Lit
Jen Dec 2018
Lit
Only one life,
Live it
Or keep
Waiting,
And
Regret it,
Never lose
Sight of
What gets
You lit.
This is a little poem about living life and following one's dreams. :)  "What gets you lit," refers to your  passion...no reference to cigarettes or **** here, lol.   Hey, but if that is what gets you lit, it is a free country.

Dots
Jen Dec 2018
Night falls, magical
Dust in-between
The dim and The End,
Flies weightless and
Careless,
Canary cloudland
Carries the
Dots in flight, existing
Here nor there,
Their flicker
Absent
As the day
Is swept away.

It escapes.

Beneath
Jen Dec 2018
Beneath
Sea,
Fluid is
Conduit.
Stare up,
Oxygen finds
Unbroken
Pipelines
Underneath
Atmospheric
Resistance,
Transformed
Under
Aqua Presence,
Flows
&
Gives Life
To All.
Hair moves
Like Silk
Strands,
Freely.
Open
Your eyes,
It’s another
World
When
You’re
Beneath
Sea.
I wanted to break down what started with a bunch of wordiness into a simplistic abstract poem that represents losing oneself in a world below the sea...what it might feel like to enter a new world underneath the break between water and the open air.

Pitter-patter
Jen Dec 2018
Yellow tabby sits in the window,
Tail sways from side-to-side
In rhythm with the droplets outside,
Outside where the lake’s surface
Is broken by a thousand beats on its drum,
Pitter-patter, pitter-patter, over and over.
Tears cascade down from heaven’s gates,
And create flowing streams that boil with
Steam and pressure to form a fountain
That splashes from the surface to the sky.
Pitter-patter, pitter-patter, over and over.
Yellow tabby sits in the window,
Eyes move from side-to-side,
In no particular rhythm with the outside,
Outside where the lake’s surface
Is no longer broken by a thousand beats
On its drum.
The sun emerges
To clear the stage.

Never Be
Jen Dec 2018
Stood in the break
Between you and me…
I said goodbye knowing
That you weren’t the
Right one, you see
Through me,
And I could see
Through you.
Doorway,
Was a gateway
To embrace and
Know that we
Would never be.
You see, you weren’t
The one for me,
And there is
Someone else
Out there
For you, maybe.
I knew as I
Gave you one
Last smile and
Waved farewell,
That was
The last
Time I’d
Ever see
You
Again.

Time
Jen Dec 2018
Time, it's flying like a freight train.
No need for tracks, it continues running.
Rocketing forward, flashing by.
It continues on and on.
We can't stop it, even for a second.
It’s unstoppable yet undefined.
No matter how much we try,
It continues on.
Time.

Wish
Jen Dec 2018
Bark lined remnants,
Grow wild, inside the fire.
Uncontrolled burn, let it render
Heat to icy hands
Here in frozen firelight.
Sparks, let them fly,
Make one wish tonight.
Don’t tell anyone what it is,
Or, it might not take flight.

Supernova
Jen Dec 2018
For a short time,
Supernova outshines galaxies;
It explodes and
Imprints images
Across Andromeda's face,
Overexposed across its gaze,
Blinds & Spills in all directions,
Up & Up. Down & Down. Around & Around.

I’d drag these regrets to the far-off reaches,
Just to be left speechless,
As we watch it outshine the Sun,
I would.

I forgive you, and myself too.
It was supernova, not meant to live
Long.

Forgiveness
Is like a Nebula’s Kiss,
It gives birth to new life
And leaves the past behind.

A star dies in supernova flame,
And the view from here is spectacular,
Don't miss it.
This poem is a reflection on past relationships with friends and lovers that did not last and the importance of forgiveness and moving on with your life after "the blast" of the supernova, as a relationship dies.  We must remember, that although some stars die, others are meant to be reborn in  Nebula.

Christmas Poem (Revised)
Jen Dec 2018
Snow Falls,
On this magical,
Christmas night.

Not a soul in sight-
But I can hear,
Your song.

There are lights
Glimmering
In the distance,
They wrap
Their way
Around pine needles,
A never-ending
Maze
Of branches,
Catching
Falling Snow.
Blanketing.
Forgiving.

There is no sound,
Only silence all around,
As white flecks,
Reflect
Off the ground.

God-
I know you're there.

Can you hear,
This prayer?
I originally wrote this poem on 12/24/2017 and made some minor revisions.  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all you amazing poets! :)

Dark Fairy Tale
Jen Dec 2018
It all started
So light,
Until I heard
A voice barely say,
“Welcome to the Dark Fairy Tale,
Run for your life."

Then these thoughts
Crossed my mind,
The warning signs
Were all there,
I should have turned
Back at the masquerade ball;
Pulled off the mask,
Face revealed,
Smell of her
Perfume in
Your hair.

Kept the truth
Locked up with
Gingerbread
And sparkle dust,
"Love."

Trapped
In a toxic tale;
Couldn't sleep,
The Gothic prince
Took my hand
So charmingly,
And said, "Come with me..."
He spun me round' and
Swept me off my feet,
Until I fell to the
Floor and couldn't
See.

Cinderella Dream;
Coated with Candy Cream,
It was all fun and games,
Until I realized his
Premeditated plans
To take away
All the best parts
Of me.

Poison apple
Portrayal
Forever
Frozen in
Glass frame
Would be
An unlikely
Ending.

Tonight
Jen Dec 2018
Tonight
The airwaves signal your voice across the skyline,
Transport your words by paper planes with origami wings;
Up High;
And, it’s like you’re still alive, it’s like you haven’t left…
At peace is the frequency that radiates throughout
Your soul now at ease, feel the breeze so real
It Seems;
Tonight, it’s like you’re still alive...

Unruly
Jen Dec 2018
Voices sing—
Mesmerizing, hypnotizing;
Trapped thoughts
Live out stories in your head
As you rest in your bed,
And you never
Thought you’d be,
Caught in this web,
Living out fantasies,
Unruly
As you sleep,
And everything
Fades,
Only faint memories
Remain,
When you wake.

Jen Dec 2018

Trying
To follow
False hearts
To the edge
Of the earth,
Finished

Over lost love letters,
Lit up by the smallest
Flame,
In this moment,
I’m my only
Friend and enemy.

Hold On
Jen Dec 2018
Hold on,
It’s never easy,
Take this thread,
It’s all you have
Left.

No matter
What you’re
Struggling with,
Hold on.

A chain of soft fabric string,
Dangles from a branch
In the wind, swirling buoyed,
It’s barely afloat by tendrils
That split, so thin.

Hold on,
Don’t let go,
To be taken
By the wind.
It's extremely windy here today, and I'm reminded of the human condition and depression that so many people live with.  Personally,  I struggle with PTSD from some events in my life so far.  I've found that it has been a struggle during the holiday season this year to be cheerful.  This poem is meant as a message of hope for those battling the silent killer, depression.  There is always hope and a reason to live.  Much love!

Siren Song
Jen Dec 2018
The sky is purple tonight,
Sweetness laces invisibly.

Waves roll in,
Is it what
You leave behind
That matters?
Answer:
Also
The here,
The now.

I can hear
Them as they crash to
Hit land roughly—
Phantoms,
Hidden but fierce,
These waves race.

A force to be
Reckoned with...

There is
Something calming,
About listening
To siren songs,
In the dark.

Nothing else,
Comes to mind.
Forgetting
Your troubles,
Leaving
Them on
The Shore,
Behind you.

There’s something
About
The motion;
Losing your
Worries
In the vastness.

Pools subside to nothingness.

Devotion,
Circles
The sea
To wash
Ashore
With endless
Possibilities.

Pools subside to nothingness.

There's a reason,
It's called
A Siren Song.

Wind
Jen Dec 2018
The wind blew
Fast, like shooting stars.

Bridges linked,
Supersonic speeds,
Crossed oceans,
Networks
Of waves
And branches
Traveled
Above
Salt-Water-Smoke;
For miles, bespoke.

Swiftly carried
By air;
To arrive
Out of nowhere.

Shut the doors,
Closed them tight.
Kept the breeze
Out
On that cold, cold
Night.

Go
Jen Dec 2018
Go
Where do you
Want to go tonight?
    The Great Expanse,
Laid out in the distance.

Dream on, and sleep
As a man
  In a spaceship
Slips into space—

Open cavern door,
And he lives, freely.
  In the abyss, gravity exists.
Mask in place.

Where do you want
To go tonight?

Oxygen
Moves about
His suit.

He takes a drive,
Into the night.
Yellow stripes
Trail behind.

Isn’t the
Universe
A mind-blowing
Place?

Take it Down
Jen Dec 2018
Take it down to the ground,
Take it down to the cattails
And drown your legs
Up to your knees in lake water,
In nature’s loving arms, again.
No longer a kid, and it’s okay.
Take it down, take it down.
Don’t wait, this day was made
For you, me, for us.
So, just take it down, take it down.
Let the stream and polished stones
Set you free...
Until your feet find growing grass.
Take it down, take it down.
It’s all around,
Take it down
To nature's sound.
Imagination knocked and took me here, so I went with it.  Inspired by music by Seattle artist Samuel Orson, a musician that a fellow poet on here mentioned.

As Lovers Do
Jen Dec 2018
Oh lover,
I ravaged your plans.
You said you knew
How you would
Lay me down;
Instead,
I took your hand
And led you
Down the
Stairs- Heaven bound.
You said you wanted
Me in
Every corner,
Until none remained.
So, we did
As lovers do.
After going
Down the
Stairs,
I sat you down
On an accent chair,
Then removed
My clothes too.
Your heart raced,
And you looked
Surprised;
The rest,
Is left untold.
We did
As lovers do.
Just reminiscing on a memory from a while ago... my current reality isn't this exciting...ha-ha. :)

Many rusty keys,
Sit in a box with
Stories to tell.

This one leads
To a door
That hides
Forbidden
Fairy tales.

Be careful,
Close it
Fast behind you,
Or the dragon
Will follow
You out.

Another silver key,
Unlocks
Shattered Dreams
Put back together,
Piece by piece.

This one is

It takes you
Away from

And lets you
Hide
And
Find

Want
Jen Dec 2018
Sometimes, it is easy to think “It’s just me;”
We all sometimes, feel lonely.
You can want something so badly,
Deep within your bones; Sometimes,
Reality condones that it is best left alone.
Thought I felt you throughout the day,
Couldn’t stop smiling at the thought of your words.
Created something from your insights; felt alive,
Inside.

Someone else wanted me, but not in a loving way.
Once wore his locket around my neck;
Was just false hope that it was real,
It wasn’t;
Was just a broken wheel
That kept rolling along; wobbling.
Until one day,
It stopped.

Walk Home
Jen Dec 2018
The day is done—
Clock strikes 4pm,
And it’s time to walk home, again.
It’s raining and cold.
I lock up my desk,
And head to the elevator
Ready to leave, say goodbye to this place;
Down 34 floors, exit to pavement’s freedom;
I pass the larger than life
Plato blue abstract statue,
Cardio up the hill,
Sadly, smell human waste
Coming from a small enclave
Of trees, where the homeless sleep.
I usually hold my breath and count my blessings.
I realize that any of us might easily become homeless.
I am grateful for my life and a place that keeps its warmth.
Then, I walk across the bridge,
Rush hour traffic stalled like a clogged artery.
Many cars, lights, and skyscrapers line the distance.
I like to think of the city as a heart in human body,
And the closer you get to its core, you can hear its blood flow.
Once past this point, I feel I can breathe again as the cells
Spread out more to my neighborhood, gentrified;
Pass the latest construction with a sign that displays,
“Affordable Housing for All.”
I have yet to see it.
Marijuana streams drift out windows,
There's the school overlooking to mountain's peak;
Just three more cross walks and I’ll be home, free.

I remember the drive,
Across those
Watercolor splotched
State lines,
Smears of time passed fast,
Downpours covered,
Played a symphony
Above our heads,
Gushed down on roadways,
We are truly powerless.
Arrived safely,
Eyed signs like a game,
Counted down the miles,
Sweet freedom
And comfort,
I reached a destination
To call,
“Home.”

Equilibrium
Jen Dec 2018
Equilibrium, the flow of current moves against air.
Prolongation of sound resonates, and it speaks of unearthly escapes.

Leaking pipes in a seascape painting scrape off old oil;
A wall revealed, it hides behind the canvas.

This scene is spectral, and soundscapes release chants;
On and on and on,
On and on and on,
Freedom is your choice,
And we’ll always have
Daybreak daydreams, to keep demons away.
I have been working on overcoming writer's block.  I found a site that has a lot of poetry prompts and creative writing ideas.  One of the suggestions was to listen to a random song you have never heard and write about it.  It worked, but I'm still not sure what to think of the finished product.  I had to listen to three random songs to come up with this.  One was a new age electronic song with a lot of slurred voices and beats, another was more pop-like, and the last I do not remember...ha ha. Oh, it's a song called "Don't Go Too Far (Deconstructed)" by Twiceyoung.
