Didn’t the thought
Ever occur
That we always knew
Who they really were ?
A leopard doesn’t
Change it’s spots
Nor are its spots
Confused for dots

Didn’t we know
What they’d do
With hegemony
Over me and you?
Roe v Wade
Was the biggest clue
And now they’ve dropped
The other shoe

We voted for the conservative lot
So now we’ve got
What we’ve got
I’m asking you, have we not?
It’s much too late now
For getting hot
Or suggesting
It was all a gigantic plot

I believe women
Should have the right
Not to go gently
Into that bad night
Instead I believe
That they should fight
As opposed to simply
Being uptight

As I turn another page
To embrace advancing age
At times I am engaged
At other I’m outraged
For feeling so encaged
Or even unassuaged
And otherwise upstaged
By my advancing age

But I’m learning to be adept
At trying to accept
Sometimes being inept
And at others just outstepped
By a well-kept
Overriding precept
That’s not a defect
Of my intellect

So it makes perfect sense
That my experience
Might be quite intense
Not suggesting that I’m dense
In a figurative or literal sense
As part of life’s suspense
I’ve learned to carry on
So hence

You deal the hand
You’re dealt
On the conveyor belt
Despite the way
You’ve felt
While fastening your seatbelt
And you refuse to melt
Because of where you dwelt

Hate will consume us all
As one by one we fall
In a church,
School yard or mall
We are facing a brick wall
And it’s become a siren call
Of how hatred
Will envelop us all

Hate will bury us
And turn us all to dust
Like a scab with an oozing crust
Until we all go bust
As eventually we all must
If it’s in God we trust
Then what should be discussed
Is how we remain nonplussed

Hate will not denigrate
Underneath its own weight
So let’s not swallow the bait
That will ensure our fate
Becomes what we anticipate
Albeit too little too late
It’s such a heavy freight
And if you will, a checkmate

Hate is such a heavy load
That it will explode or implode
Ensconced in its abode
While still in hatred mode
As history has showed
When we go down that road
For all that it forebodes
The remaining episodes

Life  sometimes isn’t fair
But no one seem to give a care
So I want you to be aware,
“I didn’t do it, I wasn’t there.”
Despite what certain people have to say
I have an alibi, okay?
And the truth I hope will set me free
From the charges that you’re trying to pin on me’

It’s like I told you once before
I didn’t ****, either or
And so I’m innocent for sure
So must I tell you anymore?
I’m demonstrating I have patience
Against those spurious allegations
But even patience can wear thin
You’re still trying to put me in!

I’m dealing with the stress and strife
Of facing twenty years to life
Away from my children and my wife
And that can cut you like a knife
Especially when they seem hell-bent
In ensuring that they don’t relent

So I will probably go to jail
Without the benefit of bail
And even on appeal I’ll fail
To hit the hammer on the nail
So as they lock me away
Counting the seconds everyday
I have this to say
Life isn’t fair anyway!

Help me if you can
Try to understand
Man’s inhumanity to man
Is it part of nature’s plan?
That we demonstrate
Our innate hate
By trying to annihilate
Those of equal weight

Why do we wage war,
And try to even the score
Like we never did before?
Is hate at the core?
It’s a motivating factor
Or it’s main attractor?
Cos it’s for the birds
And I am lost for words

In a local supermarket
Innocents are the target
Their lives never the same
As a mad man takes his aim
While quenching his desire
For mayhem through gun fire
The situation’s long past dire
As people will expire

So I pontificate
While trying to contemplate
The end results of hate
All over our landscape
And then I weigh the cost
All be it at a loss
Because it isn’t right
In our Creator’s sight

Justice Clarence Thomas
You’re the one who you most hate
Could it be because you know
That you’re second rate?
Or is it because of
Your ultra conservative mate?
Who you so assiduously
Always try to placate?

Justice Clarence Thomas
Reconcile the fact you’re black
And way back in the day
You were a daddy mack
Until you met your wife Jenny
Cos opposites attract
And she’s all the white you need
As a matter of fact

Justice Clarence Thomas
At your dinner table
You and your best friend Jenny
Discuss all that you are able
So is it any wonder
That draft ruling slipped
After all my friend
Jenny had been tipped!

Justice Clarence Thomas
They say that justice is blind
But you continuously
Choose to cross the line
You insist on voting
When you should be recused
It doesn’t seem to bother you
When the law’s abused

Since you asked me how I feel
I’ma try to keep it real
It’s been a hell of an ordeal
Like a prisoner eating their last meal
I’m resigned to my hospital stay
Yet perhaps I’ll come home one day
Ya see I do believe
God will give me a reprieve

My weaken lungs show it
What they call long-haul Covid
Which before I realized
Caught me by complete surprise
Now I can’t avoid oxygen or steroids
Though each and everyday
I’m getting stronger the doctors say

And though it has been long
Ya see, I’m Boston strong
I can weather anything
The  universe may choose to bring
So interstitial lung disease
Can kiss my ***
This too I know will come to pass
The dye has yet to be cast

Let me continue to take my meds
And keep the faith as Adam Powell said
Ever thankful for my daily bread
While looking forward to what lies ahead
Cos’ only God knows
When my show will close
And this is my final reveal
Yes, it’s been quite an ordeal
