Funny how we woke up in the morning
and pretended that tomorrow never happened—
strutted naked in mirrors celebrating our youth,
laughing, knowing suns and moons couldn’t do the same.

We borrowed our arms from the fridge
and peddled bicycles with bad breath—
trading war stories ‘cause we knew
if we came back alive
life would still be the death of us.

My earlobes are stretched
so the words the world yells
go right through.
Each size increase
hurts just the right amount,
pain is weakness that
acrylic slowly helps me lose.
But the skin heals
without fail,
filling in micro tears.
As long as they have enough time
they get better.

I am just like my
ears.

He asked me what it's like to be "a double digit"
And I couldn't think of much to say
Except, hey kid, when you get invited to your first house party
Please remember to slip outside, unnoticed
Follow footsteps to the thoughtful loner at the end of the yard
Inhaling smoke and staring into the sky
Escaping the mindless chaos behind the walls
Just thinking quietly to himself
Step beside him & wait for him to speak
That's how you make the sweetest friends

It always starts in friendship,

but

sometimes it also ends in there,
nothing more.

Guilt speaks desperately and the infinite stream of sanity
slowly crashes into a burst of sudden echoes
The promising canvas of life hangs twisted and the wandering nightmares,
gather unseen
The illusion allows ignorance to act freely and agony laughs
at those memories
Depression trails behind treasure and destroyed hopes surrender,
to tragedy
Desperation and temptation make way for distorted possibilities

I have a crush-no wait it's a liking

I do not know him in reality
Only through his writing

He seems to know his way with words
Which makes me wonder about his love
notes that must flow with admiration towards the girl he chases

An unimaginable distance separates us
Not only in miles but in understanding

He might be a lovely poet
But his lack of comprehension makes me worry

I have made a fool out of myself
In talking to him I have missed the obvious

His thoughts are written mysteriously and beautifully
But in his mind, I do not exist
Oh god, most days I wonder why I even wrote this.

Blue veins and Marlboro lips.
I've got open wounds from my wrists to my hips.
And we've got some left over whiskey so we're just taking sips.
Doing everything in our power not to sink these ships.

He lowered his head toward the steering wheel
And I fell silent just to let him feel.
We watched the kids we grew up with bleed from their noses.
Disappearing with their friends' prescriptions and hanging from nooses.
But he took the deepest cut and came out swinging with the least bruises.
Those dreams of pulling a trigger under your tongue haven't made you useless.
Because the longer you stand in the dark, the brighter the sun is when it diffuses.
