Words can do so many things that we'll never understand
A heartbeat won't make you come alive the way one word can
The pictures that they paint can take your breath away
Goodbyes that they whisper will make you want to stay
When they are laced in hatred and fight to make you cry
You find that rhyme within you and realize it was lies
That words would never hurt you, only sticks and stones
Well now you're a few years older and left with broken bones.
When sweet words are spoken from someone that you love
You feel cupid catch you and carry you above
When words are hard to come by because your tongue is tied
It always seems as though your missing an important part of life
When words are placed in music, your soul is pierced within
Whether it be happy, sad or tragic, your heart is singing till the end.
Words can do so many things, and I've only said a few
But put thought before your speech because the power starts with you.
Here is the sun.
And I am lost again in June,
Remembering how those fingers moved
To bend a note that might still resonate
On nights when sleep is hiding.
Shadow!
Dark and shining,
Lurking in the corners of this box.
Let go,
He'll slip away
If I take the long way home...
Oh, I'll just take the long way home.
There's a reason there's a path outside your door
that leads to a road
that leads to an interstate,
that leads to an airport.

And there's a reason that planes fly from that airport
to one near here.

Same reason that airport has a road
that leads to a highway
a highway that they are repairing as we speak
that leads to my town
to a path that leads to my door

And its not just coincidence.

Any more than its coincidence that you are reading this.

This society asks for me
to shame my history in disbelief.
And still hold the past
Close as I can,
So that no matter my freedom
I wont advance.

I walk a ground
that is claimed as owned
from my time of birth
Til the time I am grown.
How dare these men
Try and contain
souls of the Creator
As if they are game.

Yet many are obedient
Following the plan
With eyes hazy, may as well be closed
Satisfying that man
...whoever he is.
Distance.
Eight letters that stretch
the fifty miles
to you
and back.
I'll run.

A hundred texts,
a dozen phone calls,
a cluster of shared laughs,
can never replace
a welcome-home hug.
I'll run.

I dream about that day.
I'll see your smile
a hundred feet in front of me.
Time doesn't slow,
but speeds up until
we embrace.
I'll run.

Distance can eat the heart.
Leave lies in the soul.
Force us apart.
When that day comes...
I'll run.

I like you.
Or at least I like who I am when I'm with you.
When I look into your eyes,
I'm on a different planet.
I've always liked you...
Even before everyone else did.
I still do...
And I don't know if its worse if you know,
Or worse if you don't.
Funny how one action can change everything,
A perfect world becomes shattered,
A life becomes filled with tortured memories.
Always in constant wonder,
Whether if anything will come out of the destruction,
The rubble of the mess.
Nothing seems to come to mind,
No hope,
No love,
Just thoughts that tear you apart.
You want to cry out,
You want to run,
You want to shout,
But nothing seems to come out,
Just the emptiness of desolation.
As I look out my window and stare at this tree, it has
grown up strong and tall, it is kind to the world, it gives animals a home
and the wind a fresh scent, it protects me from the rain and carries the
burden of the snow. This tree, O how it has grown, I look up to it, but
it doesn't look down upon me. When i grow up I want to be just like this tree.

My false peace I’m emanating
I find myself closely equating
To your first time in acid rain
Refreshing then you learn the pain
A blurred division
between consciousness and reality,
this is where I dwell.
It is absolutely certain
that I've lost the line.
Someone has to pull me out.
The flames cascade across the floor
and eat me alive.
