01/01/2020

It's the dawning
Of ones thoughts
Of ones desires
Of ones actions

So choosing wisely
That along with us
That, what benefits us
Also, uplifts others

At the start of this year
and many more to follow
That our vision be clear
Free of deception and chaos

And in so doing
With the dawning of this day
We venture into the realm
Of patience, peace and prosperity
HAPPY NEW YEAR

2021 is beckoning us to

Shed our rusted armor of invincibility
Know that we have been humbled

Drape the cloak of humility
Lest, again and again we stumble

A ballet
07/13/2019

At the break of dawn, light
nudges her slumbering lover.
The cast of light and shadow,
pirouette onto the earthly stage,
and with every passing moment,
a new poise is shaped in place.

Now, the drama being played out,
that stretches all through to dusk,
the fluid movement of the artists,
mesmerizing objects in their wake.

It starts off with the shadow,
being nudged to life by light,
and the slow movement draws,
two lovers into each other's fold,
so by noon you see only one.

But like all the sad tales, this too,
by the beginning of the dusk,
see the lovers, part ways.
For light by Sun is no more,
and only the lonely shadow,
now covers the earthly stage.

A ballet by Full Moon
07/19/2019

As the dusk has turned to night
The lonely shadow now covers the earthly stage
Dreaming of his lover, the light, by Sun has parted
Reminiscing, of light's fold, through the length of the day

Sad was the lonely shadow
Longing to be with his lover once more
Wanting to hold her, in the passionate heat, as by noon
Pleads with the lords of the heavens for a chance
To hold his love, as she, the light of the Sun, held him

Feeling the sorrow of a lover, and hearing the plea
Moon, full, with all its glory, her daughter sent, to soothe,
The torment of the lamenting lover through the night
Once more, the ballet plays out, on the earthly stage
And just past midnight, the two lovers were one again

The shadow though knew, the light, by full Moon's grace
Played the lovers role, and held him in a cool embrace
And as the hours faded, the Moon too will leave this place
Taking her daughter, before dawn, and the lovers will part ways
As the shadow, dreams into slumbering sleep, on the earthly stage

A Conversation with Self
05/23/2019

....on my way to the Pearly Gates

Any moment now
Tick tock
Boy I'm jumpy
Nervous!
Weird thoughts
rummaging
Should I smile
Stand straight
Rumpled clothes
Should have ironed
Too late
Who cares
I do
Now!

Up elevator or down
If I could have done things differently
You want to go thru these issues now
What a trickster
There's no one else
No one to row the boat -
to take me to the judgement hall
What? No lynching horde to filet my bones
Am I to be the judge and jury as well

Naked are my deeds
Fear has me in its vice

Age not Withstanding
05/18/2022

Her tender years oblivious to lapse of time
Enraptured every sense of my being
Earth shifted, beneath my feet, agonizing,
Aye! Triple times the clock has struck midnight
Her youth
Her exuberance
Drew me back to days of ignorance
Power of reasoning momentarily dissipating

Drawn to maturity, she declared
Boys her age, do not equate
Like an empty chalice she hungered
For age and experience, as only source
I must confess it was not a matter of physicality
As any mirror shall bear witness
For maturity demands sensibility, age not withstanding
Her wit, beyond youth, where relationship must rest
Was watching a movie that generated this scribble

A living scarecrow

05/23/2019

I am here
Where shall I park
Park yourself
In the fields

I find a spot
And tie myself to the cross
(bless me father,
for I sinned...
...cut it out
no hilarity,
this is work)
Early dawn
So glad I got my coat on

I see the sun rising
What an exhilarating scene
Sky exuding
Pastel yellow, orange and blue

Here comes the conspiracy
Or is it murders
I must Google how to
Differentiate between ravens and crows

They perch themselves
Firmly on me
To briefly rest
And steal from the field

This goes on for hours
As they also dutifully
Do their duty
On me

What the hell
With their talons
Digging into
My flesh

They can't tell
I'm real
So they go about
Happily

I'm more scared of them
Rather they of me
Well we all got to
Make do somehow

Today
I was a scarecrow
Who knows, what
Will I be tomorrow
I wanted to keep it light today

A Lonely Cog
01/20/2019

I want to take credit for all my successes
And blames others for my failures
Not realizing that while I was the final connection
The whole world played a part in the end result
So many acts have to align for a successful result
Whereas only one act, even unbeknownst,
Can derail and crush all efforts
Remembering that we are but a lonely cog
In this vast and eternal wheel of chance
So while we rejoice, lest not forget.

AM I WHAT I AM
01/25/2019

Am I the image I project
Or, what others perceive
Am I what society has tagged
By my relationship to others
Am I what my deeds profess
Or the actions I committed
Am I just my responsibilities
Or my achievements as well
Am I what I have said
Or what the others hear
In reality, I only exists
As each individual's perception
I AM WHAT I AM

Am I even here

A Moment in Time
Shedding the constraints of indoors
Drawn by the beauty of nature
At first, mesmerized by the flowers in bloom
Soon the mind wandered
The leaves and then the whole plant
Early summer, evening breeze
Everything came into focus
The floor covered with those that had lived their life
And now shall become the fodder
The branches flourishing,
Exuding the intoxicating aroma
Adding color to the background of green
But then the sight awakens
Amongst what drew me first
Was a menagerie of movement
Hosted by the flowers
A gathering of creatures
Small and smaller, winged and otherwise
Just watching, oblivious
Honeybees, ants, flies and lady birds
Enjoying the nectar of their host
Honeybees, bright yellow
Feet covered in pollen
Hovering, as paying homage to its host
Ants and flies tending to their own
And then, the lady birds, in beautiful
Bright red coats with black poker dots
Life, seldom noticed,
Plants enticing its guests with nectar and aroma
Multitudes feasting
Symbiosis, at its utmost
Hours past, light fading
Gust of wind, a mild chill
As if tapping me on the shoulder
The creatures are gone
The party is over
Alas, it’s time to leave.
The beauty of nature
Back to the darkness
Of our own creation

A Moment in Time – II

Oh! So many times, I have longed
For a close encounter, with
The one that mesmerizes me
Rapidly fluttering its wings
To stay in place
What power, what strength
And then it happened
Still in my meditative state
Motionless, my eyes opened
To absorb the nature around
Less than an arm’s length away
Hovering, looking straight at me
A humming bird
That dainty creature.
Studying me, analyzing me
Me, myself in disbelief
Frozen in place, did not want to alarm her
Moments passed, don’t know how many
I was captivated
Soon she sought a perch of a restful twig
Come back, my mind spoke softly
As my eyes followed its path
If that’s all the pleasure I can have
Then, thank you
But before long, she came back
As if she read my thoughts
Same place, and then she chirped
I so wanted to understand her
Tell her to come, rest on me
Not to tire herself too quickly
Let me soak up your beauty, your strength
What did she say?
Was she admiring me as well?
And then she flew back to the restful twigs of the tree again
I was still in awe, still following her every path,
And then it happened, it could not be
I was still mesmerized
By the lucky start to my day
She was back again, chirping and chirping away
Continuing in my meditative state
My mind thanked her profusely
This time as she flew a little further away
My hands clasped in gratitude
As I whispered thank you
A good omen
I contemplated
Wishes do come true.

A Moment in Time - III
It’s a new day
The call to feast has gone out
The table is laid
Scented with perfumery
Vibrant in color
Multitudes at play
All seeking to benefit
Some come flying in
Others crawling, all partaking
The progeny at stake
In the wind
Streaks of light
Nothing is visible
Yet it shines again and again
Reflecting the Sun
There is another host
Waiting to ensnare
Some guests for itself
And then you realize
Everybody is a host
And a guest as well
Waiting to be fed
Or feed itself
Nature is truly all awe inspiring
Suresh Gupta Aug 2018
A Moment in Time - IV
It knows about the open invitation
That the fauna has sent out
Full of vibrant color
Aroma and young sprouts
It piggy backs on the venue
Laying its own decorations
And then waits
For the slightest of sensations
The plans are made
The web is laid
As it contemplates
Upon its’ workmanship
And now its rests
Depleted of energy
Awaiting patiently
For the guests
That will bring the tasty treats
As the exhaustion fades
The hunger gets stronger
But, like an elegant host
It’s not much longer
For a feast and a toast

An Ode To...
12/14/2018

Wrinkles hide
Innocence
Youth lived
Loves lost

Age couldn't hide her elegance
Posture accentuated her gracefulness
Softly Spoken, never to repeat her words
Touch so gentle, sensations deeply felt

Whether in simple garment or a gown
Decked in jewels or a strand of pearls
Proficient in many languages for sure
Exuding serenity thru and thru

Indifferent to status and standard
Company sought by both hi and low
Many a friend, and none if any foe
Reminisced by young and old

Moments together, all we needed
Like bashful children to the end
The sly smiles that lit our faces
None of these can ever be lost

We were not meant to be
Her eyes reflected, me to see
She is still holding my hand
As I hold her, in my heart
Not everything in life has to be sad or serious

Apocalypse 2000

04/02/2019

It happened
It was subtle
Bloodless coup

The victim

DEMOCRACY
Comment from author about the poem: Every day, what I hear, what I see, is that we are suffocating true democracy. Our will to compromise is dead or dying and we are becoming a nation of extremes. If morons are appreciating bafoons to lead, what else can it be termed. After winning the global war of politics, we lost our own way. Who needs sitcoms and reality shows, when it is being enacted on the largest open air theatre - no addmission required.

Apocalypse - World War I
2014

Wasn't this promoted as the "War to end all Wars"

Eager to join, those ignorant souls
Rallied behind the sound of noises, sold
None wanted to miss a chance at fame
Or be called out by their brothers and put to shame
None had experienced the battle cries
Or could conceivably imagine the horrors invented
It became a field for new weapons tried
Their fate, of mass death, was already cemented
Most went to the front line, grossly ill equipped
Believing they'll return soon, as they got shipped
Neither bunker nor trenches were safe harbor to troops amass
Choking, convulsing, fighting to breathe
As they succumbed to the poisonous gases
Lungs crying out, as you hear life's last wheeze
Clambering to climb out of death trap trenches
Only to be ensnared by razor infused barbed wire fences
Then mowed down by bullets thousands per second
From machine guns, another unknown weapon
And what new monster is this item called "tank"
Crushing everything beneath its metal tracks
As all hope of survival drained and sank
Leaving the officers and generals dumb founded in their barracks
And if these were not enough to demoralize the most patriotic spirit
There was that deadly shower that rained down from the flying bird
The only glory lost souls got was a shiny badge of merit
There is no end to this gory tale you must have heard
In trenches, on land and from the sky came the death calling
Over twenty million lost their lives as those innocent bodies kept falling
Those scenes from "Apocalypse World War I, imprinted on my mind
Why intelligence keeps failing, the reason, I cannot find.

A republic, if you can keep it
02/14/2021

A republic, if you can keep it
No truer responsive wit
Giving power of democracy
To individuals, a constitutional gift

Words, laboriously crafted
Differences unfathomable
Multitudes of thoughts drafted
Before goals became achievable

Common aims took precedence
Appeasement, norm of the day
Marrying unholy alliances
Compromise, the ultimate way

Appeasement, compromise,
Essences to achieving final goals
Not born out of convenience
Necessitating moderate control

In the Now political environment
Extremism infused, herd mentality
Bowing to the presence of Lies
Trampling Truth, devoid of causality
Has extremism hijacked the future?

As born.....
06/27/2020

Having being judged, naked

my soul is stripped of its aura
my mind is stripped of its knowledge
my heart is stripped of all desire
my being is stripped of its identity

I journey to Purgatory
These few words highlight the stark reality of our existence.

When birthed, we are born with none of the attributes, and shed them upon departing. Our birth is not a reward, as every aspect of life is a struggle, interspersed with euphoria to keep hope alive. We are a product of fire, and so to purgatory we shall descend.

Ones belief is their own, a means to cope with their struggles. Neither do they influence nor are a part of this reality.

A concise poem is presented, where explanation becomes volumes. I do so want to thank you all for honoring me with these and further comments.

A Storm is brewing

12/11/2019

The wind howled across the plains
Challenging the might, of all touched
The blades of grass, soon to be trampled
The quenching of the land, in red, awaited
On its wing, an omen was carried
Victor and vanquished, to be soon tested

The dark clouds, nor grey, no silver lining
Bathed the field in pitch blackness
Soon to relieve its heavy nectar held
With fierce lighting, shaming sun, blinding sight
Deafening thunder, exploding hearts n mind
To wash the land away of crimson red
there always seem to be a Storm brewing

A Temple is desecrated
07/01/2019

When all other means of care are gone
And WOMAN lays her body bare
A Temple is desecrated

Where knowledge is withheld and suppressed
And MIND bares its ignorance
A Temple is desecrated

Where opioids and syringe are the only urges
And BRAIN is left dysfunctional
A Temple is desecrated

When human actions leave all creatures vulnerable
And EARTH cannot heal itself
A Temple is desecrated

When creation itself is misunderstood
And CREATOR cannot be found
A Temple is desecrated

Beholden

In the sea of darkness
Nothing being visible
The senses cannot perceive
What remains invisible

We know not from whence we came,
We know not where we'd go
One thing is for sure
What journey we're on, we do not know

The seed that borne us
Is not from yesterday
The seed that borne us
Was planted a long long away

We are beholden to those
That we can sense and feel
But they are not the one's
That are here or real

It is stated that we are a product
Of creators imagination
To understand the reasoning
What could have been IT's inspiration

Drum Beat
03/16/2019

Distant,
it's another land
Someone else's war
Rumblings carried on the wind
Too faint

Far
Not my land
Still someone else's war
Now I can hear the explosions
Interspersing the beat

Near
It's distinct
Still not my war
Amongst a thousand
The sound of a single bullet

Close
Deafening explosions
Cracking, snapping, buzzing
By the millions leaving the muzzles
Whaling, screaming and even the whimpering
But the beat is constant

The beat is constant
The whimpering, the screaming,
The buzzing and the snapping
Those explosions they are
All in my head, and now
It's my inescapable war
And the drum beats
Constantly

Fanaticism

Ignorance it's motto
Illiteracy it's weapon
Narrow mindedness it's field
And also it's shield

It gathers the ignorant
In the shroud of illiteracy
Robs them of their freedom
And steals their individuality

It makes some prisoners for life
Some prisoners by birth
Deprived of any reasonings
Robbed of any worth

Having no boundaries
It exists in all of us
Whether born or bread
It destroys all that is precious

In the past it had its emissaries
Without shame or need of guises
In the form of kings and priests
But now hides in many disguises

Liberals want it tamed
But that only sends it underground
Emotions cannot be framed
And voices cannot be drowned

The way to defeat this nemeses
And change ones mentality
Is through knowledge and education
With freedom and individuality

Fear

It's a crime against its host,
And grips it for eternity
None can escape it
How could we, for its taught
At the right age of infancy

The night is its companion
Residing in shadows,
The dark of the day
The dark of the mind
It lives in the darkness of the day
But more so, it lives in the mind
Some would argue its introduction
As a defensive measure
But it eats away at the soul

None of us are immune from it
Nor can we escape it totally
We can try to chip away at it
But can never eradicate it fully
An affliction so potent, its always there
There at the base of our skull

Without differentiation, it inflicts us all,
From the right age of being born
Introduced at infancy, as a protective measure
Once there, it lingers on
The most vicious virus that cannot be eradicated
Not medical or inherited, it's totally manufactured
But once turned on, can never be switched off
It comes in worst shapes, sizes and color
An emotion so strong, I afraid to say
Fear.

The world is a stage
And we are but actors
Forced to play a role
In someone else's script

We didn't ask to be born
But birthed we are

And we lack any directions

We control our own destiny
But that's only Fools Gold
That looses it luster

Who here knows

None of the info available
Proves who's the writer

We can't leave the stage
And clueless re the ending
If we waiver, be born again
Till we finish the play

Not in body, only mind is bold

In damp caves, map I unfold
Inhale pores, of the mold
In bed, after being scold

Imprinted on mind, vein of gold
Back I'll go, when no longer cold
In my hands, riches to hold
A shot at frivolity
