Silent tears
Stephan Sep 2016

The night sky seems darker
as stardust teardrops
fall silently as if mourning
the passing of the day

And as I stare upward
I notice the crescent moon
is frowning with me
as my tears too fall silently

Taking routes
Stephan Sep 2016

Taking routes I’ve long since traveled
Following a desperate moon
Seeking words of comfort written
Hoping they will find you soon

I have wallowed in this darkness
Fought my way through silent days
Felt the thorns of bygone wishes
Pointed in their sad displays

Crossed the plains of lost forgiveness
Looked away when time has died
Stood and faced the longest hours
Wiped away these tears I’ve cried

Just to lift you from these caverns
Memories that haunt your soul
Carving an unsorted feeling
Lifeless as the thoughts control

Lean on me for I shall steady
Every fall your heart may face
Never once to slightly waiver
Like a rock held firm in place

Take my hand it longs to lead you
Far from any distant fear
Showing but a glistened landscape
Skies above forever clear

Where a moonbeam lights your smile
Lasting as the day is long
To fill your heart with healing rhythms
Together as we sing this song

Sitting on a hillside meadow
Counting stars and rainbow hues
Here within my arms to hold you
Wrapped up in these wondrous views

Safely I shall shield your worries
Visions shown to understand
Never more in lonely whispers
On this journey I have manned

Taking routes I’ve long since traveled
Following the glow above
Penning words of comfort written
So that you might feel my love
Stephan Sep 2016
.

We don’t look like they do,
graphic replicas of a life in tatters,
drifting on lonesome clouds
Dove’s wing spread
capturing the wind,
waving goodbye to an existence
that dreams in black and white,
fashioning commercials
like chip and salsa dispensers

Camouflaged by sadness,
greens and browns woven in corduroy overalls
Contemplating the loss
before the beginning creates a title
and words have only meaning
for other who chose to read
and believe that each day
is a jewel in the crown of the month

Floating on seas of discontent
even though heart shaped sails
reflect on horizons
much closer than they appear
but still so far away
that silhouettes resemble unmentionables
as others keep a watchful eye
for anything that even seems
like a tide fueled rumor,
just because they can

Still, we don’t look like they do,
maybe because our visions come through
a brilliant sunrise and we realize
we do need somebody
and we won’t hesitate to cherish,
quietly of course,
those who come to touch us
in the wake of our dreams,
hiding in plain sight,
disguised as no one
in particular
Stephan Sep 2016

“For in your light I dream, as evening takes my hand”

Silently I find my thoughts illumined by your beauty
In soft shimmers of dancing silhouettes
and patterns allowing breaths to sigh

Eyes peer into velvet skies,
visions set in motion eternally, find me
stranded within the confines of my heart, longing for you
Desperate for but a breeze, a movement of shadow,
a hope of wishes made upon the early arrival
of this crested view

Lonely among the maples, towering soldiers
lined at fielded boundaries, claiming wisdom
as they too reach for your smile

“And I yearn the knowledge of your distant view”

Do you think, do you feel, do you dream of me
from balconies high above hibiscus footpaths,
candle lit in passing moments which flicker, enchant

Drinking from a porcelain cup caressed by your hand,
a touch my body pleads, soft fingers on smooth surroundings,
ripples following moonlight sonatas,
days of spring blooms and whimsical showers,
flooding affections to wash over me,
carry me to you

This moon, suspended in charcoal heavens
upon a beaded blanket of perfect pearls,
beckons our dreams in simultaneous fashion

“Does your heart share this moon tonight, with me”

Drifting line to line
Stephan Sep 2016
.
Like an answer it calls,
loud voices of the inspired,
sipping coffee cups
Picking moments like fresh corn,
hoping for the sweetest
Falling into space
in tiny squares of who we are
lost in words
Requested visits due in time
as the door opens,
the mat is clean…WELCOME

Breathing in search of dreams
Still dark outside as
bright light finds me
and I am here
Where I belong…mostly
Some love me, some don’t
some don’t care one way or the other,
but they are all poets,
sharing thoughts and ideas,
well wishes flourish
and sometimes anger, softly ranting

Adventures become lone wanderings,
lush floral habitats
with gardens of fragrant ideas
battling the weeds of yesterday,
still beautiful when woven
in the serendipity,
sown of long ago experiences
and tomorrow’s promises
for those eyes drifting
line to line from
time to time

Human beings, trapped in a world…
not trapped, (that was wrong) found living,
touching others and soothing hearts
Examining feelings with magnified senses
Skipping from here to there,
dressed up for an evening in
Finding direction and offering it
Poetry, it is our blood,
the rivers we float on hand in hand
till we reach the falls
and go headfirst into our own written paradise

Time it does stand still
Stephan Sep 2016

A vision in the distance
as if my mind deceives
This watercolor fancy
of loveliness perceived

I dare not move a muscle
or fight against my will
A breath might break the silence
as if all time stood still

A crisp cool wind a’ blowing,
my heart does skip a beat
For but this man of simple means,
an angel comes to meet

I do not wish to startle,
nor cause an ounce of fear
If this is but a truthful sight,
I pray let her come near

The sun it is not moving,
no shadows formed to play
As this angelic vision,
walks to me this day

With open armed affection,
she takes me by the hand
And leads me to my fantasy,
then whispers of her plan

This day shall last forever,
no setting sun to fill
A love like this was meant to be
and time it does stand still

Nature’s Sprinkled Kisses
Stephan Sep 2016

We gaze into
a misty sky,
layered soft in
raindrop wishes

I hold you close
as we embrace,
drenched in nature’s
sprinkled kisses
She said it is raining and she is sad. Hopefully this will help her smile.
Stephan Sep 2016
.

Well, here I go again,
it’s time to put this pen to work
“Hey, can’t you see I’m sleeping?
He is always such a ****?”

I wonder what they’d like to read,
I usually write of love
“Ain’t that the truth, it seems to be
all he is thinking of”

Perhaps a poem wrapped around
a perfect morning view
“It wouldn’t be the first one
I have seen come out of you”

Or how her beauty touches me
and takes my breath away
“Please not again, the same old line,
find something new to say”

I know, I’ll write of autumn,
its arrival coming soon
“Oh geez, you wrote one yesterday,
at least it’s not the moon”

That's it, I'll write about the moon,
it just popped in my head
“Of course, he never gives me credit
for anything I've said”

A poem about flowers
in the garden would be good
“Oh great, some singing marigolds
neath an arbor where she stood”

How about an ocean,
as the waves crash on the shore
“You’ve written that a hundred times,
they really don’t need more?”

A sunset found at twilight
shining brightly tangerine
“You’re gonna bore them half to death,
if you know what I mean”

I want to say I love her so,
in hopes that she will sigh
“****, you say that one more time,
and I’m saying goodbye”

Well, maybe I’ll just wait
and write a poem later on
“I’m good with that, but promise me,
no dew drops on the lawn”

Here you go, back in the drawer,
until I write again
*“Finally, I’ll get some sleep,
I hate being his pen”
A collaboration with my whining, sarcastic pen.  : )

Changing directions...
Stephan Sep 2016
.

Here on this plain
where my footprints leave
outlines of past travels
and predict forecasts of coming attractions,
I change directions...

I head towards the horizon,
a straight line along this
wayward life,
that imaginary boundary between
then and now,
one foot after the other
seeking...

a different path’s calling,
beckoning my stride,
leading where
shadows disperse and
sunlight fulfills promises
of all that this
life, our destiny has to
offer...

Squires at the gate
Stephan Sep 2016

The squires stood the castle gate
of sword and shield they bear
Awaiting armored knights to be,
lone sentries now aware

A beating sun of torrid feel
embarked the sky this day
As voices called from eastern heights
in echoes cast away

The entrance braced of timber thick,
yon bridge drawn to the sky
To dare not open for the howl
of woodland spirit’s cry

Banished long ago it was
for evil spells it spate
Turned villagers upon themselves
in angered fits of hate

Yet on this simmered summer’s eve
the squires balked their stead
Hypnotically the whispers called
so deep within their head

Manipulated by the breeze
of kindness floating faux
‘mid promises of purity
as white as driven snow

“They cast me o’er” a voice did sift
“No fault I swear of me,
I mingled not in lone affairs
this promise comes you see”

“A certain few, low cretins all
of lies they sold as true
and pockets lined of purest gold
to do what they must do”

“I plead a pardon so to prove
my quest is merely fair
In words of mystic wizard speak
I pledge to only share"

"Hear me, on this mystic night
of incantation's win
Stand aside this harbored fear
so I may live again”

In hazy gaze and wild look
the squires sealed the fate
‘pon lowering the bridge of wood
and opening the gate

When once within, the smile gone
as crimson eyes now stare
“I’ll bring this kingdom to its knees,
I will again, I swear”

Then sharpened claws of viper’s speed
released on angered breath
Did slice ensorcelled squire's flesh
to bleed until their death*

To be continued…maybe

Somber brushes touch the canvas
Mystic in a timeless flow
Shadows cast of tinted pleasures
Mingled with a crimson glow

Strokes to tempt the lonely hearted
Framed in every passion’s plea
Bristles lightly dream emotions
Still an emptiness I see

Slowly found of definition
Sketching scenes in morning song
Palette fueled imagination
Blushing as the day is long

Feel the warmth of subtle colors
Cast your eyes so open wide
Drench yourself in vibrant reaches
Wander as you step inside

This design of love now crafted
Frantic with my own two hands
Desperately in light and texture
Created so you understand

Lines connect in patterns woven
Gathering as pastels show
Seeking but to feel your smile
Painting this so you will know

Dark Conclusion
Stephan Sep 2016
.
I drove the spike
that bent the spine,
the screaming left me
at the turnstile
without exact change
and late for the sunset

Slippery tracks added
to the conceit
while the homeless
decorate sidewalks
in spray paint Monets
leaking onto the curb

Cardboard memories
create hardships
in perforated nightmares,
paying cost for something broken
and calling it a bargain

When the conductor signals
a left turn on a straight run
creasing the
permanent press avenue

And billboards say “god is not dead”
until their contract runs out
and the labels
are peeled
for good

Still I stand here
holding the hammer,
swinging between the rafters
in this life after death
revelry

on any night
of the week
that brings each moment
to a dark conclusion

Well water dreams
Stephan Sep 2016
.

The grapes,
dangling from a leafy vine,
an off-season vintage
in well water dreams
where I come out the victor,
the gallant one
who leads her from the wine
to savor the brandy
poured slowly,
steadily
with affection

but

It is just a dream,
as I awaken
to realize
the alcoholic content
does not meet the region
along a hillside vineyard,
dripping into a café carafe
tempting fruits
that are far sweeter
than something
produced
with feeling

An autumn masterpiece
Stephan Sep 2016

As fall now spins its color wheel,
a’ changing of the leaves to share
Simple are these pleasures shown
now won’t you come and meet me there

To feel the breeze upon your skin
in wafting scents of mountain pine
So I may hold you close to me,
and know you’ll be forever mine

Perhaps we’ll share a tender kiss
while walking slowly in the sun
Admiring the season’s view
as nothing more could be such fun

Then spend the day in shaded bliss
beneath a pastel maple tree
Here in the park as autumn paints
a masterpiece for you and me

Vibrations loosen
the dust on my piano,
releasing tiny particles
into a rectangle sunbeam
dancing about the glass,
while I play sad love songs

fingered imagination
frantically moving
levers in never before
heard melodies
with a locked
sustain pedal
holding each note
to gradually
evanesce
into silence,
as the dust
once again
settles

My mind it thinks
Stephan Sep 2016

My mind it thinks of so many things,
of happy times its known
Directly into my heart it sings
in thoughts that I am shown

When I’m alone and I close my eyes,
it wanders here and there
Through sunny days of the bluest skies,
the sunsets we did share

It shows me daily your gorgeous smile
that takes my breath away
Your eyes reflecting a moonlit style
in glistening display

Your tender arms as they hold me tight,
to never let me go
And kissing you on a summer night,
I shouldn't tell you so

It takes me places that we have been,
the laughter and the fun
Where passion bloomed of our touching skin,
the two of us as one

Those quiet moments of whispered dreams,
our longing wants for more
Forever flowing on endless streams
with one who I adore

It hears your voice as it tells my heart
our love will never die
It also knows that we are apart
and those thoughts make me cry

My mind it thinks of so many things
as I have penned above
But each day all that it wants to think
is how much you I love

I was in a meeting, the boardroom was full
testosterone flowed everywhere
Dressed in a polo, but high dollar suits
were what the execs chose to wear

I sat at the end, with a chair next to me,
where no one decided to sit
Feeling quite weird, I was new to this place
and wondered if I’d be a fit

Them in their ties and me underdressed,
my khakis were old, kind of thin
Button down shirts and cuff links of gold
I guess there’s no chance I’ll fit in

A half hour gone, bored out of my mind,
when I couldn’t believe what I saw
A beautiful woman, a pant suit of silk,
came in from out there in the hall

Her hair chocolate brown with eyes just the same,
she rushed as she looked for a seat
Then sat in the chair, I was happy to share,
now this was a wonderful treat

She said, “**** I’m late, I forgot to stop
and look at my schedule last night”
I said, “That’s okay, they’ve not much to say
I’m sure that it will be alright”

We sat there a while, I stared at her smile,
just hoping she wouldn’t catch me
When then she stood up, it was her time to talk
my god, she was smart, I could see

A room full of men, one amazing woman
and she put them all in their place
Yes, she knew her stuff and I was impressed
but the board, oh the look on their face

They grumbled and groaned and snorted a bit,
but knew today something they learned
I laughed deep inside, when one then stood up
and said to us “meeting adjourned”

I said, “You were great, even though you were late,
and you look so good in that suit”
She said, “Thanks so much, I’m glad you approve
and by the way I think you’re cute”

I got up the nerve and asked her if she’d
like to join me for coffee or tea
She said, “That sounds nice, but I’d much prefer
a drink, sounds much better to me”

I said , “It’s a date and please don’t be late”
She giggled and flashed me a grin
It’s then that I knew, no worries at all,
this place I would surely fit in

And the sun shines again
Stephan Sep 2016
.

As I count crows
sitting on the clothesline
I see a shape in the distance
that I do not recognize
I move a little closer
but the ash trees bring a sad shade
and the lawn flashes its blades,
cutting directly to the heart
in syncopated beatings
like chopping wood in August
when the last saw
is locked away in the shed

I wipe the sweat from my brow
with a scarf scented of past evenings
chasing fireflies and drinking iced tea,
foggy memories in place of
bi-focals smeared and blurred,
unable to focus on the sticker burrs
pulled from my socks,
hanging on for dear life,
let alone the figure approaching
just past the produce stand with
apples and aspargus in season

Still I look,
peering beyond a fractured arbor
of beer bottle skeletons
situated at the far corner
of nowhere’s homestead, off-white pickets
and a rusted gate now
overgrown and over sown
in rows of corn field miseries,
shucked and burned in a steel barrel
down by the mud creek minstrels
playing broken strings
and bent tubas

When I realize it is you
coming home to me,
walking through the sunflowers,
an effervescent blue sky background glows,
roses bloom in pinks and yellows,
robins tend to their young
beneath a rainbow of blessings
in assorted hues and feathers
as what was once what I dreamed
now slowly becomes what I see,
returning to its former beauty
and the sun shines again

The pain,
nothing there, emptiness, voided
feelings hollowed out shadowed
disruptions sitting in the darkness,
alone again and it hurts, god it hurts

That song,
melodic interruptions raining memories
from thunder head showers, down
poured sadness of minor keyed
choices played in you and me sorrow

This thought,
talking to me in whispered losses,
breathing my final words of non
seen poetic failures penned in desperate
ink, smeared by free verse tears

The end,
destitute caverns, deep, eternal,
carved in jagged emotions,
rough hewn outcroppings shattering
because we aren’t, anymore
Everything ends I guess, at least for me it does.

Heaven has found me
Stephan Sep 2016

On silver wings glistening
in June’s final sun
above feathered clouds,
wispy visions floating,
my heart races excitedly,
faster than any wind
rushing outside this small window
for I know below awaits
my promised destiny

Northern destinations,
sit just across the border
along a shoreline of desire
where silent sands
await our footprints,
collected in patterns of love
two at a time
leading to a paradise discovered
within yearning smiles

A year or more has passed,
though it seems only yesterday
when the flower of love bloomed,
scented longings flittering,
written on garden paths leading
to this hour as I unpack,
checking my watch,
constantly glancing towards an
unknowing door

Nervously listening…
every sound in the corridor
becomes an image in my mind,
butterflies gather in
a winged frenzy fluttering
deeply inside of me
as I pace the floor, searching
for the perfect words to say,
poetic or not

When comes a timid knock,
my heart skips a beat
and my pulse runs anxious
I open the door to find a beauty
so pure and mesmerizing
the world around me no longer exists,
replaced by an enchanting melody
I am desperate to sing yet
in this moment I can not speak

I melt into chocolate caramel eyes
as breath escapes me like
ochre and umber leaves falling
to a chilly autumn breeze and
I feel as weak, my knees quiver
as my gaze falls to her rose petal lips
and I can no longer contain myself,
I kiss her, deeply, passionately,
slowly drowning in euphoric bliss

Heaven has found me,
touched me, called me
as my lips caress those of an angel
and I float, deliriously
holding her in my arms
completely lost in the rapture of
realizing that finally
my forever dream
has come true
A poem about one of the best days in my life. At least I have the memories and that is something that can never be taken away from me.

Staring at an end
Stephan Sep 2016
.

Lost, on a shattered plain of existence
Counting vultures circling over head
Naming them to make them seem familiar
Friends with black wings
Looking down
Screaming across the valley
High pitched warnings
Feedback off of dark clouds
Lying here alone…once again alone
A brokenhearted man
Wondering who is holding her now,
What I could have or should have said
Sifting the waters of my mind
Searching for that one gold nugget
That last shining piece of hope
That I can clutch in my hands
But it is not there
And my feathered friends are getting closer
Lower, a hungry expression on their faces
Drooling at the thought
And I point and yell
There is nothing here
Nothing left
Just an empty soul
Staring at an end
Stephan Sep 2016
.

"So quiet that I might hear my own heart beat if it weren't broken"

Your silence wraps me like a worn blanket,
thin and frayed, providing no warmth,
no protection from the cold that invades
my every pore as I sit here
shivering with fear, questioning every
shadow moving outside of the window,
lurking, as if sneering
at this emptiness drenching my soul
with worry and doubt

Lost inside these four walls,
stained and patterned of past dreams,
folding within the plaster nightmares
and faded rectangles where
pictures of us once hung,
smiling faces, memories
I miss those times, our times,
God I miss you

My eyes wet, red and swollen,
nervously seeking any minute reassurance,
even the faintest of whispers
that you somehow still care
And as I listen, counting dust particles
in the muted sunlight,
cowering in this corner,
hearing only silence
echoing in the empty chambers
of my broken heart
Stephan Sep 2016

Sending chills this tortured spine,
as aches precede the worded fiction
Sorted truth does rest sublime
beneath the light of benediction
Broken dreams of compass flair,
directions cast a blinded waning
Trusted roots abridge the square
of all that’s lost and is remaining

Washed along this fertile beach
of sanded hope and history
Tasting o’ thy patterned speech
as common phrases come to me
Desolate my cornered mind
of images I pray be true
Dangling the lost to find
retaliation in my view

Pray, oh be, as life does rattle
chains of only mist to turn
Laughter like some long fought battle,
in amongst we tend to learn
When the calling comes so random,
names are lost on open seas
One by one in columned tandem,
drenched of hell’s insanities

Take me to thy deepest haven,
so that I may find the end
Black as night o’ windswept raven,
come to me now once again
Razored claw and broken arrows,
filled with such, the violence
Playing through the endless narrows,
falling to my own expense

This, a life that's not worth living,
not this day, not anymore
Breaths so tethered in their giving,
pull the drapes and close the door
Take a seat your exits' waiting,
frozen hinges squeak in time
Find the map for navigating,
somehow through this wicked rhyme

Follow me, I know the heading,
down this staircase, up the hall
End those futile tears you're shedding,
she's not waiting for your call
Through this doorway stenciled broken,
toss your heart there on the floor
It is but a useless token,
you'll not need it anymore

You’re now privy to the meaning,
whether you do understand
Motioned light, this night is leaning,
let it take you by the hand
Now of time and missing portal,
through the lens of sights unknown
Nothing whispers you are mortal,
for this day you have been shown

I made a wish upon a star
this evening in the sky
To send my love to where you are
as it goes shooting by

Lost in this realm
Stephan Sep 2016

Tonight I shall dream of an autumn encounter
Holding my head oh so high to the sky
Finding the north holds my one true desire
Realizing days do not end with good bye

Maple leaves fall in affectionate patterns
Seasoned devotion now scenting the air
Passions are stored in a southern collection
Numbered in order of all that we share

For in my mind I imagine horizons
Borderline longings our footprints will trace
Oceans of fresh water rippled sensations
Plaid flannel shirts that are worn in this place

Poetic pleasures to breathe in her writing
Softly they whisper, caressing my skin
Long in between yet so worth the time waiting
Closing my eyes hoping words will begin

Here now I stand all alone in this moment
Finding the glow of your smile on a star
Feeling your touch in a moon beam of quivers
Knowing this dream is wherever you are

Counting the days as the nights become shorter
Riding a cloud in the heavens above
Daring our hearts to be those we can capture
Lost in this realm that is known as our love

This September day
Stephan Sep 2016

Sunrise wishes and morning kisses
in pastel ribbons horizon’s gleam
Morning glories and breakfast stories,
my day with you starts a perfect dream

Dawning shimmers in dew drop glimmers
as bluebirds whistle on yawning skies
Cooler breezes as autumn teases
in colors tinted upon your eyes

Holding hands while we make our plans
your smile takes all my cares away
As our love I am thinking of
to share with you this September day
We all have bad days but we also have many good days too. And the best days are the ones that start with love. :)

Maybe someday
Stephan Sep 2016
.
Another smirking moon,
I haven’t slept for two days
Thoughts of her, of us,
dreams I used to have,
visions of happiness
now faded nightmare images,
swirling in my head,
congesting my brain
I try, I pretend, I wrap my arms
around my pillow,
it's not the same,
not even ******* close
Rapid (open) eye movements
Tear stained cheeks,
(I can't stop crying)
wet sheets
"not the good kind",
tossing and turning,
kicking off the covers,
pulling them back,
missing her smile, her laugh, her
I stare at nothing,
bloodshot eyes reflecting
red LED numbers
blurred beyond midnight,
ticking slowly,
minute after minute after
minute of loneliness
Then, here it comes,
another worthless sunrise
Maybe someday
she’ll come back to me,
maybe someday
she'll love me again,
maybe someday
I’ll get some sleep
Sorry about the language, but I was very upset when I wrote this and literally haven't slept in two days.

Tuning fork echoes
Stephan Sep 2016

Alone in a sonnet he sings to no one,
pouring his life in a thimble
Sheet music saplings unfold in the sun,
melodies eager and nimble

Carving a song in the rock at his feet,
tempos of Saturday’s season
Lyrics he’s written but can not repeat,
sadness a part of the reason

Clouded concertos amass in the sky,
metronome thunderstorms grumble
Holding his breath as he fears he might cry,
deaf as the harmonies crumble

Tuning fork echoes that weep on the wind,
listening for what they are saying
Unrecognizable only to him,
breaking this heart he is playing

Beyond the Gates
Stephan Sep 2016
.

Until the day my death does come,
I breathe my final breathless sigh
My love for you it shall endure,
for all and every reason why
For on this earth I live my life
with spoken words forever true
To bring such joy into your heart,
my love it holds for only you

Till moons above do cease their light
and stars aloft no longer shine
I stand with you my precious love
until the end of borrowed time
When oceans dry and arid scenes
along the shores a sign shall be
The emptiness that others feel
shall never come and enter me

If darkness falls, within my heart,
will shine an ever glowing light
So you will not fear anything
as my sweet love shall hold you tight
No harm, I swear to touch your limbs,
for here I stand in guarded prayer
Protecting you from lost accord
and evil that does soundly bear

A journey long of timeless day
as every morning sun does rise
The beauty that my soul does need
is found so deep within your eyes
As nothing else does matter
in the moments that we both do live
My love shall reign eternal
counting every ounce to you I give

And when the moments shadow
with their quaking hands of empty reach
I’ll climb upon the mountain
and unto their ears my words will preach
My voice a bellowed echo
as the darkened masses have their way
While in this final breath I breathe
I swear to you, to them I say

*“So bring upon your demons
and your angels as they wage their war
To take my soul to places
as the time has come to pay my score
And I shall stand unwaivered
as my promise on this day I cry
This love I have for her shall live
beyond the gates of which I die”

All alone this evening
Stephan Sep 2016

Following a moonbeam
glowing brightly in the sky
Strolling down a pathway
as we watch a firefly

Listening to a melody
sung sweetly on the breeze
All alone this evening
underneath the maple trees

Hand in hand we wander
on this perfect summer night
Dreaming of tomorrows
filled with everything that’s right

Pausing in the shadows
where we share a tender kiss
All alone this evening
in a moment just like this

Gazing on the beauty
that my eyes have come to see
Lingering my vision
when your smile is close to me

Standing in a clearing
counting every star above
All alone this evening
just the two of us in love

A bloom is not forgotten
Stephan Sep 2016

A bloom is not forgotten for its fragrance lingers on
Captured in the morning dew that plays upon the lawn
Delicate the petals when no longer we do find
Still its beauty follows us forever in our mind

The melodies of nightingales within the trees do sing
Until the time they wander off, the wind beneath their wings
When off into the distance finds these birds no longer near
Still their song it plays its tune that we shall always hear

On the beach we build a castle very tall and fine
Made of tiny grains of sand this summer day we find
And even when the tide does wash away our grand surprise
Still we find the magic it did play upon our eyes

When the sun is setting out along the western shore
The warmth upon our skin we felt, we come to want once more
Now as the darkness falls and this new day does turn to night
Still we can remember that the sun was shining bright

As we turn the pages in the brand new book we read
Every new found place into our minds we slowly feed
Coming to the last page and “The End” the words do say
Still we find the story it shall never go away

A bloom is not forgotten for its fragrance lingers on
Captured in the morning dew that plays upon the lawn
But like its beauty this I see when you come into view
I can’t forget a blossom that’s as perfect as are you
Stephan Sep 2016

I watch the sunset fade
beneath angry wintered seas
cresting furiously,
drowning possibilities
of another moonlit night
washing up on this
frostbitten shoreline

Fading reflections falter
atop a jet stream,
coerced from below,
chilled from above,
willing feats of great wandering
as sleet licks old wounds
and footprints
become yesterday puddles
of journeys ending

Castaways cling to ancient dreams,
their treasures sinking deeper
in the murky silt,
while I brace against a frigid wind,
traversing drifting dunes
and snow fence barriers,
heading towards the light

A lone flickering candle
left in the bay window,
the flame, a signal
that your love still awaits,
and my heart warms
as I approach the beauty
I have so longed,
on the other side of
a blue weathered door…

Silence
Stephan Sep 2016

Silence,
gifted in a synthetic quiver,
placed at the marble steps,
dead of dawn delivery,
horse drawn and cloaked,
shaded in black ash
and mortuary mosaics

A hazy mist clings
to porch lights and railings
as thunder roars in the distance
while street cars find *** holes
to be louder than the
steam engines out of sync
with creaking metal tracks

Air raid sirens tested,
weekly since the last great war
forty years ago, just in case
causing hairline fractures in
alabaster pillars standing tall,
hand carved and stamped,
fingerprint adorned
by a cranky neighbor’s kid
singing sesame street
at the top of his lungs

Wiping his nose on his sleeve,
his hands on his pants (and pillars)
peanut butter and maple syrup,
tossing rocks at the goldfish,
making the dog bark,
pestering the gardener
trimming topiaries,
chasing gophers and
killing aphids
with soapy water
left over from last Thursday’s mess

***** dishes,
banging pots and pans,
slamming cabinet doors,
dropping silverware and the like,
shear madness for a flower man
with two shadows
and many unruly hedges
demanding his attention
as the owner sleeps just above
enjoying his gift of
silence
You figure it out, I have no idea what this thing even means. But do it quietly, ok? :)
