Missing her
Stephan Aug 2016

As the lonely afternoon shimmers
in ribbons dancing on far off vistas
while blushing cloud formations
float on breathless breezes
and sunset dreams,

my thoughts wander
through long shadows forming
of maple tree embraces,
when again the silent dusk
finds we are apart

and my saddened heartbeat
echoes upon distant horizons,
anticipating twilight's arrival,
bidding farewell to another day
of missing her
Stephan Aug 2016
.

Standing alone with my shadow,
watching the sun disappear
Fighting the minutes till darkness,
when you’ll no longer be here

During the day you are with me,
wherever I seem to go
But as the evening is starting,
nothing beside me does show

I thought about writing a poem
something with you I would share
Though as I now look to find you
sadly you’re no longer there

I wonder each night what you’re doing,
who do you follow around
As I just hang around staring
at a blank spot on the ground

I guess you are off with another,
while I’m here holding my pen
Once more to wait on the sunrise,
hoping you come back again

Resistance is futile,
so just come here and kiss me

I sure wish your lips
would Klingon tightly to mine

The needs of the many…
forget the many…kiss me

Set a course for her lips,
on my mark…engage!

The trouble with tribbles is…
I’d rather be kissing you

**** it man,
she needs a kiss…

Beneath the Milky Way
Stephan Jul 2016

Upon a beach of silken sand,
neath nighttime's wondrous skies
Stars aglow of heavens hand,
soft moon beams fill your eyes

With gentle seas awash the shore,
the scent of ocean wind
A shooting star our smiles explore,
as dreams once more begin

Now glistening on waters blue,
a hypnotizing light
Illuminates this love so true,
I feel for you this night

In solitude of gentle flow,
the touch of fingertips
A canopy of evening glow,
my kiss upon your lips

This universe is ours to hold,
amongst the stars we'll play
Of secrets now our hearts have told,
beneath the Milky Way

Amidst evening’s lull
Stephan Jul 2016

The forest is lush
in its offer of silence
Solitude dwelling
this path that we stroll

Crepe Myrtle borders
of pink satin petals
Trickling quiet
amidst evening’s lull

Lightening bugs linger,
a soft glow emitting
Shining the way
beneath branches above

All we can hear is
the sound of our heartbeats
Tranquil the rhythm
of whispering love

If I had known
Stephan Jul 2016

I would have dreamt you
a long time ago,
if had I known
you would come true
Stephan Jul 2016

If I were there I would caress your heart
with the thread of a silken cocoon
Stitched now as one on the eve of the weary,
bound by the light of the moon
Careful to touch oh so soft as a feather,
gentle as spider web tears
Keeping you close on the edge of the tomorrow,
shielding your soul from the fears

Dew drop beliefs on the lawn they are waiting,
prisms of lighthearted scenes
Dandelion clouds offer sweet pea protection,
dragonflies float in between
Watching as breezes of painted day whispers
on kite strings of warm summer fire
Sing with the echoes, repeating their sonnet,
offering all you desire

Though all I have is a poet’s conviction,
spilled now in ink penned to share
Hoping on dreams you will rest in the sunrise,
find a few moments to spare
Taking the hand of this forgotten hero,
trusting in him ever true
Open your eyes for a new day is dawning,
written with love just for you

So she will know
Stephan Jul 2016
.

Riding the back of a tiger shark sinking
Crossing an ocean that’s barren and dry
Surfing on waves that the net hasn’t captured
Wondering what a sand dollar will buy

Chasing a thought that I just forgot thinking
Vacuuming memories under the seat
Blowing the horn when its allergy season
Sneezing and sneezing and sneezing, repeat

Singing a song just to bother Bon Jovi
Shot through the heart but not casting the blame
Shaving my head like a rock star gone crazy
Asking the barber to sell me his name

Eating a waffle that’s flat as a pancake
Bathing in syrup a soft maple shade
Cutting a class while the lawns overgrowing
Making a bed that is already made

Changing the tune of a microwave oven
Turning the **** till volume is loud
Watching it spin like a Rolling Stone’s album
Yelling at them to get off of my cloud

Falling asleep throughout Hillary speaking
Leaving a tip but not waking the Bill
Telling the waiter he looks like my brother
Blushing when he says I can call him Jill

(Okay, I know this is getting quite lengthy
Let's take a break for a minute or three
Just enough time to head off to the kitchem
Go pour yourself a nice hot cup of tea)

Squeezing an orange while lemons are striking
Crossing a picket line out in red ink
Finding that permanent means until Tuesday
Seen through a highlighter glowing in pink

Climbing a mountain in old worn old dress shoes
Hurting my feet, it has taken its toll
Wait, not a mountain I meant to say Motown
Moving much better now that I’ve got soul

I figure by now you must think I am crazy
Based on the verses up there and much more
The truth of the matter is I’m kind of lazy
I’ve used this same style of poem before

And just like the others this ends in affection
Regardless of what I have written above
You'll find my poems are fueled by desire
Written for somebody special I love

So if I say the sun whispers in crayons
A basset hound’s bark is as rough as a tree
Piano keys will not unlock Beethoven
Then all I really am hoping you’ll see

Is how she makes me act goofy and silly
Using some phrases that seem quite askew
And why I’m sitting here writing this poem
So she will know that my love will be true

On an evening made for two
Stephan Jul 2016

Far above the borders,
north of anything I’ve seen

Nervous apprehension,
up to now was just a dream

Falling as I see her,
more in love than yesterday

Gazing on her smile,
takes my every breath away

A wished forever meeting,
sunset shimmers lace the skies

Standing now before her,
staring deep within her eyes

Mesmerizing beauty,
twilight whispers float the air

Enchanted by the vision
that my heart has come to share

When at last I kiss her,
moonlight glows the skies above

Stardust sparkles glisten
down on this amazing love

Savoring these moments
on an evening made for two

Knowing that at long last
all my dreams have now come true

I write about…
Stephan Jul 2016

A poem on writing
for that’s what I do
I write out a poem
to share it with you

I write about love
and I write about wishes
Cool summer nights
and warm tender kisses

I write about things
that are close to my heart
Just like my last poem
“I’m ready to start”
(Shameless plug)

I write about tears
and heart broken sorrow
A sunset tonight
and the sunrise tomorrow

Sometimes they are funny,
sometimes they are sad
And sometimes I lean
very close to the bad

I write about flowers
and gardens and trees
Hummingbirds, butterflies,
a soft flowing breeze

I write about stars
and the moon in the sky
The sun and the clouds
every day passing by

I write about snow
and I write about rain
A couple of times
I have written of pain

I write about oceans,
the waves and the shore
Sandcastles, seashells,
footprints and more

I write about music
on violin strings
Guitars and pianos
and melodic things

I write about hope
and I write about dreams
Walks out in nature
near slow moving streams

Won’t write about hate,
don’t like to cause trouble
I run from the subject
real fast, on the double

At times I am goofy
and act like a fool
But never use cuss words
to make me look cool

I don’t write in anger
or feature religion
Well, maybe sometimes,
perhaps just a smidgeon

But mostly I write
as thoughts do occur
And always those thoughts
seem to linger on her

I write so she smiles,
I write so she knows
That I’ll always love her
no matter what goes

I write my affection
so she has to see
That there is no other,
no other for me

I write from the heart
in hopes she will feel
This love that I send
and know it is real

For she is my angel,
my every desire
All I’d ever want
and all I require

So there now you have it
the things that I write
I hope you enjoy what
I’ve shared here tonight

And one final thing,
just a little note
Real soon I'll stop by
and read what you wrote

Easels of dislodged glances
Stephan Jul 2016
.

It has been found that given enough time
failure will find this destined loser
lurking in gallery tints
and water color fault lines

semi gloss replaced by flat

Painting abstract nothings
on a canvas made of words
Broken brushes stain the existing
balance with a voice that collects the remnants

speaking tarnished silver when silence should be golden

Pop art wastelands of dotted balloons
float above the ground where his face falls,
shamed and hidden, in plain sight
with eyes holding quarters of bygone years

melting clocks keep time with his idiocy

Impressionists laugh at his existence
in muted tone chuckles and turpentine snickers
Stretched on easels of dislodged glances
with splattered smocks tied in double knots

one size fits all

This palette of mixed memories
resting on mainstream notions, waits
for the end is sure to come
finding him alone with an empty imagination

and nothing but drop cloth dreams

Wobbly footbridge
Stephan Jul 2016

A bridge above the river fern,
we wander hand in trusted hand
As each has found this sense to yearn,
illumined by a destined plan

A chipmunk scurries through the brush
to gather up the evening fare
Time moves slow, no need to rush
and us without a single care

Before a cascade flowing free,
a whispered mist beckons our eyes
To dream of our eternity
as witnessed by these summer skies

A narrow way, a winding path,
majestic trees stand far and near
In thoughts we find the aftermath
shows every ounce of love so clear

Through rough terrain of rocky ways
and valleys where the sun does shine
Of all that nature now displays
and countless words to call you mine

We pause this wobbly footbridge rail,
side by side to share the scene
Knowing that we shall not fail
to live in this our perfect dream

Stephan Jul 2016

They have feelings,
They experience pain
They love deeply
They cry often
They laugh loudly
They know happiness
and they know sorrow
They express emotions
They get stressed
They relax
They have hearts
and those hearts break at times
They dream
and they imagine
They worry
They help
They wish
They ask
and they tell
They create
They design
They work
and they play
They think
They learn
They hurt
They smile
But most of all
they pour their souls out in their poetry
just hoping someone, anyone will read*

White Cliffs of Dover now sponsored in daydreams
Reading each billboard that rusts on the sky
Checking a map though it’s for the wrong city
She sends a smile to the wink of his eye

Overhead cords hang to signal a stopping
Pulled like a kite that is fighting a breeze
Setting his watch as if time is most urgent
Tiny the gesture to put her at ease

Anxious she strums atop metal and leather
Songs in her head dance at half past the price
Suddenly yanks as the trees are enormous
Grabbing her bag she does not ask him twice

****, screams the brakes and some passengers flying
Coffee and biscuits collide in the aisle
Fixing her hair like a debutante princess
Waits on the door and then exits in style

A tip of his hat to the fatherly captain
Treading deliberate, the stairs leading down
Adjusting his jacket lapels till they’re even
Spun, is her skirt as a fine evening gown

Coughing a hairball, the old engine rumbles
Sigh, moan the bi-folds directed to close
Noticing now that her left hand is empty
Lifting a stone from the shoulder, she throws

Causing a crack in the bug spattered windshield
The bus driver digs for his insurance card
Grumbles a curse word, his bible forsaken
Just a small pebble and not tossed so hard

She stands at the portal awaiting admission
Watches each eye as she fumbles about
Cheers to herself when her fingers meet plaster
Knows all too well it is no time to shout

Apologies gifted like Christmas in August
Promising beer with a head made of foam
When she appears on the exit step lower
In her left hand she now clutches her gnome

Into the lobby of lemon cake ceilings
Chandeliers glisten like ***** champagne
A tap on the bell wakes the concierge sleeping
“That was my dream!” comes his groggy complain

Currency shoveled the counter of granite
Not yet a bride nor a non-shaven groom
Still it is felt like a pink feathered boa
Lovebirds want cages, these two need a room

Holding his hand as they shuffle the staircase
Ornate the copper reflecting her grace
Wearing a smile that is sheepish and woolen
What waits the night paints the look on her face

He calls the bed, fears his ankles are swollen
She shuts the door to their quarters superb
Then slightly opened for placard replacement

“Moonbeams now blushing ‘pon soft heavens ashen,
love flowing deeply this evening called passion”

~~~~~~~~~~
Ensconced in effervescent lingerings
sifting through moonlit seams
Soft flavored drippings of ecstasy
melting slowly within the fever
dancing across my skin
as your fingers trace
the outline of my deepest secrets,
mysteries lodged in seductive breaths
Your love my ******, addictive enchantment
Stimulated senses heightened
Moon drenched quivers, silver lined
adrift on satin sighs
Floating delirious within
hallucinogenic eyes,
seducing my mind in eternal desires
Trance infused emotions
cling to each nuance of mesmeric longings
Swirling smoke ringlets
penetrate stardust cosmos,
culminating in sensual motions
atop gilded sheets
drenched of our rapture,
etched in euphoria
Two silhouettes entwined
on this evening called passion
An unlikely duo
Stephan Jul 2016
.
Watching her board bathed in fog at the station
Spectacles slide down the bridge of his nose
Usually a blur, not in this situation
Smudges can’t hide every beauty she shows
Lugging a satchel in high heels and cotton
In her left hand rests a statue that grins
Such an odd sight, this her concrete companion
Never you mind as the journey begins
Timidly calling the glass doors to open
Counting his change spread of nickels and dimes
Gasping for breath on a curb painted yellow
Escaping the past, oh those horrible times
Filled every row, ‘cept a seat near the driver
All eyes affixed as the vinyl bench sighs
Kicking her shoes to abbreviate blisters
Freedom is felt in the footwear goodbyes
Nervous he waves from the corner still pacing
Climbing the steps of a Westminster bus
Pulled at his limbs by another intrusion
Faking his mood so she thinks there’s a fuss
Taking a seat between cement and flannel
Rolling his eyes that he don’t mean at all
Watching her lips as she inhales discretely
Feeling his library heart start to fall
She tugs his ear with her thin ringless fingers
Whispers a secret he hopes comes to share
Hides from the window, the vehicle moving
Nary a glance towards the morning sun’s glare
She holds her gnome like her life is depending
When all she needs fills the seat right next door
Porcelain dust on her clothes has her sneezing
Handkerchief offered he nicked at the store
Such is the dream of a bookworm delivered
Finding the chapter he’d thought long ago
Angels and demons and pretzel tan loafers
Potholes and clues juggled way down below
What is this trail winding out to the country
She gives a smile so much more than the fare
Holding on tight to a vested creation
Seeking adventure of those debonair
Here now we find such an unlikely duo
Still in their eyes shines reflections of grace
She has her man and her plan contemplated
He has his heart in the very same place
Exhaust fumes emit in a paisley frost pattern
Corduroy sidewalks bid all a farewell
Searching for love is the now destination
What will they find, only time it will tell
And as a western of popcorn persuasion
Into the sunset, they fade in the glow
What once was billed as a short presentation
Nowhere on this page will “The End” now show
I might continue this, not sure.
Yours are the lips
that I long to be kissing
That tender touch
that I’m everyday missing
Found in my dreams
as I sleep reminiscing
Smooth as the ripples
Magical, as if
they pour from a potion
Yours are the lips
The first hint
Stephan Jul 2016
.
I stood at the gate
and was shocked to find
the clasp unfastened
It swung freely on its hinges
as if it had not a care
to whom might enter or leave
I looked out towards the horizon
across the wintered over field,
a stark white landscape
I saw nothing but barren trees with
twisted branches creaking,
silhouettes reaching on an opaque sky
I felt scared and nervous, what
would happen now that the entryway
to my life had been left open
Then I felt someone take my hand,
and looking to my right, there you were,
smiling a sunrise on my face
The day began to sing
in sweet breezes, soft on my skin,
gathering warmly in my heart
So I pulled the gate closed,
secured it tightly and felt the first
hint of spring in your kiss
The north side of the sky
Stephan Jul 2016
Sitting lonely in my room
staring out on empty nights
Listening for the echoes,
heart beat decisions,
climbing vine smothered walls
standing atop
facing the future,
jumping
Spreading my destined wings I fly
soaring ever higher
to the north side of the sky
Collecting roadside mirrors,
reflecting dark days
when life had no meaning
and ropes hung silently,
swinging my direction,
but I cast them off
Spreading my destined wings I fly
no need to say farewell,
to the north side of the sky
Not looking back
on what there was before
Leaving trinkets
of memories,
pieces of yesterday
on the road to forget
As I spread my wings to fly,
for my baby waits for me
on the north side of the sky
drenched in whipped cream
A day off to sleep in
A warm summer day
near a slow moving stream
The stars in the sky
The juiciest steak
prepared medium rare
Seeing your team
win the championship
Watching a kite
as it floats in the air
Making a milkshake
and taking a sip
A trip to the beach
with a cooler of beer
Skiing the slopes
on a fresh coat of snow
Expecting rain
but then finding it clear
It’s so much better
I want you know
In case you wonder
what all of this means
What you now see
in the phrases above
Nothing, not even
my wildest dreams
Could ever be better
than feeling her love
One Sky
Stephan Jul 2016
Quiet echoes bring the night of cricket song and firefly
as masks of clouded abstract shades intercept
Foaming colors take the eye to moments of shadowed dreams,
crimson plumes beneath a starlit canopy
Footing soft on dry grass down paths not yet worn,
wandering along fence line silhouettes
A golden sphere, above mature pecan trees appears as curtains lift
igniting the northern sky in beaconed majesty
Slowly puzzle pieced mist clears and bursts of color,
rainbows of dark bands announce the arrival
as this evening’s lunar show begins amidst
heavy sighs and mesmerized smiles
Soft in splendor, basking in myth,
the full moon, distant yet touching the soul
This night is shared, beyond horizon’s glare
and focused thoughts of two places, two hearts, one sky
Whispers follow beams of ancient descent, silently finding her,
hoping she will sense and know…that it is this moon that is ours
Vast
Stephan Jul 2016
.
Looking on
this expanse that encircles me,
closing in during open hours,
unlocking doors I can’t seem to walk through
Stairways of rotted, termite eaten steps
each with my name painted on them,
creaking underfoot,
losing to the weight of
long lines at self serve counters
wrapping around as if
nothing is free but here
for some reason it is
And I stand right in the middle
alone in this ocean of faces,
polo shirts and penny loafers
staring at cell phone screens,
calling someone,
talking with their hands,
hands free?
Paying it forward,
coffee for the next guy in line,
but not me
For I am just here, anywhere,
somewhere like this,
a thing plopped down,
fallen from the sky,
splattering on the earth,
consumed by the soil,
muddied footprints and all
trudging through the wilderness,
carving a path of existence
breaking branches and
scattering bread crumbs
Still I am me,
standing tall among the taller,
enjoying the shade,
sipping lemonade and eating apple dumplings,
pushing, not pulling forward,
dreaming, (of course)
regardless of tire tracks and scars
or pointed fingers,
Pounding the pavement,
laying a foundation,
driven beyond
Parking lot base,
asphalt themed destinations,
a checkerboard of last rites and dead batteries,
yellow lines on the horizon,
handicapped up front
Looking out over the valley,
watching the world go by,
admiring the beauty,
loving life,
rejoicing in the fact
that it is all so immensely
vast . . .
as am I
Full Moon Waltz
Stephan Jul 2016
.
A simple line of tree top blush
on painted skies which now perform,
unfolding twilight’s majesty
in balanced view of moments born
~for lonely hearts a foot path makes,
in vision’s quest and sonnet breaks~
Beneath these branches draped of leaves
and cedar scents to fill the mind,
to cast a glance of northern flow
awaiting this which we do find
~a watch face offers in its stare,
a different look yet time to share~
How bright this crown does now appear
above the rim of lost regrets,
igniting lover’s wakened hopes
beyond the shadowed silhouettes
~anticipation breathes in flight,
awash in this sweet glow tonight~
For of this breeze, illumined love
in lighted bloomed chrysanthemum,
enchanted kisses destined flow
on stardust highways formed as one
~so listen close on feelings meant
and hear these words of love now sent~
As on this night a light does see,
as two hearts dance the evening’s show,
reaching for that full moon waltz,
before our eyes, melodic glow
*~as I now whisper this to you,
forever will my heart be true~
Stephan Jul 2016
.
What do you do with a fried pickle sandwich
when lavender leaves have messed up its hair
How do you cut it in two equal pieces
while no one is home and you don’t like to share
Why is it sitting alone on the counter
as saucers of milk perform on the stage
Where is the flavor when bland is in fashion
and comic books sing on the very next page
Will you surrender to appetites chanting,
crossing the line where the pickets are white
Shoveling corn flakes when it is not snowing,
flying a kernel instead of a kite
Serving a side that is right down the middle,
leftover vegetables mashed into paste
Like a potato but not very filling,
smothered in ketchup to drown out the taste
Do you like tablecloths made out of vinyl,
just like a record but square when they play
Nothing to spin when you can’t find a needle,
looking through stacks that are covered in hay
Cook books too heavy to fit in your diet,
checking your math while subtracting a pound
Running in place when you’d rather be singing,
wishing the dining room table was round
Can you believe that a poet would write this,
watching a hummingbird outside his door
Smiling from one ear but not to the other
feeling the pinch when his cheeks are too sore
Maybe his mind is a swirl of affection
and it is her that he is thinking of
It’s a safe bet amid all this confusion
the poet who wrote this has fallen in love
Dreaming for a while
Stephan Jul 2016
Drifting soft upon a cloud
Heading nowhere fast
All alone just you and me
Wishing it to last
Here below the skies of blue
Thankful for the day
Everywhere is something new
In its grand display
Reaching out to touch the wind
Flowing summer breeze
Gazing on a winding stream
There between the trees
Following a hummingbird
Quick as it can fly
Looking down upon the earth
Up here in the sky
Feeling warm beneath the sun
Sending forth a smile
Drifting soft upon a cloud
Dreaming for a while
Yeah, I know, another "dream" poem. What can I say, I'm a dreamer. :)
Insiders outside for a while
Stephan Jul 2016
.
My label was showing,
flipping out from behind the collar
of my non-U.S.A. made shirt
Sri Lanka I think,
but I can’t see the back of my neck from here
Perhaps that is why they stare or
maybe it is why they don’t?
Well, that's okay, I’m new here,
first time on this floor
(I pushed the wrong elevator button)
Fancy suits and low cut gowns,
hors d'oeuvres, champagne, noses held high,
some are long ones to look down or up at
“Bat in the cave! Oh, did I say that out loud?
Sorry lady, no I wouldn’t like any avocado"
Whispers, murmurs or just low talking,
there must be a hundred of them
I thread myself through the crowd
making my way to the podium where I speak,
“Hello I am a poet and I’d like to read you something”
A strong gust of wind races against my face,
not air from any open window,
but the breeze created by their mass exodus
as they head for the outdoor terrace
for a smoke or to spit on those below them
Then I saw her, standing in the middle of the room
all alone, staring up at me
Deep brown eyes, dark glistening hair
and a smile that out-beamed the overhead recessed light
“I’d like to hear your poem,” she said in a euphoric voice
I gazed upon her mesmerized, feeling my throat tighten,
sweat appeared on my forehead as I lifted
a slip of paper from my back pocket
I looked it over and looked over at her…again
Then, taking a deep breath muttered,
“I must apologize, for it has become obvious to me
there is no more beautiful poem than the one
standing before me at this very time
To read these words which I have penned
would only pale to this I find”
“Thank you, that is very sweet of you,
would you like to go for a walk in the park?
I’d much rather be outside than inside
and maybe you can read me some
of your wonderful poetry there?”
“I’d love to, but what about them?”
I asked motioning toward the crowd on the terrace
She picked up the tray of sliced avocado, some champagne
and slipped them out the door, then giggled,
“Those insiders will be just fine outside for a while”
As we headed down on the elevator
she leaned up and kissed me
and it was at that very moment, as my heart
was nearly beating out on my chest I knew,
(I had pushed the correct elevator button)
Shining for you
Stephan Jul 2016
If you were the earth
and I were the moon
I'd shine night and day
so maybe real soon
Before very long
I would be the one
That you would look for
instead of the sun
I don’t recognize my footprints anymore,
flashcubes and Kodak moments
distort my sight, blinding so
I barely recognize my name,
as if anyone might call
on the gusts of barren life which hit me full force
Lost in a silent thought
bouncing from shutter to shutter
blistering paint and chipping sorrows
outside the windows, smeared in tears
now resting on dampened sills
reflecting negative images, as I stare
Photographic headlines swing on wire fences
twisted around overexposed dreams,
rusting in the rain, falling piece by tiny piece
until words read like fragmented sentences
in amber speckles on the walk,
asking me to believe
A three legged cat begs for a mouse,
yet the only thing held in this trap is me,
a rat in poetic clothing
as Tripod claws at my leathered skin
trying to erase the scars, captured in the lens
which mocks me – say cheese
A flashcube was an attachment used on a Kodak instamatic camera to create four consectutive flashes for photography. I'll tell you what an instamatic is next time. : )
And, the cat's name is Tripod because he only has three legs, duh. :)
I was walking through
a beautiful forest
yesterday afternoon taking in
all of the wondrous colors
that nature has to offer.
Vibrant green leaves
were lush on the trees,
a bright blue summer sky
slipped through the
breeze flowing branches,
a multitude of brown tones
on the many varieties
of shrubs and plants
created a mosaic of patterns
beneath the majestic canopy above,
when I saw it, in a clearing,
drinking from a crystal clear
slow rippling brook,
it was an old deer,
a white tail I think
and then it dawned on me . . .
old deer rhymes with cold beer!
Coincidence?
I think not.
Ok, I know this is completely stupid but it was stuck in my head and I had to get it out somehow. So, here it is . . . I'm going to go have a beer.  : )
Oh, the title originally was "Poetic thirst" but I changed it hoping more people would read it.  ;)
Harmonies caressed my heart
in soft serenades of
whispering concertos
on the strings of my deepest desires
Acoustic symphonies,
performed on a cappella breezes
in perfectly tuned emotions,
echoed upon my longing skin
Piano compositions
sprinkled with stardust
shimmered before my enchanted eyes
in ivory colored wishes
As my mind thought back to
something I had recently read,
“A smile is worth a million melodies”
finally understanding its meaning ~
for when she smiled, there was music . . .
the most beautiful I have ever heard
Inspired by a comment recently left on one of my poems
One less splinter
Stephan Jul 2016
.
Tweezers work magic,
it doesn’t hurt near what was expected
as the irritant is finally removed
from below the skin
It’s not a void, just a space,
quickly forgotten
soon to be just an illusion,
a rapidly fading echo
Silenced in grey tones
painted on chipped concrete
over dripping graffiti
unreadable at best
Finding sidewalks go both ways,
coming and going
so as not to miss the signs
for merchandise return
Where crowds gather
with department store bags in hand
hoping for a free sample
of the latest kool-aid flavor
While soapbox speakers
boast of past achievements,
wearing armor suits
proven to be defective
Complaining as doorways are boarded up
with rough edged 3/4" plywood,
secured with drywall screws
from the inside
And the world spins,
the sun sets and rises,
because in the end it is just another day,
with one less splinter
Drifting on a lonely stream
where lily pads and ripples direct my thoughts
to the promises of a new day
               I dream I am floating in your arms
as currents gently tug
playing solitaire in wishing hands
among glistening diamonds surfaces
               Searching for each desire’s shoreline
while my eyes wander to a place
long of sunrise sparkles
on soft summer murmurs
               Finding your fragrance on a cool wind’s whisper
my heart is drenched,
cleansed in an endless channel
of what your beauty brings to me
               A shady spot among watercolor shadows
writing poetry,
penning my affections in ink traced lines,
renderings of how wonderful my life is
               Since you have washed over me
leaving me breathless,
submerged far beneath drizzled kisses,
saturated in your love
Hallucinations
Stephan Jul 2016
.
Is it there or is it not?
Before my eyes a deluge of inner thoughts converge,
broadcast on an open plain
for lack of words to feign its impossible meaning
Does it dance or does it walk?
Upon a stair cased flowered veil to deceive,
brilliant the light does mimic
in effervescent golden silhouettes
Will it scream or will it sing?
Only time will fill the feast with ample solutions
Listen close as mornings find us
sleeping on empty cartons of a desperate phrase
Does it live or does it die?
Within my mind the scattered illusions come to bear
of endings soon to find their path
in freedoms born of cascade truths on darkened city streets
Innocent for innocent
Stephan Jul 2016
.
Innocent lives for innocent lives
makes absolutely no sense to me
All lives matter
regardless of color or gender,
religious beliefs or occupation,
language, country of origin
or anything else
Remembering the innocent private citizens killed
in the recent shootings by police officers
and
remembering the innocent police officers killed
while attempting to protect private citizens
they were all people
I originally wrote this a week or so ago after the Dallas, Texas shootings but decided not to post it, hoping that it would be an isolated incident. Sadly it was not, now with the Baton Rouge shootings.
Is this where we are going?
Waking the day
Stephan Jul 2016
Now comes the night when a day fails to linger
Little by little the moon tends to dance
Lonely horizons of memories brittle
Held by my heart in a shade of romance
I am but one on the shores of a river
Slipping my toes in the currents I dream
Drenched in desire as my thoughts find her waiting
More than the beauty this cool evening stream
For all I see is an endless endeavor
Nature brings change in a challenging style
Looking beyond every fern colored shadow
Wishing to have her with me for a while
Leaving the forest I bid it to beckon
Waving farewell to the dark skies above
This now my path to her sunrise affection
Waking the day with the promise of love
