Phoenix Rising
It's over before it begins,
that's my decision.
I got a heart
with fifty incisions.
Past lovers
look more like accidents.
I wake up next to an empty bottle
of grey goose or
whatever someone else chose
to lead the night.
I'm fuzzy and faded,
thirsty and jaded.

I see a world in decay
The wrong people stepped up to rise
We’re all just sheep adding to the flock
An I can see the human inside
An I can see the human through your eyes
But I ask where is the line drawn between you and I

I can Envision a paradise
Where everyone’s freed from a wicked mind
Where everyone is freed to truly be alive

But I can never grasp it
I fear that humans can only be defined
By the pain a suffering within and without their own lives

May just be that we’ve given up
And locked our selves away
In the illusion we call “Reality”

You must pardon me for what I say
It’s just the old soul inside
Finally fed up with seeing the world in decline

When I was younger I knew that the tendency would only grow stronger
And as I grow older I know I’ll only fall harder
As I get up I know I’ll be able to run farther
Before I reach my final  collapse
I ask again for forgiveness
this is just me
And my misanthropic tendency

My mind has gone
Blank once again

Beautiful thoughts
Of decay start to
Settle in

Surrounded by the light
Thought clouds
Trap me in the night

Smoke clouds
Swirl around me
To hold me tight

Keeping me safe
From……………

I aspired to draw a line in the sand
but I ended up carving a square.
It birthed a perimeter that wasn’t planned,
enclosing the emptiness of what was there.
If I could find the will to move my legs
I’d still plant my feet on either side,
but they’re dangling off each limb that drags,
dead weight bumping and bouncing along with the ride.

Stagnantly cushioning careless decisions
and finding loose lint among the remains,
stitching is falling behind the constant incisions
but surprised the pleasures match with the pains.
I’ll be going over, while falling under,
come run Red Rover, abstain or plunder.

I noticed the devolution of my skin,
in the irregular margins I jotted scribbled notes.
We could cut the cost with aluminum foil versus tin,
it could mimic barriers like our winter coats.

See my mouth refuse to further consume
my teeth are made solely to crunch numbers,
checking every inch within each room,
I can’t comprehend the routine this encumbers.
You supply the war
and I’ll supply the headlines.
We’ll follow the same pattern as before,
but now watch out for land mines

I poured the tears into stale water
and traced my hand upon the sun,
burnt fingertips but I thought it would be hotter,
and the brightness could blind if not stun.
Walk off the wounds from imagination
and get in the ring to face reality’s wrath,
I’ll take comfort in knowledge of my destination,
I never rerouted my destined path.
Breaking a block that was a brick.

I didn't want to,
disappoint you.

So I tried to,
reassure you.

But I can't make a reflection
feel emotions

I'm a fool who's rage is written on a page
Flickering with fire, fueled by a painful desire
Unruly and unjust it burns without control
Till its content with its remains of dark ash and coal
Seeking no shelter, though it must be contained
She screams as she cries trapped in a cage
Walls adoring her, only growing stronger with age
Dreading the knocking that echos so loud
Fumbling with the keys, throwing them to the ground
Huddling into one's self, as the world grows c o l d
Yearning for somebody who can allow her to be whole
As she kicks and she screams, pushing them away
It's difficult to get past this tremendous facade
That holds so well, ingrained into her being
Disregarding the world and others well-being
How heartless and cold
How selfish and bold
Pitiful you are
with that narcissist mask, you hold

Dance me another dance
Within that ballroom of yours
Filled with the most beautiful flowers
And those demons that taunt at all hours
Its cold deep within, even with fires set aflame
As she continues burning within her own stone-cold cage.

Here we are again,
Square one.

~
Setting fires within a castle that you build to protect your own
Burning all who dare to draw in to close
Though the knocking won't stop
