Zainab Miah Dec 2016
They,
Hid under masquerades.
They wore masks of colour and life
Only, only, they were afraid.

You see, under the smile they wore,
Disguised shattered stories
Too broken to tell.

They wore masks.
They hid under a veil of mediocrity,
They tried to empty themselves
So they could never feel the pain.

They were afraid.

Afraid of being rejected time after time,
Afraid of failure,
Afraid of attempting the climb
Called Life.

So they built walls,
High armed security updated day after day,
Alarms blared at the cracks of authenticity,
At the cracks of the person under the mask.

They manufactured a personality,
1 part deceit
99 parts armour.
They wove lies to their souls for fear of being who they really are.

But we'll break away their facade,
The walls would crumble one by one.
Their armour would tear,
And their laughter would share.

They'll feel the unknown course through their veins,
A tingling sensation they couldn't explain.
And whilst their minds were murmuring that this was wrong,
Their hearts were beating that this:

This was truly right.
