An exhilarated cry in my ear
With your head tossed back
And your hair falling away from your eyes
A soft, teasing snicker in the room
While I smile and shake my head
At your stupid little antics
A laugh. Your laugh.
It flows from your mouth
Like the wind weaving through the trees
I hear it every other day now,
Your laugh.
I'm glad to know that you still find me funny
After all the time we were apart
While you were gone
I'd missed the sound of
Your laugh.
It no longer symbolizes the pain I felt
When you had gone away
And now that you're back
I hope you'll never leave again
Your laugh.
Is all I want to hear
I'm pushing aside the memories
Regaining hope
Reconnecting with you
While you just laugh with me.

An amused chuckle in my ear
With soft, warm breath brushing
Ever so gently past my neck
A wild, carefree guffaw in the field
While I smile and roll my eyes
At your stupid little jokes
A laugh. Your laugh.
Pure happiness in the form of a
Loud, goofy giggle
It plays over and over in my mind
Your laugh.
It whisks me away
Takes me back
Back to when we had something
To before you were nothing but
Your laugh.
Echoing in my mind
Resurfacing the painful memories
Up from the graves I buried them in
The flashbacks, they consume me
Your laugh.
Is all I can hear
I'm drowning in our memories
Missing us desperately
Going through hell without you
While you just laugh at me.

I built a glass case around my heart
So another hooligan wouldn't come along and soil it like you did
You stroked it with your greasy fingertips, leaving a sloppy mark and
Departing the museum, never to return
Because the art wasn't to your taste
Even though you left, your blotch remains
Because I risk damage to the artwork by trying to wipe it off

Ever since you defaced my heart
Nobody has come around to check it out
Having art on display seems pointless when there's no one to admire it
But the "look, don't touch" message the glass case implies
Seems to scare away anyone interested
Still, it gets lonely having no one to touch my heart
Other than the glass walls of this solitary display case

antivenoms Mar 2014
A forest fire is reckless and wild
Scorching anything and everything in its path without a thought
Wreaking havoc on the helpless trees
Melting the foliage to ashes
Choking them with the smoke of their own self destruction
As they watch themselves burn
Then vanishing into nothingness
Leaving the woods charred and broken
Branded with the blackness of the flame's presence-
A signature left behind to claim the wreckage
And proudly display it as the flame's handiwork.

I am the woodland, and you are the inferno.
