She left me like
Brutus left Caesar
like a shark attack.
My back was bent and
bleeding, and I was well
versed in delirium.

She had the electricity
shut off the day after
she abandoned me, and I drank
myself into a new oblivion.
There were kittens in
the wall--shadows tall and hot,
and I was well-versed
in delirium.

I stole Four Locos' from
the convenience store, but
not enough to keep
the goblins at bay.
They chased me through
my nightmare--molested
me at dawn.
The elixir exorcised the monsters.
But I often misplaced it,
in the dryer or fireplace.
The meat began to rot in
the freezer, and I was
well-versed in delirium.

My moonflowered brain thought
the cat tree was
a person.
I paced the floor and
talked to it; asked questions,
sought solace.
Degradation of the
mind reached critical mass.
And I landed in the
psych ward again.
The bats brought seizures,
and cheesecake, and yogurt
berry parfaits that were
to die for.
I was well-versed in
delirium

Hat
it hangs
on the hat rack

something I've always
threatened to eat

it laughs
it taunts

always reminding me
of how I talk

a really big game
Some humor

Things that I want
or things that I need

you weren't there
I called

but you were
gone
An abstract word painting.

Gold
is something I'll never know

the best
I can hope for

maybe marble

but  it  will
most likely be

granite

a palette
and a beret

could I ask for more
do I

want
An abstract word painting.

The whir of the fan
interrupted

by every penny
I pitch

and I'm idle
with time on my hands

waiting on the Devil
to give me something to do

I pray it only involves
music

All that knowledge
for

a  couple of trips
around the board

as well as pieces
of that plastic pie

for the win the
victory

trivial
of little value and importance
An impressionistic word painting.
