And warmer place to rest and sleep.
Nigeria encourages the poor on perilous journeys to untimely demise.
Dada Olowo Eyo Jun 2021
Every woody green is as the one before,
Going round in circles, roundabout,
She wanted to be the lead actor,
In a tale her character was written out.
Nigeria struggles with the demons that she let out herself.
Dada Olowo Eyo Jul 2020
Born in this land,
Suffer in this land,
Die in this land,
Worst tragedy of all kind.
Nigeria. Shame.
Dada Olowo Eyo May 2013
The tears that rolled,
Down my face,
Gathered hot pace,
Because, my love, had been sold.
Dada Olowo Eyo Sep 2019
Better late than not,
The long, drawn night,
Full of agonising fright,
Will not be our continued lot.
Dada Olowo Eyo Jan 2020
Let's take some time to reflect on the ones we have lost in the outgone year(s),
For we'll never see them, again,
To morn them, deeply and without refrain,
For this much we owe them, and rivers of flowing tears;

But, then again, life is a turning wheel,
That continuously, must, keep on moving,
However we may presently feel,
The hustle, must indeed, keep on going;

And as we take on another 365,
Men, take a closer look at yourselves,
Everything depends on you being alive,
So, pick up your health cards from those dusty shelves;

Make it a duty to oil your hinges, men,
Run, cycle, and liven up your waists,
Drink water, eat healthy, but not past ten,
Once in while, lift 'em solid weights;

So, when all is said and done,
Brother, you've one life to live,
Don't wear out your bone,
Ev'r before it's your time to leave.
Yaweh keep us in his Mercy through Yeshua, amen.
Dada Olowo Eyo Dec 2013
Tarry, milady, a lifetime,
The moon is nigh full,
Indeed, I be a fool,
To love you without a dime.
Dada Olowo Eyo Feb 2013
The stars in your smile,
Travel the southern mile,
And whenever I get lost,
I look to your stellar trust.
Thanks Oluchi
Dada Olowo Eyo Feb 2013
Thoroughly enjoyed this piece
And when the world's in constant search for peace,
They do so with steely silver piece,
What kind then, actually, is this ******, restless peace?
Dada Olowo Eyo May 2019
An imp, an intelligent one,
A scholar, well beyond his time,
Both step forward, before,
Their queens turn everything into dust.
Dada Olowo Eyo Apr 2018
The story of the broom and the umbrella,
Has her children in fives and eights,
The difference is much the same,
A love encounter everybody hates.
The PDP and APC political parties of Nigeria Politics are infamous for delivering so much pain and hardship upon the citizens of that country.
Dada Olowo Eyo Apr 2018
On the road to see my sweetheart,
I stopped by a hedge of red roses,
And lingered for an eternity's moment,
To savour how true love should entrap a man's soul.
Dada Olowo Eyo Sep 2019
A lesson in tragedy, to understand comedy,
A lesson in calamity, to understand tranquility,
A lesson in hunger, to appreciate bumper,
A lesson from fire, to appreciate water.
Dada Olowo Eyo Apr 2016
Aye! Aye! The planted seed is anchored,
Joyful tiding from the mouth of babes,
For in nine, will come the bloom,
Heralded by two lines on a strip.
Fatherhood is such great feeling.
She told me on April 21, 2016; day prince died.
Dada Olowo Eyo Nov 2015
Love is not a chain,
To tie me down,
So set me free,
To love you as I please.
Dada Olowo Eyo Nov 2014
I doubt myself,
Many times unsure,
Would I make that impact,
Or be forgotten like I never came?
Dada Olowo Eyo Sep 2019
It wouldn't get to me,
Whatever they said or did,
All were in a bid,
To break my smile.
Dada Olowo Eyo Apr 2023
The quiet, it shouts at me,
Can't stand the noiseless ringing,
So I turn up the melody, higher,
Then, I'm at peace, with the loud calming.
