I have kept you here
for too long, asking
for things you can
not even give, i have
not loved you properly
and have self-righteously
shouted to the world
what not to do in
love when I
am just as
much at
fault.
(c) Brooke Otto

Emptying my drafts.
Although life is one pitiful concert,
Not everyone needs to play or perform.
The music plays, happily or hurt,
But never loses the mind it flows in from.

The ear of an adolescent girl
Listens intently to quizzical noises.
The voice of a teen male yet to unfurl,
Cracks under pressure before other voices.

Nerves take the best of him, dragging away
The voice of one blossoming new artist.
The listener and artist go to stay
Under the lonely heavens in the mist.

If the two bodies officially met,
What would become of old decisions?
Just as if the mist would rise and wet
Their instruments, would it mute musicians?
A swift look from side to side
Confirms there's no one else behind
I felt them there
I swear
They know what they're doing

They the word that denotes them
Someone else with my efforts to stem
Stop hiding!
It's driving
Me mad in my thoughtful mind

I'll trip again not catch my fall
I saw it coming and couldn't stop at all
I was made a joke
I simply choked
And it was I who made me the fool

"The poets have been mysteriously silent on the subject of cheese." — Gilbert K. Chesterton

Weren't meant to be,
you said.
Lame excuse.
Like chocolate and cheese*,
you said.
But we get to choose.
We are people,
sure,
and we cannot change
who we are.
But we can change how we are.
Opposites attract and likes repel
but there is covalence,
too,
like things that share.
So you are the chocolate,
for you are sweeter than I,
and I will be the cheese-
of the cream variety,
rich like you,
and spreadable, flexible,
and that way we
can make it work.

There is no need
for this awful silence
between you and me.
Silence is beautiful
but it is neither here nor there.
We do what we like.
We'll break it.
Just like we'll break
the rule
of chocolate and cheese.
and it will be easy. [dare I give up the opportunity for a "piece of cake" joke. a piece of chocolate cheesecake.]

if it is suggested to me one more time
that my self-worth
is defined by
• my weight
• how attractive i am
• my ability to be submissive and agreeable
i will unleash
in all her feminist glory
my inner warrior princess
and she will rip your soul out
and spit on it.

Slam it on the floor
And run out that door,
Charlatan down the street,
Mud stung boots on ***** feet.
The suburban
Life;
Papa head full of bourbon
Left his wife
For some ***** ****
Who’ll ****
Cheap, and a beer filled gut
And poor mama outta luck
With some useless kid,
She’ll sell him to the first bid.
Black and white
The TV will yell,
This place is surely hell,
Next room a bottle crashes
Another fight
And a family burns to ashes.
The dogs will bark:
"Has the world gone mad?!"
The dogs will bark:
"The world has gone mad!"
