Dirty War.
Gaffer Mar 2016
It was never about the goodwill, the charm
Not remotely
Just the lies
But not any old lies
No, lies that made a difference
Dropped into conversation, subtlely
Then became consequences
Affecting lives
Watching as the poison took effect
Gratifying from a distance
Better than a shot to the head
Moving on to the next one
Words at the end of the phone
More words, just a hint
Heresay
Death on a dark night
Senseless, yet so brutal
No affiliations, why
Small wars breakout
New faces, click
Names to faces
Phone call in the night
Chaos ensues
Car stops as shadowy figure enters from the dark
Drives off
Dossier complete.

What would you do.
Gaffer Jun 2015
Big fat guy ******* a ciggie
Pushing a pram
Will he be around for his next birthday
Does he give a ****

Young kid wearing a suicide vest
Full of hate
What's his fate
Sees his mother as he pushes the button
Is it too late

Young girl in the clinic
Time not right
Life to lead
Her body
You have to concede

The Soldier on the screen
Sees the target
Surrounded by children
Is it a moral dilemma
The few for the many
Is it his duty
Does he walk away

They all walk down the same street
Don’t meet
But united in the universe of time
Life will go on
It always will
Actions have consequences
What would you do.

What do you know
Didn’t work out for you and Joe
What can I say
Did I mention he was gay
Still, what about you and Di
Brought a tear to a glass eye
It was your mum who asked the question
What’s a Bi ,,,,,
Had to laugh, my oh my
Still, these things are sent to try us
Sorry about Gus, and the bus
Just not fare, oops sorry, meant fair
Your mother tells me you’ve met the one
Drumroll please, he’s Japanese
Strange name though, Harry
Okay just got an update, Hara Kari
What are you doing with these guys, never mind Di
Your mum says its been a week with the Greek
I’m over the moon
Spoke too soon
Fell off his horse
Was it wooden
I’m hearing you’re in Finland with some geyser called Stan
Already I’m thinking, poor man
Okay, your mum’s going on about a bear
Now Stan’s no longer there
It’s a nightmare
Where will it end
What, you’ve found a friend
Setting a new trend
Well, now I feel at ease
You’re kidding, deadly disease
Your mum says you want to try again
O.M.G, have you gone insane
I’m heading for the hills
Taking pills
Throwing myself under a train
Missed the bus
Playing Russian roulette
Oh no, I've just realised
This is how it all begun
You've won.

Vampires Delight.
Gaffer Feb 2017
Her misshapen ******* were the straightest things about her.
Unlike her personality which corkscrewed wine going out of fashion.
We met on the other side.
In the dead of night.
I was dead, I said goodnight.
She was living on vampires delight.
Do you want me to go down.
Go down, are you nuts.
Go down and get more wine.
Yeah you go down and drink yourself to death.
I’ll do that, see you in the a.m.
Great, tell me how I did.
I will.
Seems I did great.
Don’t remember you being naked the last drink I saw you.
I came back for your promise, you made me work for it.
This ****’s been violated, hope you didn’t work to hard.
It was worth it, wine and frustration and ******* lead to come-sation.
Wish I was there.
You were to a point, we shared a joint.
Talking about joints, don’t you have one to get back to.
Do you know, you can tell a lot about a man from his wine collection.
You would know, you drank most of it.
Do you fancy doing it in the shower.
Did you see ******.
I’ll get us a refill, goodbye *** is so hot.
Goodbye would be hotter.
Is this a good wine, I’ve poured it on my *******.
What, that’s a hundred pounds a bottle, put it back.
Double pleasure for you when you lick it off.
You don't lick wine like that, you savour it.
Well savour it then, fifty pounds a breast.
Would be cheaper killing her, nobody would miss her anyway.
Is wine a good investment.
It was till I met you.
My dad’s left me some money, he was an oil baron, you know.
When you say oil baron, do you mean he delivered oil.
No, he owned wells in Texas
You’re winding me up.
No, I’m worth a fortune.
Wine is a good investment. We should go back to bed and discuss our future. Things are finally looking up.

You defy belief
Thanks dear
I mean, seven in the morning and you’re sober
Pub went on fire, early night
Someday you will die a lonely man
My God, that philosophy degree has done you good
Why, because i state the obvious
Exactly, we’re all going to die someday
Not from liver cirrhosis
No, you’ll go from nagging-itis
Always the comic
Being married to you dear, brings out the best in me
Do you ever wonder why i left
Have you left
Yes, i’m now happy with Jeff
Philosophy again, seven in the morning, you passing by
I was concerned about you
Jeff’s boring the pants off you
No he isn't, he’s my rock
Fancy a quickie
Certainly not
C’mon he’s a boring history teacher
Jeff’s a lecturer
It’s written all over your face, frustration my dear
Our *** life is great
*** to the Boer war, riveting
Jeff is tuned into me
Battle of Britain music, is that oral to Jeff
Fucken hate you
I see that look in your eyes
Hate you
You want me
Shut up, lets go
Will you be passing by again anytime soon
Not if i can help it
You sure, i don’t mind helping out
Going for a romantic weekend with Jeff
See you Monday then
Only if i'm passing by

They stopped to talk when they noticed him
He always sits there
Has done for years
Maybe he likes the spot
No, it’s tragic
Pray tell
Well, i don’t actually know
I Think his wife died there
You think
Yes, my mother told me when i was a child
Told you what
Told me something tragic had happened
But you don’t know what
Well, you don’t ask
Why don’t you ask
You don’t impose in peoples grief
Everybody knows that
Is he grieving
Of course he’s grieving, it’s obvious
It’s curious, not obvious
One way to find out though
You’re not going to ask him
I am

The story

I sit here everyday
For everyday the scene changes
Today i see a couple across from me
Other days, it maybe a jogger, dog walker, children playing.
Sunshine, rain, gales, snow
I will go home and paint that scene
It will always be different
And with a twinkle in his eye, he laughed
I may even have painted you as a child out with your mum
The ice was broken
My mum always brought me here
She would love it to think someone had painted us
They spoke in length
A stroll in the park had changed her life
The visit to her mum was extra special
She had a special gift.

Says it keeps him off the streets
Plus, he has an empathy with death
His dog died
One time they brought this woman in
He started jumping up and down
The ex wife, sheer elation
Sadly it turned out to be somebody else
But he phoned just to check
He answered
She was fasting
Still trying to get down to that ideal weight then
I’ll phone back in three years
One phone slammed down
It’s always the little things that cheer you up
Someday he thought
They would both come in together
Actually made the job worth doing
But for now
He would tenderly prepare the ex wife's body double
Tonight he would get back to his book
Titled
How to get away with it.

Gentle like snow
Interrupted by death

Every night the same
Searching, for what
Lost in time
Naked

Touched by her radiance
Innocence, dance like
Love on clouds
Interrupted by death

Strange
Trying to define
Yet dangerous

She could be her
For that second
Just a second
Interrupted by death

He was a drug now

Passage of the woman
Running towards him
Warm
Interrupted by death

Unveiled, for the final time

Bows out, beauty untouched

Radioactive fallout kills the pain, don’t eat the fruit without the silver suit
Read the signs, stars are on the wane, I’m on a higher plane
Black women wear white to shine the skin, purify the race, educate the masses to a greater state
White man loves black, he sees the dark touching deep, can’t sleep without the thought, black women enslaved to bleed, chained and made to sleep
White women wear black to get back, we’re all insane, you know where I am
Now we’re on the moon, and very soon to change the smile to gloom

The usual wrong word did it most days

Why do you make me do this
What is wrong with you
Forgive me

She would enjoy this one
The very last one

Bought you flowers
You know I love you

Do you

What the hell does that mean
What the hell

The drug would temporarily paralyse him
Enough time for her needs
He punched with his right fist
She cut off his arm
The odd kick with his right
She cut off his leg
He came round screaming
How you doing babe
You in pain
Don’t worry, it’ll pass

Ambulance, get me an ambulance

Say the word

Please, please

No, not that word
The other word, I love you, that one

I love you, ambulance, please please

Babe, why did you make me do this, forgive me
Just going to take the tourniquets  off
I’ll put them up here
If you get them, be quick
Remember to release them every fifteen minutes
Oh, one more thing
Love you babe.

He reckoned she was about seventeen
Tight young ******* fitted snugly into a tight young body
She stripped naked as the sea gently stroked the shore
He looked past her to the rocks five hundred metres to the left
That's where he would be
Perfect position for the perfect shot
She saw he was engrossed in her
Old enough to be her father
Wonder if he's getting excited
She would be the first to be shot
Life ended before it begun
He would have a chance
Silhouetted between the rocks
It would be a waiting game now
She glanced up to see if he was still watching her, he was
A nice feeling ran through her
He'd played this game many times before
Lasting hours, sometimes days
Death the ultimate price, always death
She didn't understand
She was willing him to her, letting him take what she was gladly giving
He tried to recall his own youth, nothing came
He was sure a naked young girl would be every boys dream
Now he just wanted a woman to hold tight
Just to be there
He glanced past her one more time
Slowly retreating using the rocks as a shield
The traffic began to build up as he reached the sanctuary he called home.

Someone must die tonight, no heaven will open

Still is the night, silence for my master
He of all supreme, the master of evil

No flowers ever seem to grow near it
Yet the sky opens giving it light

British people hate foreigners.
It’s nothing personal.
They’re just not British.
Brits go abroad to try the local cuisine, and get a heat.
This will last one day.
The second day they’ll put tomato sauce on everything that moves.
This includes the food they bring with them.
Brits abroad will search out the British pub.
This is called the Irish bar.
Brits will lie in the sun for twelve hours.
Suffering first degree burns.
Convinced the next day they’ll be golden brown.
Brits abroad are easily recognisable.
By the Manchester United strips they wear.
Though they don't actually live in Manchester.
Brits abroad dislike other Brits who live in the next town to them.
Brits abroad will give strangers their last penny, or kick the crap out of them.
Brits abroad will tell anybody listening.
Britain gave the world everything.
From the Steam engine, to the Beatles.
Plus winning two world wars.
Foreigners will shake their heads  in total disbelief and agreement.
Then think to themselves.
How the hell did they do it.
Dedicated to Lily and Vicki and the other nice foreigners on Hp who make poetry fun.

Strange the games we play when we walk away.
Yesterday the game was new.
Just me and you.
Now the honeymoon's through.
What do we do.
We walk away.
Then we say
It shouldn’t be this way
Love at first sight
Felt so right
Not anymore
As you open the door
Now the split is deep
The wounds begin to weep
The way back has gone
Now we sit upon
The memories that never were
Did we care
We play it out online
Your team against mine
So strange, is it really us
The couple on the bus
The future ahead
So rosy and red
Ten years later
A chance meet
In the street
We lie about life
Trouble and strife
Walk away
Without a care
Turn and wave
Pause
Two kids on the bus
Going all the way
All the way
To that future day
The day they would never see
Wasn’t to be
life was stronger than them both
As it always is.

Best Friends.
Gaffer Sep 2015
It was one of those days
Started with the shower
She wanted to join me
Which in any other day would’ve been great
But her best friend was sharing it sort of to speak
It was a sympathetic sort of share
Which was true
The wife did leave me on the Friday
To visit her mum
Coming back on the Monday
So technically she lied
Coming back on the Sunday
A good lawyer would pick up on this immediately
Granted, when I told her best friend she had left me
I maybe forgot to mention it was only for the weekend
Anyway, back to the problem at hand
The shower has packed in love
Okay sweet chops, I’ll be naked waiting for you
Right love, oh god don’t go into the bedroom
You *******
She went into the bedroom
So anyway, since it was Sunday, I popped out for the rolls and papers
He did this every Sunday the Lawyer explained
Two Police cars, sirens blaring flew up towards the house
So as the Judge stated, jailing her for 90 days, taking into account the mitigating circumstances in this sorry affair
Could have been a whole lot worse I suppose
So I was at a loose end, and a visit to the hospital was long overdue
Naturally I took the obligatory grapes and flowers
Technically she was still the wifes best friend
But my god, if you could’ve seen the venom coming out of that one good eye
I swear, if she could speak through that wired jaw
I would have got a right ear bashing
So i sat down on the bench eating my grapes, thinking
I do hope they two can put this behind them
Probably laugh about it in 83 days.

Gaffer Mar 2015
He bleeds, for he is weak
Tortured thoughts
He bleeds some more
Preaches to the mild
So reverent in their eyes
Looking down, he sermons
The cross is bearing
Impure thoughts
He bleeds some more
The thoughts get stronger
Penance for the soul
He touches his scars
Sacrificed for his lord
The prayers cleanse
He is pure
Gods chosen one
Standing before his flock
He sermons
They call to him
He sees her
The scars open.

Gaffer Aug 2015
Baby’s on the other side
Looking for a place to hide
Looking for that sad goodbye
The last attempt before she dies
Baby tried, but now she’s gone
Lying rotting, corpsed upon that journeys way
Baby left a letter, no regrets
Till the day we meet again
For now I’m waiting
Lost in souls.

Gaffer Jun 2015
I called you on the phone
But you were dead and all alone
Did you see my name
Are you playing a game
Don’t keep me hanging on

I called you on the phone
But you were dead and all alone
Is this a game
We’re not the same
Dont keep me hanging on

I called you on the phone
But you were dead and all alone
Don’t you understand
I’m a man
Don’t keep me hanging on.

I called you on the phone
But you were dead and all alone
You’ve crossed the line
For the final time
Don’t keep me hanging on.

I called you on the phone
But you were dead and all alone
They told me plain
You’re insane
She's hanging on the phone.

Gaffer Aug 2015
What’s so hard about the split
You take the house
I get Jack ****
You get the cat
I paid for that
Have the car
Take the boat
If it makes you happy
Build a moat
All this fuss about a fling
Didn’t mean a thing
Keep the bling
Psychological strain
Well yes, you have been a bit of a pain
Actually driving me insane
But don’t worry dear
I’ll take it like a man
Know you’ll understand
Take a pill
Chilax
Listen to the facts
I was weak
Seduced by the meek
Was really thinking of you
As you do
Lets start again
Bought you a ring
Just a little thing
To say i love you
Oh, can i borrow the car
Not going far
Probably won’t be back tonight
Hope that's alright.

Our Kelly.
Gaffer Jun 2016
She was just one hit away
Knew the score
Could stop it anytime
Unlike Kelly, stupid *****
******* needle sticking out of her arm
Christ, how many times
How many times did she tell her
She started selling her body
That’s when you know you’ve hit rock bottom
No way back when you start doing tricks
Told her straight
You’ll either get murdered
Or end up dead in a toilet
She knew best
She became a walking skeleton
Pitiful person who would do anything for a hit
It was only a matter of time now
She would inject anything
Till there was no where else in her body to inject
It was probably a release in the end
Her body just gave up
Kelly found her
The way she found her everyday
You look after your friends
That’s what you do.

Moon Walking.
Gaffer Mar 2017
The moon was at its brightest
Strange things happen with a full moon
The mad go insane
The insane go mad
She said the relationship would never last
I counted nineteen minutes on the clock
It’s your planetary status
Is it an earthling thing
No, not in the physical sense
Are we talking nuts and bolts here, me being the bolt
Yes you’ve got it, you’re not out there
When you say out there, are we talking moon walking
Not in the physical sense, more moon flying
What happened to your last boyfriend
I lost him in the ethos
Did you never think to look for him
No, once they go in, that’s it, you never see them again
Does the full moon affect you in any way
Yes, i shed my skin when the moon is full
Do you have to get naked for that. I mean can anyone join you
Only the soul searchers can join me. Are you a soul searcher.
A few more beers and i’ll be an extraterrestrial
Alas the wanting in you is waning, the star so bright now fades into the night
Is that a polite way of saying you’re dumped.
Not in the physical sense.
Oh i see, i’ve walked into the ethos. Should have seen that coming. Well it was nice knowing you for twenty five minutes. Definitely need a large drink now. Maybe pop into the shop on the way home. Pick up a milky way, maybe a mars bar too.

Black on good
Touches his manhood
Like a mother should
Thinks it should be in a museum
For God and good
Joey, dreamlike
Always plays it cool
Keeps a gun tucked
Fourteen carat
Sideways dude
Mississippi, likes the rap
Urban cowboy
Got a holster with a flap
Just call me Missi
With an I
The first to die
Deals going down
Going down good
Expansion is the mood
Big time round the bend
Not now but when
Time to ascend
Hit the new den
Death was quick for Missi
With an I
No fast draw
Urban cowboy
Shot in both eyes
Joey heard the scream
Through the dream
Pulled from the tuck
**** you all
Shot off his *****
Sideways fall
Black on good
Like a brother
Felt their pain
Shot trying to save
Respect
Got his final wish
Passed the Museum to his grave.

You are in charge of your weapon, always
The day the weapon takes charge of you, is the day we find you
The song plays in his head
The barrel spins, click
He wouldn’t die
The rope shook, but he wouldn’t die
He unloaded the magazine into his head
He done the decent thing
The song played in his head
The barrel spins, click
Images started to appear
He wouldn’t sleep
The house was the fortress now
The song played in his head
The barrel spins, click
The long rope hung in the air
He watched him walk away, smiling, inviting him
Destiny
The song played in his head
The barrel spins
The song plays into the distance.

It all came crashing down around us
Someone had to fire the first shot
He wasn’t happy
You killed him, that’s all wrong
The first shot is always a warning, it’s war etiquette
So strange, mother would have loved him, he had manners
God, she would say, you eat like an animal, use your knife and fork
Football mum, need to rush, big game today, come and watch us, it’s life and death
They wanted our piece of the hill
We wanted their piece of the hill
Rush, rush, take the hill, how many bullets can you ****
He wants to talk to them, Mr etiquette
You would be proud of him mum
So polite
They shot him like a dog
Rush, rush, take the hill, how many bullets can you ****
We killed them all
It’s now our hill
Did you see me mum, did you see me score
Were you too busy with your other son..

She looked at the cup on the sink
The solitary cup
Like it was the most important thing in the world
She saw a man, full of promises
She saw another man, devastated
The promises didn’t last
Forgiveness begged
The door closing
Reality
She grabbed the cup
Smashing it into pieces
She gazed at the scene
Fascinated
Every piece representing her life
She started to laugh
Uncontrollably
Anyone watching, thinking
Great joke,
They would be right
She thought to herself.

The burden of it all
Not like the old days when life was easy
We had it all
Now it’s all responsibility
Work and sleep
Do you know something
I can't remember the last time I saw you naked
Can’t remember the last time we had fun
Why don't we have a weekend away
What do you say
Life's too short to work it all away
What do you say
Let's just do it
Get away
It really is peaceful here
You choose well
Brought your favourite flowers
If I’m not too busy
I’ll pop back next week
Clean your headstone
Maybe the week after
Too much on next week
Do you know
Someday I’m just going to give it up
This is no kind of life
Can’t remember the last time I saw you
Did we have fun
That weekend
You went away
I was working.

In bed, she was cold towards him.

Ten years of that was waiting for you to get ready.
She didn’t laugh.
What i’m trying to say is, it’s over.
You’re not getting ready ever again.
In a way, yes.
Should i be celebrating this news.
It will be a new start for both of us.
Okay i’ve just realised, this is a serious conversation.
Yes i’m ending the marriage.
That’s a bit final, are you eloping with the milkman.
I just don’t want to be married anymore.
Is this when i ask, is there anybody else involved.
There’s no one else involved, i just don’t want to be married anymore.
You don’t fancy popping back every Sunday and making your famous steak pie.
Maybe every fourth Sunday.
What about the odd Saturday night *** session.
Don’t you fancy someone new.
No, i don’t think i’ve got another fifteen years to break someone new in
What if i find someone new.
Well i suppose you could invite him round for Sunday lunch, but i draw the line at the Saturday night *** session.
You are okay about me leaving.
Well i’m not completely happy about it, you do have this knack of knowing where everything is.
You could just phone me and ask.
Do you really want me phoning you twenty times a day.
I’m sure you’ll get used to it.
Is this what we call tough love.
I don’t want it to be, i was hoping you would say good luck.
In a way i am, but i’m still trying to negotiate you staying.
I think you know my mind is made up.
I know, but i had to try.

He’s ******* somebody else
They come together
Just different worlds apart

Together apart
Apart together

She scratches her name deep inside him
He penetrates her mind
Mind blowing
Just different worlds apart

She bares all
He caresses deep inside
But not deep enough
Not right into her soul

She screams injustice
He pulls away
Naked and pleading
Just different worlds apart

She dresses for the final time
He walks away
She goes back to him
They come together.

I was going over all the mistakes I’ve made in my life.
There’s been a few.
Though, I have now boiled it down to one point in my life.
The wedding.
There was only one option.
In hindsight, there really should have been three.
Do you take this woman on a six month contract.
I do, seems like a good deal all round for both parties.
Do you take this woman on a need to know basis.
I do, one just never knows what’s lurking behind women these days.
Do you take this woman till a better one comes along.
I do, this is definitely the best option.
I now pronounce you duly contracted.

The Dark Days.
Gaffer Oct 2015
He saw her through the dark days
It took time
But time was all he had
The battle, he was  winning
He could plan the future
Small steps
But steps nonetheless
They would walk, talk
He wouldn’t rush
The critical time would come
The second breakdown
He would be ready
Had to be
The pouring of grief trickling,
Flowing quicker,
Then the torrent
It was hell on earth
Described like an exorcism
She would sleep now
He could relax
Regain his thoughts
Plan the next step
He was in a positive mood
He went to check on her
No sign
His heart began to beat faster
Logic was lost
Run and search
Not panicking, but panicking
Blind panic now
Tears were flowing
In his mind he saw it
Dismissed it
Find her, keep searching
She was gone, he knew
Hated himself
He sat down in despair
She was watching him
Trying to take his pain
Reassure him
Take the burden away
It would take time
But time was all she had now
She was released
The pain had gone.

Turns around, and says that she’s not sure anymore
Sometimes things go wrong
People change

If only you could see
Hiding in the dark won’t bring us back
It only causes pain
Something that will always remain
It’s better that you go now
Turn another corner
Change your name
Nothing stays the same
Tears for yesterday will still remain
But tomorrow will ease the pain.

Gaffer May 2015
The night disturbed her

She looked around

A faint light inside the wardrobe caught her eye

She was drawn to it

Maybe the reflection off the street lights

She heard the voice

Raindrops in her mind

Pleading, don’t **** me

Please, don’t **** me

She awoke screaming

The same dream, night after night.

The thought haunted her at dusk

The piercing pain

The soothing voice of the nurse

Hurt so bad, she wanted to die

A part of her was gone

Her reflection shattered

Pieces too small to put back together

The nagging loneliness

The choking guilt

Rivers running down her face

Mum, why do I see myself in a dream

You don’t, you see your sister

She’s  eleven minutes younger than you

She  died within hours after birth.
