you say
is a word
someone
somewhere
sometime
at the right time
could have
said
and has probably said
before

All of this
means nothing
the grandeur
the opulence
the pride
if we are both dead
inside

there was nothing
and in that nothing
I realised
we could be everything

when there was nothing but money
to make
we made it
when there was no love to lose
we lost it
when there was no game to play
we played it
when there was nothing to say
we talked anyway

There’s a whole lot of nothing
happening in this house

for sure

too?

There is nothing here
I haven’t seen before
Nothing above me
Beneath me
Nothing that tore
There is nothing here
that could ever
even up the score

I love you
means nothing
if it’s written
in sand
too close to the shore.

I have too many words
running riot  inside my head
they spill out
unintentionally
at party’s
dinners
and soirées
offend the great
seal my fate.

I joined
a poetry club today
then quickly realised
they were not interested
in anything I had to
say
and more  importantly
in my world
that’s okay .

Perhaps
my soul
is too old
to be sold?

Hold my hand
before we get too old

I got home
still full of your smile
its been a while
that’s true
but now at least
I know
we can walk
another
mile
together

They sat and warmed
their hands
on the dying embers
of a marriage
that once burned
out of control
huge orange flames
of laughter
that touched the sky
and touched
their souls.

She is old now
And says things she doesn’t mean
Although I remember when she was younger
And said things that were mean
She is old now
And calls me late at night,
Although I remember when she was younger
And scared me with her might
She is old now
And tells me she loves me
Although I remember when she was younger
and said no one would ever love me

I still believe
somewhere
very deep on the inside
of you
lives the someone
I once knew

I know I see things
differently
I live in a paler shade
of grey
where it’s not quite so important
what you have to say

We have a little strand of
paradise
fragile
silvery
beautiful
rare
barely ours
hardly touch it
don’t strain
do not breath
or it will surely
break
into tiny fragments
of what our paradise
was supposed to
be

We still have
a small chance
a window, if you will
to be
the kind of family
we always wanted
to be
that we should be
but the clock
is ticking
and ticking
and ticking
so loudly
it is beginning  to silence
the decent and real
tiny parts of me

There is
just a little too much talk in this room
random words
escaping from well formed empty
lips
vacuous thoughts
escaping and taking form
causing laughter
but not reform
there is
just a little too much empty
frivolity
in this room

if I lived
in a wide and expansive
field of cherries
I would wade out
walk the field
cut the cud
stay out all night
until I found
my friend laurence
there are bunches of cherries
everywhere
but , come on
let me be honest
Laurence's
are a little bit more
rare

the snow
always made a movie
of your life
viewed from your
absolutely
perfect house
until the snow
slowly
turned
into rain.

and perhaps  you do
but
I know the meaning of love
the crying out loud of love.
the desperate despair of love
the doubt of love
the reaching out of love
the pure joy of  love
the desperation of love
the don’t do this of love
the endless hope of love
the not feeling all right of love
the wonder if this is love
the question of can this be love
the sadness of love
the screaming out of love
the tears of love
the pure joy of love
the I can’t do this anymore of love
the right of love
the wrong of love
the me in love
I know the meaning of love
I know you say

and perhaps you do.

My heart is in my pocket
I keep it there
It’s almost safe
But there are pick pockets
Everywhere
On every street
At ever turn
They are quick
They are sleek
They steal hearts
with slight of hand
And magic dust
Then disappear
And leave you
heartless
And torn
battle weary
And worn

These are little pieces
in the real world
fragments that
have become undone
if you reach to touch them
they will disappear
like smoke upon touch
the little pieces
that today
seem so much

You dug deep
into the heart of me
to find your gold
then claiming your treasure
laughed out loud
and sailed away.

I have no plan
neither do you
at our age
everyone has a plan
it’s  the least we can do
to prove
it was worth
the laughter and the pain
and yet
we have no plan
what’s going on
tricky to explain
for god’s  sake
someone
anyone
make a ****** plan!
