For the Disney print princess
who knows what she's about,
who finds fascinating worlds within dust cover jackets,
who sends smiles in parenthesis; lost love brackets
over classroom mid-drifts,
a bare silence interrupted by pure kindness;
for who walks in noise behind inaudible
commuters from this station to that station
all the way home and back out again on her family vacation,
who can match and pair t-shirts and jeans with
bowler hat crowns from the palace of queens,
who, for all we know, could eat with elbows on tables
and read not prose, but short fiction fables,
who wouldn’t hold doors open or say thank you
to bus men and their drivers,
who might smoke away her pay
with great plumes almost every day,

who might not be the girl I thought she was.

My heart
skips
a beat
and my
fingertips
tingle
but my lips
manage
to whisper
"Do you want
to try again?"
With pleading eyes
I watch
your head spin,
while Love
and Logic dance.
Moments pass
without a sound,
but your wide eyes
answer my plea.
And just like that,
I can breathe.
Originally, this was written in past tense, but I felt it was more powerful in present. :-) Recent inspiration has put me in a writing mood again. (Yay!)
Let me know what you think!!
i hate that horrible feeling
when you catch something
but not quite
and you know
its just going to slip
through your fingers
and

hit the ground

and there's nothing
you can do
to catch it properly
as it clunks
and hits the floor
there's no changing
how it happened

you just didn't
grasp it
good enough

blankpoems
"Stay the hell away from here!" he screamed at you
He was pointing to his chest
You asked him if he meant his lungs and he shook his head
He meant his heart

He's a poem you can never end
The lines flow nicely in the beginning and the middle
But once you get to the bottom of your page, you reread the last line
And curse yourself for typing it on a typewriter because there is
no turning back

He's a storm you watch from the window but never go out and stand in
The puddles beckon you to stomp in them but You shake your head this time,
You're not twelve anymore
You don't play in the rain

He's your worst nightmare incarnated
He's a fever dream, the worst kind
He's the best thing to ever happen to you
But it scares you so much you paint it dark blue and call it sinister

"Stay away from here" you finally say back
You've got ******* aimed at your temple like a gun
He asked you if you meant your mind
You meant your heart
And a woman who held a babe against her ***** said, "Speak to us of
Children."

And he said:

Your children are not your children.

They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.

They come through you but not from you,

And though they are with you, yet they belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts.

For they have their own thoughts.

You may house their bodies but not their souls,

For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit,
not even in your dreams.

You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.

For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.

You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.

The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you
with His might that His arrows may go swift and far.

Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness;

For even as he loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that
is stable.

You say that you're a Democrat
There must be something wrong with that
Have you done gone and lost your mind

You say that you're Republican
Fat and angry twice as dumb
Ain't that what all Republican's are like

Why can't we all just get along
Holding hands singing Kumbaya
Ain't that what it is Americans do

Instead of arguing all the time
Over who is wrong and who is right
Telling each other to go get *******

I think we all just need to see
Who's our friend and who's our enemy
Instead of fighting amongst ourselves

If we all would take the time
I'll kiss your rear if you kiss mine
We'd have that part settled if nothing else

Still Democrat, believe you need
To get yourself a lobotomy
Then you would at least have half a brain

And Republican get yourself a heart
Then perhaps you might just start
To be somewhat loving and semi-kind
All in jest...
Who needs a hug?
