The end of war
A Thomas Hawkins Jun 2010
The spot where he has fallen,
will soon be reclaimed land,
while policy decisions,
carve up this ever shifting sand.

And so it always has been,
current friends we met in war,
as the ebb and flow of policy,
made us enemies before.

So is there anything worth dying for?
If a truce is all it takes,
to end this ****** conflict,
sign one now for all our sakes!

For him that peace has come too late,
for he died there with The Corp.
He's one of the few amongst us,
that has seen the end of war.

Just once
A Thomas Hawkins Jun 2010
to kiss your neck with these here lips
just once
to place my hands upon your hips
just once

to draw your body close to mine
our legs and spirits intertwine
to take you and make love to you
just once

to wake one morning on your arms
just once
to be sedu-ced by your charms
just once

To lie and watch you get undressed
to feel your hands upon my chest
to see into your very soul
as our two halves become a whole
just once

throwing caution to wind
just once
sinning like we've never sinned
just once

A passionate intensity
that gets the best of you and me
and lets us be all we can be
just once

My plea
A Thomas Hawkins Jun 2010
They that life is just too short,
and I'm inclined to agree.
So why are we still waiting,
for you to come and live with me.

I know that you mean more to me,
than anything alive.
And each day I wake up waiting,
for my lover to arrive.

So what is it that holds you back?
Are there doubts you cannot share?
Is there something I don't know about,
that keeps you living there?

Are you unsure of your feelings?
Or the ones inside of me?
If so I could always whisper them,
from down upon one knee.

I want so much to be with you,
from now til I leave this life,
that I find myself in dreams,
wishing you would be my wife.

Whatever doubts you hold inside,
please listen to your heart,
and let us start our life together,
no more nights spent apart.

The pain of not knowing
A Thomas Hawkins Jun 2010
If I may ask you honestly,
could you answer to me true?
Could you tell me without doubt,
just what I am to you?

Am I just another friend,
nothing less and nothing more?
Or am I someone you could see,
knocking at your door?

Would we meet for coffee and a chat,
then go our separate ways,
or would we picnic in the park,
and dream away our days?

Do think of me when I'm not there,
the way I think of you?
Or do I never cross your mind,
you've got better things to do.

I wish that I knew all these things,
and then knew what to do.
Right now I'm caught within the web,
of dreams that lead to you..

So just tell me should I struggle,
break free and then move on,
or will you come to rescue me,
now you know where I'm coming from?

A natural fear
A Thomas Hawkins Jun 2010
I cannot make you love me
though there's nothing I want more
And I'm scared my hearts gonna end up
lying bleeding on the floor

You see there's much I have to say
so much I want for you to know
but to lay my very soul out...
is that somewhere I want to go?

And perhaps that fear of exposure
should be sign enough itself
that we're not on the same page
or even sharing the same shelf

So tell me now, what should I do
should I speak up or hold my tongue
is it better to have lost in love
than never been undone

Travelers return
A Thomas Hawkins Jun 2010
Weeping willow weep not for me,
for my time is nearly done.
I'm just a weary traveler,
seeking shelter from the sun.

I'm on my final pilgrimage,
the one that takes me home,
to a place thats not too far from here,
from where I used to roam.

My travels took me round the world,
cross countries near and far.
Walked each day in golden sunlight,
slept under nights as black as tar.

But to my home I now return,
at the ending of my days,
for on my beloved England,
I shall rest my final gaze.

A Thomas Hawkins Jun 2010
Will our money keep us warm
when we no longer see the sun
Will our money keep us full
when all the fish have gone

Will our money quench our thirst
when our water is all spoiled
It's more convenient to **** ourselves
when once we would have toiled

We want everything now or yesterday
and always for a penny less
But the price will be paid in other ways
it's a truth we must confess

Baggage
A Thomas Hawkins Jun 2010
It's time to put the baggage down,
I've carried all these years.
The broken dreams and promises,
that caused so many tears.

For years now I blamed myself,
like I somehow was the cause,
and you let me go thinking that,
without so much as a pause.

And like a dozen bags of groceries,
I carried it around,
without ever even thinking,
I could just put them on the ground.

The handles cut into my fingers,
sometimes a bag would split,
and the contents would come spilling out,
and send me to that pit.

The one where daylight does not reach,
the one filled with despair,
to wallow in my misery,
too tired to even care.

But a wise man told me yesterday,
that baggage is just that.
Something you can put down,
and leave upon the mat.

It does no good to carry on,
with burdens and self blame.
Those with destinys to care for you,
will do so just the same.

So check your baggage at the door.
Leave your pack upon the ground,
and feel free to leave it here,
amongst heartaches lost and found.

Lucky in cards...
A Thomas Hawkins Jun 2010
So here I am again
left staring into space
I played the jack of hearts again
and got ******* by an ace

I thought the hand a little shaky
still I played it anyway
they say feint heart ne'r won fair maiden
but just who the hell are "they"

So I think I'll give up playing
forever end my losing streak
I don't think I have the heart left
too many beatings left me weak

I have no winning chips to cash out
no iou's to pay
So I stand up from the table
turn and walk away.

I've rolled the dice too many times
I've gambled and I've lost
and finally I realise
the pain of losing, ain't worth the cost.

Raindrops
A Thomas Hawkins Jun 2010
Experiences are raindrops
falling through the sky
each one precious, each one different
let me tell the reason why

Our life is like the sky you see
through which these raindrops fall
we savour precious moments
but cannot keep them all

and so they pass right through our lives
and leave barely a trace
not affecting if we win or lose
just how we ran the race

No matter if they're good or bad
there's one place they all go
to join the waters of our life
and urge the rivers flow

and as they join the swirling mass
on the surface or down deep
they become like distant memories
we were not able to keep

but while they're tumbling through our lives
and we can still enjoy the ride
we try to find the happy ones
from the other ones we hide

but in the end they all become
part of the river bed
as the waters of our life dry up
and leave us here for dead

I will always be your friend
but that will never be enough
at times it makes things hard
at times it makes things tough

you see I want to share my life with you
and know you inside out
of that you can be certain
of that there is no doubt

I listen to you purge your soul
of all that went before
and long for you to realise
I'm standing at your door

It breaks my heart to hear you
tell another tale of woe
of disappointed failures
tween you and your latest beau

It hurts me just to be your friend
but that whats true friends do
Sacrificing my own happiness
so I am there for you

After all you're there for me
when things get a little rough
for you will always be my friend
and that will never be enough

A Thomas Hawkins Jun 2010
The candle light just seems to fit
my dark and sombre mood
as another new relationship
is about to come unglued

Like the inconsistent glow
of the fragile little flame
the fire that once burned so bright
just could not be sustained

and so I sit alone once more
aching in the dark
and wonder why a fool like me
his own words does not hark.

What is the speed of...?
A Thomas Hawkins Jun 2010
Who decides how long is long enough
in matters of the heart
perhaps we should create a scale
to follow from the start

A scale that says when its ok
to go for that first kiss
and other important milestones
in case the signs we miss

But where do these dates come from
on who's logic is it based
because quite frankly their ideas
tend to leave a bitter taste

Each of us different
and we move at different speeds
some make decisions quickly
and some have special needs

So the answer to the question
should be based on naught but us
and not on thoughts of ones we know
who disagree and make a fuss

Juggling sand
A Thomas Hawkins Jun 2010
When things start to go amiss,
we don't always see why,
and we may not even notice,
that look's no longer in her eye.

But maintaining a relationship,
is a bit like juggling sand.
Sometimes you just can't hold it,
and it slips right through your hand.

There's just no way to save it,
no matter what you do,
and that the way its meant to be,
because its not just about you.

You can try your best to get it right,
take nothing and give all,
but when there's someone else involved,
its not always your call.

You may think you've found your perfect match,
and abandoned all your cares.
But sadly just because they're yours,
it doesn't mean you're theirs.

Life
A Thomas Hawkins Jun 2010
When do we stop being children?
Is it when our parents are gone,
is it when we leave home and get married,
or when we have kids of our own?

And when do we have to be grown ups?
When we reach a certain age,
or when the books that map out our lives,
come to a certain page?

So when do we really start living?
Is it when we take that first breath?
And why for some does it not start,
until they have little time left?

And why do some choose to stop living,
long before they get put in the ground?
Cos as long as I wake in the morning,
I'll make **** sure you know I'm around!

See I've in the shadow of happy
gotten by in my own little way
but I finally realized, life is too short
so I'm gonna start living today!
A Thomas Hawkins Jun 2010
My age alone must tell you
I cant be all "that" good

but not quite Robin Hood

But a nice-ish guy I must surely be
as I sometimes come in last
and as for the good ones dying young
thats a test I think I've passed.

But I get by with what I have
its all I really need
To want much more than what you see

The tragedy of war...
A Thomas Hawkins Jun 2010
The tragedy of war,
ends not with those who died
for the tragedy continues
in fragile minds who did survive.

For those who's names appear
on brass plaque or marble stone
are the only ones amongst us
for whom war is truly gone

The survivors of mans biggest crime
their wars will have no end
guilt, despair and bitterness
their constant hateful friend

It's hard to feel like hero's
no matter what you say.
when you're torn by guilt
that you're not the one,
in that green field far away.

So I say to leaders of this world
this nightmare should be gone.
Please realize once and for all
that a war is never won.

Say it
A Thomas Hawkins Jun 2010
Why do we speak in riddles?
We do it all the time.
Why insist on making people,
read between the lines?

Would it really be so bad,
if we just said it straight?
Perhaps the one we'd say it to,
is unsure whether to wait.

Is it the fear of rejection,
that makes us all so coy?
When did it get so difficult,
for a girl to tell the boy?

Is it just as hard for them,
to tell us how they feel,
as it is for us to work out,
what is hope and what is real?

Well the world will end tomorrow,
so is there something you wanna say?
Because it's better late than never,
and at least we'll have today.

Remember not so long ago
when empires ruled the world
and thoughts of independence
led to new flags being unfurled

To be ruled by leaders far away
just simply wouldn't do
Leaders should be from the new world
if we're to make this new world new

And here we are two centuries on
after all that human cost
trying to rule the world
is the irony all lost

We talk of global government
common cash and world police
the very things we fought against
are now a way to peace?

But I guess things must look different
when you look down from the top
Lets remember our own history
and we'll know why they don't stop

Give power back to people
let each man choose his way
or just take the time to listen
to what he has to say

You'll see we put our homes first
our family and friends
and only when we've got that right
do we then start to extend

We don't bail out the millionaire
so he can keep his pool
and then turn round and tell our kids
there's no money left for school

that's not been stripped away
or trampled into blood soaked soil
or fallen to decay

Has compassion found its limit
or is it just fatigued
by constant solicitation
coming from those in need

Has love become a ***** word
in an age of such mistrust
those one time shiny wedding bands
are now just rings of rust

What happened to integrity
and the worth of someones word
The keeping of a promise
is now almost unheard

I sometimes sit and wonder why
and where it all went wrong
how we let ourselves as mankind down
in order to belong

Have we given up our self esteem
our honour and our pride
just to impress others

If music is the food of love
are tone deaf people doomed
Are only those with perfect pitch
for lasting romance groomed

And what of they eye o' the beholder
where beauty is supposed to lay
Do only those with twenty twenty
get to be blessed this way

And if a picture paints a thousand words
and the viewer cannot read
Did the artist therefore waste his time
sowing unfertile seed

We talk a lot of metaphors
about music, love and art
but does really help explain
or just make us sound smart?

enough of all your greed

Look back upon our history

that when ruled by greed and tyranny
we'll fight to become free.
