lonesome
as an island with
waves that roars but no one listens

a legion of people
in a downtown intersection
but I stay afloat in desolation

in the midst of a city hustle
I reclused to move

I defeated myself
and surrendered with the action

I live in a jungle of solitary
like a hermit dancing on the ocean floor

They call me Alfred Prufrock
but this is not a love song.
Oh, halt! he wasn’t writing a love song.

one day spring came
and snow wiped out
the whole city in just one day

‘I hate this weather’
I told myself
the next day the sun came
with a winter air
that made the people
bundled up in three layers

‘Oh well. Welcome to Canada’
I shaked my head
as the rain drizzled
making a splash to my parka

The weather report says
next week will be a sunny day

I sang a hum of happy tune
while everyone talked about how the
climate ruined their day.

No one stays long
in the house of the bereaved

The hounds are lonely tonight
but not the priest

I dream I am still
in Tennessee grieving

Drinking moonshine
and branch water
looking for a fight

The undertaker creeps out
of the farmer's daughter's room

His wife beats a spider
with a broom then sweeps

When Death beats his child
nobody listens to her weep

My mother used to beg,
Son, don't write about Death,
We'll cross that ditch soon enough

I have nothing but respect
for the dead, I said

But there is no doubt in my mind
Death is a bad dog, a real *****.

The tip of this pen
where the ink drips
has been sketching words
of your face,
the smile, the soft touch of your hand,
the words you whispered
that made my day

also the drip made a mess
when I sat frozen
trying not to draw
the tears you gave
and the promises that never came

but I finished a masterpiece.

The word that twirls a lady in
a windy moors
with daffodils watching her from afar
moving their bodies to the velocity and rhythm

Words, words, words,
the flowers took a glance of a
pummeled heart
the next day where clouds gloom
pouring anger to a lonely life
the lady lay on a bed of grass
waiting for the rain to melt
her raging heart

Little daisies whisper
as the lady found a shade
and sat looking at a tranquil sky
She waited and waited
until the night came to cover the dismal eyes

Every day the flowers
await for the beam of sunlight
and the soft touch of the wind
who used to play with the
lady in the moors

She disappeared without a trace

One day, she came back with
a discreet smile
walking with grace
on her way to paradise
she planted a sunflower
under the sunlight

she looked up and blinded by the glint
the flowers giggled
and started dancing again.

men wept in the drought of dark chasm
queue to damnation
the irresponsibility of the authority
in the trades of recession
selling apples a day
kept the people away
sailing across the Atlantic
trying to find ways
entering a new land,
portals don’t welcome new immigrants

He should have stayed in Brooklyn
but what was the difference
slums of Limerick
Hoovervilles or shantytowns

There were no jobs
million voiceless throng
hidden in the record
There must be crime

Starvation and disease
lack of medical facility
yet alcoholism
and wiping shillings
was famous in the pub

Future, pay heed
to the dark horrors
of the past
that brought light
to this present
the flag of history stays with the present. It has always been here and it is important to wave them in significance in remembering what we have today.

winter’s mourn created
a white crystal blown by the
northern wind

dismal sky under a blanket of snow
along with empty trees hybernating,
patiently waiting for spring

mother rabbit hopped
back inside the log
to hug her babies

A group of deer
scavenging on the white field
paused and looked up

There were silence
only the buzz of wind.

Even the owl peeked
but then again closed
his heavy eyelids

A gleam of parhelion
dominated winter’s despair

In that moment,
apricity showered a feast of bliss
