Her eyes
Stephan Aug 2016

Her eyes are the sunrise
that beckons my day
Welcoming butterflies
back out to play

Autumn leaves floating
on breezes divine
Chocolate pie whispers,
the sweetest design

Nightshade ambrosia
in moonbeam delight
Stardust the heavens
have sprinkled tonight

Oceans of wishes,
desire and love
Angelic moments
sent down from above

Her eyes are each evening
the sun has gone down
Mysteries tinted
a soft shade of brown

Midnight seduction
of sensual tone
Three AM kisses
when I am alone

Dark velvet lullabies
softly to stare
Sending me dreams
that my heart longs to share

Beauty a float on
these warm summer skies
That's what I see
when I look in her eyes
Stephan Aug 2016

O’er the seas an angel wishes,
windswept dreams and blowing kisses
Breakfast tides awake the sand
to feature this enchanted land

Oceans green and aqua blues,
tinted morning shimmered hues
A wisp o’ wind doth touch her hair
of tapered breezes come to share

Upon her vessel pearly white
is born the beauty of her sight
So calm at peace and rest allure,
wonders cast from sculpted shore

Adrift to catch a sunny day,
amongst the waters she doth play
Eyes of brown and skin divine,
I long to call this angel mine

I stand the beach in searching of,
that soon my heart shall find her love
As rippled waters bide their time
of deep expanse and salted brine

To sail these waters castaway,
I fall upon my knees and pray
This angel sweet atop the sea,
shall find her way to only me

For on this day as it does smile,
alone she waits in precious style
Of shelled delight and smooth of wake
to bring within my heart to take

This song of coastal oceans main
I hear the melody again
And o’er this dream it can bestow
to sail within her wings aglow

Daffodil dimples
Stephan Aug 2016

Crape myrtle blooms form
the entrance now leading
Into the garden of
dreams that we share

Rose buds and hyacinths
tickle our senses
Blending their fragrance
so sweet with the air

Lantana flowers in
yellows of lemon
Paint summer sunrises
along the wall

Hibiscus petals are
raining so softly
Before our eyes as
their beauty does fall

Daffodil dimples now
show as they're smiling
Watching the two of us
learn happily

That since we met we
have found our dream garden
Grows of our love
now a reality

This sunrise glow
Stephan Aug 2016

Through wooden blinds, uneven slats
the sun it does appear
Beyond the storms of later night,
clouded thick of fear

With pleasant breeze of air to flow
and wishing wells so deep
Dreams cast in coins to bottoms fall
that this your heart shall keep

For in this winded poet stirs
a passion constant strong
The feel for words to touch your soul
amidst a summer song

With distant far off tendencies,
to reach is not a chore
So through these words I hope you find,
it’s you I do adore

And I shall take this sunrise glow
with every breath as new
Believing it is sent with love,
to me from only you

Lilies on a water line
Stephan Aug 2016

Always in my dreams
does this endless fashion flow
When lilies on a water line
bloom in soft colors and ivory whispers
Pushing waves to the shoreline,
where your beauty rests on the warm sand

Caressed by a summer breeze, wispy and cool,
my mind wanders to this place,
beyond the reach of sound
and melodic glances,
singing of this that I feel

Lyrics follow your foot prints,
along the border of desire and hazelnut eyes
painted upon my mind in flavors so intoxicating
As if I have touched you, your skin, like saffron wings
lifting me to an unspoiled solitude

I imagine kissing you, tenderly, for the first time
suspended from a cloud
as my feet refuse to find the earth,
in sight of passion’s grip, wound by silken web
as I melt deeply into your lips

A sensual coast binds us, take us
to enchanting vistas beyond weathered dunes
where we become one, lost within the depths,
pulled by ecstasy’s undertow, drowned in breathless sighs
and salt water moans echoing
along a blushing horizon

Fingers entwined, blurred visions become fog
as only two claim this stretch
of beach as our own
Silhouettes among the crowds of peach and burgundy umbrellas,
tending their towels and tan lines,
oblivious to this love I’ve dreamt awake from miles away

My heart exhales as
sandcastles flee the coming tide and
seashells recall lullabies while
shaded by a setting sun’s drizzling heated plumes
vibrantly along the line that steals your eyes
and I fade, slowly back to where I am,
hoping my dreams are your dreams too

Someone said, "Hey Stephan"
Stephan Aug 2016
.

Someone said, “Hey Stephan,
what’s up with all this love
It seems in every poem
that’s what you’re thinking of

Why are you always dreaming,
why is it you can’t see
That love is just a legend,
a made up fallacy

The world is filled with evil,
don’t you watch the news
CNN or NBC
or others you can choose

Clinton is a liar,
Trump is just a creep
They’ll both destroy the nation
for fortunes that they reap

Murders by the thousands,
death is in the streets
I can’t believe you haven’t seen
within the many tweets

Our water is polluted,
we’re choking on the air
They even have new bathrooms
for every one to share

Prices through the ceiling,
paychecks in the ground
Protesters are screaming,
you can hear them all around

There’s war in other countries
Servers have been hacked
Innocent bystanders
Caught in the attack

Drugs are running rampant,
****** is king
Coming through the border,
such a nasty thing

Little kids are crying,
not enough to eat
Living in the squalor,
sleeping in the street

So tell me, will you Stephan,
what’s up with what you write
Every poem filled with love,
morning, noon and night"

I looked at him a moment
and with all honesty
I said to him, "I’m sorry sir,
were you talking to me?

I was lost writing this poem
for one I do adore
I didn’t hear you talking,
could you please say it once more?"

I walk with a stranger
Stephan Aug 2016
.

I walk with a stranger,
hollow eyes,
emotionless expression,
weathered skin in drab clothing,
barely breathing,
stoic footsteps,
trudging forth, endlessly
along an empty road,
shrouded in a mist
of indecision,
detours mislead,
uphill directions strain,
muscles weaken and burn,
yet I follow where he leads
because this stranger I walk with
is me

Time to smile
Stephan Aug 2016

Even in this darkness, her darkness,
when a moonless sky
preaches fear from a pulpit of shadows
pointing elongated fingers

and walls crumble
into a rubble strewn alleyway
with graffiti issues, spray painted threats
on frantic facades dripping

As common sense
hides in sealed envelopes
addressed but not delivered
to neighborhoods in need

while self professed wanderers
linger on sidewalks of
washed out hopscotch scenes
by a raincloud that never seems to stop

Her beauty shines
in effervescent streams
illuminating a photograph, poetry
and a kind word from quivering lips

caressing my eyes
in watercolor enchantments
and pastel pleasures,
showing me it is not what, but who

For this darkness is hers,
weighted thoughts on soft shoulders
binding wrists in tethered worries,
draining dreams from casted wishes

as regrets rip at the fabric,
folding seams in crooked stitches,
her heart beats to outrun the pain
and still she finds time to smile,  for me
Stephan Aug 2016

The sunrise
may be beautiful,
awash across the
dawning skies
Though morning for me
won’t begin
until you open up
your eyes

For then the beauty
that I see
will start my day
in perfect view
As nothing is
more beautiful
than mornings spent
in love with you

Until you
Stephan Aug 2016

I knew there was a sun
that rose upon the skies each day
Setting in the afternoon
a twilight time display

Daffodils and marigolds
welcoming the spring
Bluebirds in the maple trees
each morning there to sing

Waves upon the ocean
and a moon up in the sky
Stars above that twinkle
as the evening passes by

Mountains in the distance
reaching high into the air
Falling leaves in autumn
and the colors that they share

Early morning snowfall
in a chilly coat of white
Fireflies so playful
on a balmy summer night

I knew there were so many things
yet I could just not see
Until you came into my life
and showed these things to me

And now that I have witnessed
all that nature has to view
Its beauty still does not compare
to what I see in you

Sunset Wishes
Stephan Aug 2016

If sunsets came with wishes,
then in this one I see
I’d wish to the horizon
that you were here with me

Then if I had another

I’d wrap my arms around you
and wish it'd never end

I do not need to be a God
Stephan Aug 2016
.

Me, God’s gift to women
yeah that’ll be the day
I am not like some others
can’t say the things they say

I can’t belittle women
don’t brag about the ***
Shouting size does matter
in line waiting the next

I do not have big muscles
my abs are made of brew
My arms are kind of scrawny
my legs are that way too

Don’t drive a brand new Audi
(I rented up the street)
Wear hundred dollar tennis shoes
upon my two left feet

My watch it is a Seiko
I bought the thing on sale
I do not have a golden tan
I’m really kind of pale

I do not think I’m cooler
than anyone around
And women would be lucky
if it was me they found

I never have been wealthy
my wallet isn’t fat
I don’t have several ladies names
scribbled in a tat

But then it doesn’t matter
what I have said above
I have a special woman
and I am so in love

She really thinks I’m perfect
just the way I am
Says I treat her wonderful,
she’s glad I am her man

She always makes me happy
for her I do the same
I’m not God’s gift to women
and surely won’t complain

For what I’ve have is true love
the best that there can be
I do not need to be a God
if she’s in love with me

Poetry is my insanity
Stephan Aug 2016
.

Poetry is my insanity,
sparks collected in closed eyes,
frantic phrases falling
in a spectrum’s pulsating palette,
picturing icicle webs
and chromatic landscapes
blurring in the distance

Dancing to the sounds
of brain cells singing
rhythmic compositions,
ringing constantly
in between hours of
counted pendulum swings
on fingers and toes

Pulling on my heart,
squeezing every last thought
oozing in blacklight ink
and day-glo sunrises
of fruit cup offerings
and psychedelic posters,
depicting moons
fluttering in crayon heavens
driving me crazy
in the best possible way

Milkshake Kisses
Stephan Aug 2016
.

I’ve seen her for a week or two,
she’s new around these parts
Always with a smile that could
melt the coldest hearts

The other day I waved as she
went strolling down the street
When she waved back, I thought inside,
now her I’d like to meet

She said hello today again
as she went walking by
I grabbed the mail from in the box,
responded with a “hi”

Thinking now’s the perfect time
I added, “how are you?”
She answered, “I am doing fine,
just taking in the view”

I offered her a coffee,
figured I would take a shot
She said, “A coffee sounds real nice
but it is kind of hot”

“Maybe then some iced tea,
I could brew a *** instead?”
But she was thinking something else
for this is what she said

“I’d rather have a milkshake
from the local ice cream shop
Piled high with whipped cream
and a cherry on the top”

I wonder if she noticed
the big smile on my face
“I’ll go get my wallet and
we’ll walk down to the place”

We sat down at the counter and
I thought I’d act real cool
“Two vanilla milkshakes please”
She jumped up from the stool

“Vanilla, are you crazy,
are you touched inside your head?
With a vanilla milkshake
this girl wouldn’t be caught dead”

I just sat there startled,
not too sure what I should say
I never thought vanilla would have
angered her this way

“I’m sorry that I yelled at you,
I know I sounded mean
But something happened long ago
with that flavor of ice cream”

She sat back down and smiled,
I kept staring in her eyes
The perfect shade of brown they were
and then I realized

“I’ll bet you prefer chocolate,
oh so sweet and creamy thick”
She said, “Yes, that’s my favorite,
it’s the flavor I would pick”

I pondered for a moment,
took a little time to think
Should I change my order,
ask for something else to drink?

I said, “Please make hers chocolate
and I’d like to change mine too
Just give me a few minutes
to decide just what to do”

I don’t care for chocolate,
really hate it I must say
I’d rather eat a bullfrog
than that flavor any day

Something flavored burlap,
I would battle past the taste
But I can't handle chocolate,
that would surely be a waste

The waitress brought her milkshake,
she was happy as a child
The cherry and the whipped cream
seemed to drive her kind of wild

Removed the straw and raised
the fancy glass up to her face
And when she set it down again
there was chocolate every place

She then jumped up and kissed me,
made my lips a sticky mess
But also took my breath away,
yes that I must confess

I licked my lips and smiled,
then the strangest thing occurred
My heart was beating rapidly
and everything was blurred

I raised my hand to order,
knew exactly what to do
“What flavor can I get you ***?”
I said, “Make mine chocolate too”

My Heartbeat
Stephan Aug 2016

Can you hear it,
soft on window pane whispers,
floating in sunrise shadows,
smooth as fountains flowing,
drifting in and out of silence,
pouring internal meanings,
rhythmic wishes

Blushed in muted tones,
standing in a rainbow’s arch,
drenched of weeping welcomes,
singing sweet praises
moving in metered time
to your wondrous love,
can you hear it?

When dark clouds collide and
thunder erupts on shaken stares,
rains fall in unrelenting sorrows
along bramble thorn threads,
screaming leaves crash
into a frozen ground
of broken branches
and disgraced smiles,

as cardboard condos
dot the litter strewn landscape
and graffiti drips
in tobacco stained puddles
at the feet of those
standing in an endless line
for bits and scraps
of the life they once knew,

while sons and daughters
face the monsters drugged
by beliefs conjured
on sand blasted battlefields
and bibles of their own deciphering,
bridging the elongated gaps
between lies and promises by those
disguised in designer pantsuits
with fingers crossed
behind their backs

and children have secrets ******
upon them through filthy fingernails
hiding under bed frames
of rusted iron and disgusting touches,
silenced by the horror
of squeaking hinges
and foot steps in the hall,
crying for mothers who don’t believe,

the tears of a poet will be revealed,

****-a-doodle-do crowed the rooster this morning
While I lay all snug in my bed
A screeching like sound just as loud as a freight train
Was pounding away in my head

I pulled up the covers and hid neath a pillow
But still came that noise that I heard
I jumped up from bed and opened the window
And shouted, “Shut up, stupid bird”

But it didn’t listen, it just kept on crowing
My anger did steady increase
I stood in my room, the whole time just thinking
Of ways to make this rooster cease

I hopped in the shower, but I still could hear it
And while I was brushing my teeth
I had an idea that would stop the crowing
Bringing some morning relief

Later that night as we sat at the table
My children looked at me and cried
“Daddy, we can’t seem to find Mr. Rooster,
we looked everywhere, oh we tried”

I felt really bad but my sleep is important
“We’ll look for him after we eat
Now let’s have our dinner, it’s something delicious,
fried chicken just can’t be beat”

Lost together
Stephan Aug 2016

Take my hand we’ll stroll along
this winding way to somewhere far

Through maple trees, warm summer winds
with cricket songs and shooting stars

A garden path of jasmine vine
in moon beam light and fragrance sweet

We'll follow each desire known
and destinies ahead to meet

Two silhouettes, a quiet night
in footprints left on sandy shores

Around the bend, down every lane,
you by my side, I need not more

Until we reach the mountain top,
where echoes flow of wishes tossed

And we shall shout to all the world
within our love, we two are lost . . . together

Stephan Aug 2016
.

I touched the field of amber pleadings
with eyes only sure enough to find that hidden light
Long lost in the sea of forgotten grasses,
brown from the sun, parched by a drought,
exhaling diversions as I stand facing time,
expecting faces to appear but hands caught the sorrow,
passing it down to an earth that is baked and sore,
thirsting for more, a longer plain in this universe

Weeping cocoons snug in the brambles
oblivious to what the outside wears,
blend in with the endings slowly creeping
awaiting metamorphosis
as a tree falls, no noise, no energy for that
Rooted in dismay, clogged by last season’s air,
pausing only to capture one final view
of the smoke stacks, brick faced commandos,
circular spewing pillars
where beneath wealth is created
but eternity is shortened at wholesale prices

Grey skies, a constant color
pressing doom and gloom
into the landscape, fitted like wedges
force fed in spoonfuls of ignorance
Gathering place settings at my feet,
stirring up dust, blurring the wishers
wondering where the water went,
dry beds, serpentine emptiness,
spilling into garbage piles where lakes once
reflected the ripples as they slowly left,
as not even mud stands a fighting chance

When on a hill I see them, the youth,
our future, backpacks and bubblegum,
ear buds and sunglasses, well meaning,
looking for the next iphone, not being taught
that an apple is actually a fruit
Reading comic books about heroes,
caped crusaders who will save the planet
(that must be what the S stands for)
one colored page at a time

And I sit in the dirt, leaving my impression
for that is all I have left, no answers that
have not been asked, no solutions
that remain passed over, just a wild hair
out of place in this take all world
as highways trickle across farm lands
and corn fields are as barren as my stare

But there is hope…there is always hope...

I hope
Note: I meant no offense to children, I believe they are our future and I have great hopes for each and every one of them. I was just trying to make a point kind of metaphorically or something like that.

I didn’t know
Stephan Aug 2016

I didn’t know your touch

Weary days of overcast thoughts
fill the hours with empty longings
Collections of petals for counting
she loves me, she loves me not
Wandering the world,
taking each day as it comes
Blinded by destinations,
desolate highways of dotted line futures

I didn’t know your smile

When eyes opened,
drenched in fate’s promises
Marigold fields whispered
on calling breezes
Shifting sunlight shadows
leading a desperate direction,
tempting my senses,
pulling me towards my every dream

I didn’t know your love

But it was there,
lingering on the horizon,
forming ripples in my heart,
caressing my skin
A constant feather tickling,
bringing happiness to a questioning man,
wondering if I should believe,
would it ever come

I only knew that I needed you

Then when you arrived
the truth became clear
As if I knew you all along,
the mirror of my existence,
that piece of me that was missing
I didn’t know your touch, your smile or your love,
I only knew that I needed you
and now I know I was right

Why does the sun like to show me my shadow
Every morning as I start my day
So long and lanky, it’s right there before me
Seemingly happy to show me the way

Then as the hour brings me into lunchtime
It’s just a blob lying there at my feet
While I devour a tuna fish sandwich
Maybe it’s waiting for something to eat

Come later on I will see it behind me
Following me every where that I go
Why does the sun like to bring me my shadow
Someday I’ll ask him then maybe I’ll know
Dumb, I know.

Luckiest stars
Stephan Aug 2016

Sometimes I wonder when she says she loves me,
what I have done to deserve such a prize
I am not special, not someone so worthy
or smart as some others, at least in my eyes

Oh sure I can write about what I am feeling
in poetic form that will usually rhyme
Poems of love filled with sugary phrases
that tell her how happy I am she is mine

But there are so many who write words of wisdom
with thoughts stimulating in wonderful prose
Stanzas of life and the world all around us,
depth in their meanings, it certainly shows

Difficult subjects that touch us so deeply,
current events, many names in the news
Sadness and sorrow of friends and their passing,
realistic themes now expressing their views

While I write of fairies and peppermint kisses
in fantasy settings with sunflower dreams
Stardust and sunsets and magical places
with lily pads singing in clear mountain streams

What does she see in this heart of a dreamer,
who paints pretty pictures in whimsical weave
Writes everything with the happiest ending,
thinks in forever just past make believe

Sometimes I wonder when she says she loves me,
what I have done to deserve such a prize
But I’ll just keep writing and hope she keeps reading
while thanking the luckiest stars in my skies

The sunrise was singing

The sunrise was singing
as I rose from bed
The sweetest of melodies
played in my head

Harmonies floated
so soft on the air
Apricot skies
on this morning did share

Then when you kissed me
I found it was clear
It was not the sun
on this morning I hear

This wonderful tune
that sang down from above
Was the perfect sound
of our beautiful love
Stephan Aug 2016

Off on a journey of landslide proportions
My plate is as full as I think it should be
Leftover meatloaf does sit in the kitchen
My eyes they are open much too wide to see

I live for these mornings when darkness is shifting
The sun in the east seems to rise with the wind
No telephones ringing unless I am singing
Now won’t you sit down once you choose to come in

Lost on a highway while trying to find you
My days spill as milk that has missed the first glass
Something is funny, a joke you just sent me
One I will place in my mind that will last

Different directions do flood visitations
We make the most of the time that we spend
Each day does pass even though I won’t let it
Oh how I wish that these days would not end

Living in love as an angel walks with me
Lighting the path of the places we go
Bringing our lunch in a tan wicker basket
Sending forth visions that ebb with the flow

Can you believe the direction we’re heading
Found in the middle where dreams they do lie
Symphonies play us their finest collection
Gardens of color to meet every eye

Bluebirds will sing if you listen so closely
Sonnets of love with each flap of their wings
Melodies float like a dandelion seedling
Filling our hearts with the vestige of spring

Colorful leaves gather out in the driveway
Nature born tapestries falling for free
Catching a glimpse of the seasons a’ changing
I am so thankful that you are with me

I feel that I must have picked the right numbers
Winning this jackpot of love you present
Six lucky numbers in some random order
This most precious prize for the dollar I spent

Now if you promise that you’ll never leave me
Standing alone on the corner of shame
Hands in my pockets the coins I am jingling
Asking the sidewalks to tell me my name

Then I will live like a king in a fountain
Splashing your love all over my face
Wet from the shoulders on down to the fashion
Happily laughing so free in this place

Love is the answer to all of my systems
Blood that does flow from my brain now to start
Keeps me alive as it carries affection
Straight from your smile to the depths of my heart

You are my flower that’s constantly blooming
Sending a scent that just drives my mind wild
Perfect your petals that brush past my fingers
Soft as is satin or the skin of a child

Look at me here as I stand now before you
A man who’s been placed in a magical cage
Not an illusion but truth in the making
The secrets revealed on the opposite page

Waving a wand is like dancing on sugar
It may be sweet but you stick to the floor
Nothing will change by that rod you are swinging
As long as you’re stuck to the one you adore

I caught the rose that the singer neglected
Funny how some things in life never change
Happily taking the gifts we’ve been showered
Closing our eyes when the moment is strange

Out of the fog or a misty concoction
That filled up the space that our lives occupied
Connecting our hearts like a staple on paper
Formed by the tears that the two of us cried

This is our fate so that we may enjoy it
Holding our hands in the face of the storm
Calling out windows to motorists passing
Pushing the button to sound the alarm

We are in love, the headlines are reading
Two hearts as one found atop of page four
If you are adding, the decimals point us
Straight down the path that we’ve been looking for

You on my arm is my medal of honor
Proud of our love is what I do foresee
Always, forever and days in between us
And longer still as your love covers me

Soften my heart with the heat of your passion
Brighten my life with the light of your smile
Color my dreams with your wonderful beauty
Live with me here in a magical style

I lay here in peace for I know that you love me
My heart beats for only the thought of your touch
Heaven must miss you, the skies must be lonely
For you are my angel, I love you so much

From slumber, kicking out the last of my dreams,
only to find that they do not end
For there to greet me, words on a page,
a welcome, a smile, waiting as I lift my eyes

Orange sherbet skies paint my windows
above yawning tree lines at the end of a dirt road
Persimmon outlined shadows
dance about my walls inviting me to look

I grab my cup, hot but needed, step into my shoes
passing through to morning, taking a sip
I find more beauty than my eyes have seen,
while birds flit from branch to branch

The air is cool, unusual but so very pleasant,
heated days form in my memories of yesterday,
when cool springs were no match for the flamed heavens
yet perfection now touches my skin

And I see, before me not a morning, not a brilliant sunrise
but you…your words, your touch, finding me at a distance,
telling me that this day is ours, beyond horizons
Gazing south to north, for the beauty of my day is always you

Melodious tides serenade along a foam dipped coast line,
we drift as a single composed symphony,
seduced by a pounding surf, its sensuous rhythm pulsates
flooding our hearts, aching to collide
in the tempo of a lone torrent’s embrace

Scorching August passions seize the moonlit sand,
palm tree shadows dance atop sultry weathered dunes
of lemongrass and saw palmetto,
on saltwater breezes moaning our names, mellifluously
from a distant cantata's horizon

Warm dark *** skin intoxicates, I stagger,
lost in hypnotic topaz eyes, reflective pleadings
of deeper desires sought, fingertips probe sun softened locks,
nightshade tresses, mingling with a rippled surf
as stardust illumines moist swollen lips, parted

Harmonic waves wash atop entwined silhouettes
nearing a crescendo, a pinnacle of pleasure,
where secrets are revealed in half swallowed sighs
on this coastal haven when voices sing in
throaty whispers of impassioned ecstasy

Now as heated breaths hover beneath the moon’s glowing stare
we too build and recede, feeding our amorous desires
as the fading night relinquishes its hold and dawn cracks the sky
Our tide becomes one, our union remains unbroken,
our love, eternally bound by the melody of the sea

If I gave you
Stephan Aug 2016

If I gave you my heart on a big silver platter
would you sit with me here at the edge of the moon
Arranging the stars in a musical pattern
singing along as they whistle their tune

Then could we climb up a peppermint tower
counting each stripe that we touched as we rose
Looking out over the valley in slumber
trying to guess the sweet dreams that they chose

Maybe then sail on an ocean of petals
riding each wave made of marigold leaves
Dropping our anchor just next to the garden
tied to a web that an old spider weaves

Or we might pick up a brush filled with laughter
painting a kite on the chuckling skies
Run with the string as a masterpiece follows
chasing a tail laced with blue butterflies

Kiss in a rainstorm of umbrella whispers
splashing in puddles reflecting your smile
Wake up the sun as it snoozes till lunchtime
rest in the shade holding hands for a while

If I gave you my heart on a big silver platter
showing you life is a beautiful view
Promising all you could ever imagine
would you give me your heart on a big silver platter… too

Did we?
Stephan Aug 2016
.
Your dream that you just told me about,
where we went dancing on a frozen lake
in the middle of July
watching fireworks explode
beneath a canopy of linen scarves
raking leaves of orange and red
while new daisies bloomed
under the fresh fallen snow
coating the sandcastles we had built earlier in the day
beyond the dunes and circled in flip flop prints
in the fresh concrete sidewalk
poured outside of your neighbor’s house
on a Saturday in the rain,
catching candy thrown from a parade float
of paper flowers and moving dragonflies
parked along side the dinner
as we shared a chocolate milkshake
and a slice of pie?

Did we kiss at anytime during your dream?

If not, can we fall back asleep again?
Stephan Aug 2016

When my heart dreams of forever,
only one sight does it see
Running a path to your doorstep,
resting myself on one knee

Placing a ring on your finger,
asking this question of you
“Would you please let your forever,
become my forever too”

Staring above at your beauty,
hearing your voice as you say
“You’ve always been my forever,
our forever starts on this day”

Feeling my smile steady growing,
as in my eyes there’s a gleam
For when my heart dreams of forever,
you are forever its dream

Her smile
Stephan Aug 2016

"There is nothing more beautiful than the poetry I see in her smile"
- Stephan

Her smile is the sunrise that greets me each morning
aglow the horizon in shades of the dawn
The fragrance of jasmine a flow on the breezes
and shimmering dew drops that play on the lawn

A hot cup of coffee with cinnamon doughnuts
while walking through nature where meadowlarks sing
As soft as the petals of roses now blooming
where butterflies welcome the coming of spring

The shade of an oak tree so cool in the summer
with sunflower fields on a sky ever blue
As white cotton clouds float in shapes to discover
and skipping a stone is the best thing to do

Her smile is a poem of euphoric phrases,
written affection in mesmeric rhyme
The song in my mind that is forever playing,
desire filled lyrics to always be mine

A tangerine sunset on ribbons of satin
that gather each day at the far western skies
The stars in the heavens that dance in a moon beam
to wish me good night before I close my eyes

Then every dream that my sleep now entices
to cradle my heart in a wonderful style
All that is beautiful, all that is precious
and all that I love can be found in her smile

Sun kissed,
this distant land
Uncharted waters drift on whispers
of solitude wishes

Soaring high,
like souls afloat on summer breezes,
my mind wafts in the beauty
that only appears in desired dreams

For as my heart does fly
on wings of mystic endeavors
and the planets align in curved formation,
this, my eternal love, seeks only her

The shirt off of my back
Stephan Aug 2016
.

I sat there gazing upon a tree
when I saw a moth resting on the bark
Its wings were similar in color
with the trunk of that old oak,
I suppose to create camouflage
from predators, but I saw it
And then it saw me…

an hour later I didn’t have a shirt
Ok, I know.

Right before my eyes

Violets sing
in the sweet fragrance
of your smile

Their beauty
enriched by
the perfect blossom
that is you

Scented illusions
float on whispered
winds carrying silent
wishes of love to
my heart

As I sit here in awe
of everything
that is you,
blooming right
before my eyes

On a silent nightscape
Stephan Aug 2016

As twilight sighs
neath moon shadow patterns,
my longing heart beats
in perfect cadence
with the universe,
creating constellations
on a silent nightscape
shimmering luminously
of my love for her
Ok, just one.  : )
Stephan Aug 2016

Here, as the dark city glistens,
rain pelts unsuspecting sidewalks,
filling cracks and running gutters
Disguising potholes in black,
snickering as they wait silently
to startle the next drowsy driver to pass by

Neon reflects in puddles of discontent
while high rise lights
flicker in kitchens above where
cold water seems to be the answer
as groggy eyes fiddle with leftover decisions
making more noise than can be heard

3 am, desolate, just a few cats
rummage in alleys for unsuspecting rats
and other rodents who have sold their dreams
for a temporary high, plastic bag desires
that come morning will seek revenge
as hands once more will be out promising redemption,
counting brown leather wing tips and Prada heels

I stop at the old library slated for demolition,
tracing the lopsided heart with our initials
that I carved into the brown brick
as you kept a look out so we wouldn’t get caught
Laughing at the dust that gathered on my shoes,
Telling me it would be forever
not the dust, us
(the dust is still there)

Lonely is a state of mind
for those who stagger these concrete caverns,
unable to sleep
Finding opened eyed nightmares
resemble those that they now run from,
hoping the next corner holds the key
to the past when nights were spent
under warm covers, in soft arms,
not walking alone, not dying, not
here, as the dark city glistens
Ok, I know I got a little dark throughout the day but I promise, this will be the last for now and I'll go back to love poetry tomorrow.  :)

Where from this the door now ******,
creaking screams align the mire
Loosened shadows cough the dust
within a world now set afire

Worry gathers in the mist,
along a crooked staircase rise
Nooses hang from rafter’s twist,
while portraits gaze through swollen eyes

Atone the stench of fevers past,
sweat does stream of wallowed reach
From moors the lines of wretched cast
in lessons taught but not to teach

Break this bread in mirrored shards,
slurp your lime serrated drink
Write as if a napkin bard,
any thought with which you think

Last, these days of sorted lanes,
walking chains and lockets bore
Weakness in your heart now claims
of a time you lived before

Stare the darkness now you keep,
forcing out a sad regret
You shall sow the fear you reap
as the night collects your debt

Woven in the frantic fear
Stephan Aug 2016
.

Sadness looms every dark corner,
spun of worried cobwebs
Threaded feelings of despair
collecting minute particles,
captured by a sticky allure,
woven in the frantic fear
that encases my mind

Stooped in a bleak alleyway
neath dripped graffiti horror
My accelerated breath burns
in exhaled delusions
amidst dumpster definitions
plaguing the infestation
of my guttered heart
Stephan Aug 2016
...

There on the corner it stands
Black thicket jacket
Tightly fitted nightmare
Hemmed in borderline madness

Dancing on a fractured curb
Slightly off balance
But never falling as its prey
Watches on, hypnotized

Wavered movements
In sprayed graffiti howls
Wrench a stoic moon
Against fevered night skies

A coin is tossed,
Shining under the streetlight
Rotating on its edge
Carved lines fluctuate

As steak dinner lockets
Hang around the alley
Whistling at red painted fingernails
Leaning in open car windows

Waste finds its place here
Among the silent, the grey
Brick faced contractors
Belly up for the feast

Table cloth capes
Splattered with last week’s gravy
Brown stains sliding past
Iron gate exits

Yet there is no exit
No entrance, no sidewalk
Or city street to sleep in
Cardboard box condos

In this realm nothing exists but it,
Clutching the unsuspecting
Drinking fear on the rocks
Icy glares in frozen glass

So, wander if you will
Past the crow’s stare
Beady eyes searching
A crooked pathway, and you will see

There on the corner it stands

Needing a fix
Stephan Aug 2016

She stole my heart
and tried to hock it,
but the pawn shop
wouldn’t give her
anything for it
because it was
broken

Feeling bad
she tried to
give it back,
but when she did
I stole hers,
she still has mine –
it’s fixed now
Stephan Aug 2016

I picked a site and pitched my tent,
alone among the trees
The sun was bright, a perfect view,
a sweetly scented breeze

I sat awhile to just relax,
taking in the scene
A warm wind blew across my face,
the feeling so serene

My eyes closed for a minute
when I heard the strangest sound
As if someone was singing,
it was floating all around

I found a path and made my way,
didn’t seem to have a choice
The song it was enchanting me,
hypnotic was the voice

I snuck among the evergreens,
not a sound my steps did make
Till I clearing I did find
along a pristine lake

When then I saw her splashing
in the waters by the shore
My eyes had never seen such beauty
anywhere before

Her hair a glowing shade of brown,
her eyes a burbon gleam
A smile brighter than the sun,
it glistened like a dream

She didn’t see me standing there,
leaning on a tree
I grabbed a stone and skipped it
hoping somehow she would see

Turning as she noticed me,
a startled look she wore
Then dove beneath the surface
in the waters by the shore

I watched the ripples that she made,
their pattern moving slow
I waited for a while
wondering where this girl did go

I soon became quite nervous,
fearing something bad was wrong
And jumped into the water
where she sang her wondrous song

I didn’t see her anywhere,
my heart began to break
Nothing now but silence
I was hearing on this lake

And then I saw some movement
from the corner of my eye
Her head popped from the water
as I fought the urge to cry

She looked at me so funny
while her head turned side to side
I whispered, “Hi, are you okay?
I thought you might have died”

She laughed but didn’t say a word,
my smile quickly grew
When then she was right next to me
and suddenly I knew

This woman that I found today
while following a trail
I now know is a mermaid
as I see her shimmered tail

Its beauty captivated me,
my pulse began to race
Before I even caught my breath
she was right up in my face

She leaned in close and kissed me,
it was such a magic feel
Her lips were soft as morning dew
how could this all be real

She reached below the surface
and retrieved a golden shell
She placed it in my pocket,
I was captured by her spell

We swam all day until the sun
was setting in the west
She never spoke but when she sang
my heart beat through my chest

When one more time she kissed me
and my head began to whirl
I watched now as she swam away
the ripples they did swirl

I was feeling very dizzy
like I could just barely stand
My body oh so heavy
as I made it to dry land

I lay there on the coastline,
shivers raced across my skin
When suddenly I woke up
in my campsite once again

I shook my head and realized
it all had been a dream
I slept most of the day away
at least that’s how it seemed

The stars now twinkled in the sky,
a shining moon above
And what I saw was in my mind,
it wasn't true, this love

When suddenly I felt it,
once again my heart did swell
I reached into my pocket
and produced the golden shell

I guess it really happened
and the kisses felt were real
I've never been so happy
as this joy that I now feel

My lips began to tingle
as they formed into a grin
I can’t wait till tomorrow
to go swimming once again

Because I know I love her,
she’s the one that I adore
And soon we’ll be together
in the waters by the shore
I know, it's probably too long, I guess I got carried away. :)

On a midsummer’s eve

Softly the glow of the evening is falling
Beneath the moon on a serpentine sky
Creating auras beyond every heartbeat
Whispering down in a mystical sigh

Holding you close as the heavens are watching
Gazing upon every smile that they weave
Kissing your lips in the midst of the splendor
Sharing our love on a midsummer’s eve

Opening my eyes,
I awake to the soft glow

And as I wander
in your beauty,
where love surrenders
to each glorious sunrise
and butterflies dance
among the cool shade
caressing the ground,

I know this is where
I want to be,
