you were more
Snehal Bhadani Mar 2019
you were more
than the mayhem of letters
displaced in a word
that slipped and rode
from syllable to syllable
on the tip of my tongue.

you were more
than the amorphous utterance
I blurted at midmorning
in the futile hope
that you would notice
how much I meant it.

you were more
than a singer could sing
or a painter could paint
the lucid core
of my labyrinthine feelings
escaping my tangled words.

you were more
than every scrawled page in my diary
than the path to my heart
or the strength of my soul
than the cosmos and the stars
my universe in a person
you were my poetry:

and that is more than anyone can ever be.
I don't know how this poem came to be. I don't usually write poems that don't rhyme nor do I ever type poems in the process of writing them. I always prefer to scrawl out my thoughts on papaer and give them shape. But I randomly started typing on my mac one day and ended up with this. I didn't know what to do with it so I just signed up for a poetry website my friend recommended and whew here it is :)

a stranger so dear
Snehal Bhadani Aug 2019
the person sitting next to me
is one I have not seen before
yet something tells me he is mine
a knock of intuition on my door:

my soul knows his soul all through
though I may not know his name
my heart was his the second I saw
when he from the shadows came-

like a ray of light, a ray of hope
and he absorbed my darkness all
ended all my woes and despair
and that was when my heart gave a call-

a call to me, a call to him
a signal from within that he was mine
our eyes met only today
my heart knows him from a longer time.

In the wee hours of the darkest night,
A sole ray lit up the dying town
The people slept on, uncaring, ignorant
A child awoke and without a sound

Crept to the windowsill and watched,
Watched and he saw divinity unfold
While the town slept he stood in awe
Of the Godly glow, and black turned gold

Under his eyes. He spectated a brilliant scene
He witnessed the whole town being blessed
Perceptible by all but by all unseen
Only to his curious eye revealed.

Seek this glory, you too are blessed
His benevolence, it has eternally been there
Wake your spirit, wake your soul,
Do not remain asleep in despair.
