How Do I Know
Carolyn J Reilly Aug 2017
How do I know he loves me
Without him saying a word?
It's pretty simple really
To see the signs that can't be heard
When he starts to stir in the morning
And molds his body into mine
Then throws his arm around my waist
And snuggles me from behind
When he's getting ready to go to work
Just about to walk out the door
He never ever forgets a kiss
Then another, then just one more
When I'm walking into my work
And I hear my phone go beep
The text reads “I ******* love you **** ***”
Or something similar I couldn't repeat
When he does something that I like
That he really doesn't want to do
Like watching a really scary movie
Or walking round the shops for an hour or two
When he takes my side
Even though he knows I'm wrong
When he watches me singing
My favourite song
When he makes sure I eat
Because he knows I forget
When he brushes my tangles
While my hairs soaking wet
When he's waiting at the door
To help me in with my shopping
When he runs me a bath
Because he knows I'm close to dropping
When he gets in my car
Even though he hates its guts
When he encourages my creativity
Without thinking I'm nuts
When he lets my cat in and feeds him
When he sees his empty bowls
When he pushes me to write things down
Cause he wants me to reach my goals
When he goes along with all my plans
Because he likes to see me smile
When he stops whatever he's doing
Just to listen to me for a while

These are just some of the signs
That I see every day
And I know that the next 25 years
Will be perfect in every way

Lovely To See You
Carolyn J Reilly Apr 2012
You come to me
In the dead of night
While I’m sound asleep
It’s lovely to see you
Even though it’s surreal
More memories to keep

After you’ve been
The things that you said
Stay with me all day
I wish when I woke
You were still there
And hadn’t gone away

It’s not just you
Who visits my dreams
There are lots of others to
But none of those mean
As much to me
As my visits from you do

Fairy Dust
Carolyn J Reilly Jan 2012
Fairy wings
So soft and light
You can barely see them
When she takes flight
Perfect features
Big blue eyes
She flutters her eyelids
As she takes to the skies
Perfect smile
Teeth shiny white
When she opens her mouth
She lights up the night
Fairy dust
Sprinkled around
Watch as it falls
And lands on the ground
If you are lucky
And some lands on you
Close your eyes, make a wish
And your wish will come true

The Tips Of My Toes
Carolyn J Reilly Jan 2012
I push myself up
With the tips of my toes
Through the air, to the clouds
Wayheyhey here I go
I have no propeller
No jetpack, no wings
Who need them when dreams
Are such wondrous things
There’s nothing can stop me
From flying away
I don’t want to come down
So up here I will stay
It’s peaceful and warm
Way up here in the sky
There is nothing quite like
Being able to fly
I hover about
At the tops of the trees
Then I soar to the stars
Just by bending my knees
I travel so fast
Over cities and towns
When I see somewhere nice
I float gently down
I’ll have an ice-cream
And I’ll rest for a while
When it’s time to go home
I set off with a smile
I push myself up
With the tips of my toes
Through the air, back to bed
Wayheyhey, here I go

Long Gone
Carolyn J Reilly Jan 2012
By the time you read this
I’ll be long gone
My bags are all packed
Time for me to move on
I know this will hurt you
It’s hurting me too
We both know deep down
It’s the best thing to do
It’s the best thing for you
And the best thing for me
And it’s best for our children
It’s quite clear to see
I can stay here no longer
In this house I call home
You know things aren’t right
I’m better off on my own
Don’t take this too hard
Please get on with your life
I’m so very sorry
I’m no longer your wife

Death Row
Carolyn J Reilly Jan 2012
I stand here in this concrete square
With wire mesh all around
I’m just a lonely puppy dog
Who’s stuck here in the pound

I don’t know what I ever did
That my humans thought so wrong
I’ve always been a good girl
I’ve been stuck in here so long

People come and look at me
They pause then walk on by
Every time they walk away
It makes me want to cry

I only have two more days
To find my forever home
If no one comes to save me
I will die here all alone

I promise to behave myself
To be loyal, faithful and true
I’ll never ever let you down
I’m the perfect dog for you

The Staffy Curse
Carolyn J Reilly Jan 2012
It is not me
I am not bad
These misconceptions
Make me mad

The media frenzy
Blame the breed
The Staffy curse
Is sad to read

They don’t report
The positive things
The love we give
The joy we bring

We might be strong
And made of muscles
But we love our hugs
And playful tussles

We are devoted
With massive hearts
We run away form
Our smelly farts

If you know
A Staffy well
You’ll understand
My need to tell

We are not monsters
We are not evil
We are not savage
Or dogs of the devil

We are quite simply
Man’s best friend
Loyal and true
Right till the end
