When Friends Surround Me
Michele Davis Nov 2018
My first heart break

When I felt all alone

Running mile after mile

But going nowhere

That elliptical motion

Somehow lulling me

Into that false sense

That I could run away from it all

Lying fetal position

In my empty apartment

As my kitten licks the salt

Running down my face

And I ball into the phone

Even though my best friend

Was six thousand miles away

She managed to point me back to Christ.

Words I will never forget.

"He does not define you.

You are a smart,

confident, sassy,

go getter

Daughter of a beloved king,

Who is holding you tight

as he watches you weep.

He loves you dearly

and has plans for you to prosper."

Longing
Michele Davis Nov 2018
The Robin’s egg blue

Of the pillow

I have in headlock

Is slightly too chipper

For the blue

Reflected upon my face

The oscillating fan

Gently whirring

In the background

Blowing

Smalls whooshes of air

That send shivers up my spine

While I sit there

Limbs wrapped

Around the blue pillow

In a cool embrace

Longing

For the warmth of his touch

To My Dear Sailor
Michele Davis Nov 2018
This Siren Song I write you

I speak the lyric of your people

Crooning the words that call you

Home to your own sea shore

My Dearest Sailor

At home I wait for you

My Siren Song embraces you

While you traverse the Seven Seas

Lest you forget your Lonely Siren

The one behind the screen

My Dearest Sailor

Your Siren eyes the calendar

Counting the days till she sees you

While singing the song of your people

That California sunshine hue

The warmth of your home shore
Emanating from your Siren

She’s adorned herself in lace

In watchful anticipation

Of your adoring embrace

Entropy in the Fall
Michele Davis Oct 2018
As the sunlight fades
And the winter chill is near
And my tan lines linger
I can still feel you here

The warmth of your touch
And the depth of your gaze
The gravelly sound of your voice
Simply sets me ablaze

Though oceans between us
While you’re out to sea
My memory lingers on
The first moment it seized

A warmth without measure
The following days unforeseen
That entropic affection
Traveling through the scenes
