tries to sleep
then realises

if by chance
I never make another friend
for the rest of my life
I think I’m okay  with that
I think maybe
you are enough friend
for the best of my life.

If I had two thousand words
with which to describe you
I would ask for two hundred
to lessen my task
and still flounder
let me use two instead
uniquely beautiful.

This wasn’t a win

it was a distant and silent view

it was exhausting and harrow

trying to find your truth
I am exhausted
pointing out the truth
in between

asleep

I had to listen
a little harder

reigning droplets

I ponder both questions

somewhere
hopefully from a

in all honesty
it’s murky
but if I move slightly
to the right
and squint my eyes
I think

slightly a
a bit too much
to the right.

Do you recall when love was lost?
not too sure myself
that country weekend with friends
comes to mind
we left the lovely pub to walk home
everyone was jolly
the route was dark but not for the first time
to the idilic cottage
with the lamps on
just before we went in you said

have I forgotten something
I’m missing something
for sure
were you missing her
I was.

In all honesty
so far
in my life
I have at least
spoken
two billion words
that were
untrue
how about you?

When you said
you were sorry
I thought
you meant it

I have had a missing person alert
out for you
for most of my life
so don’t show up all shiny
this late
without a decent
excuse

Are we just
two people
who have given up
on each other ?

There is a whole village
waiting for your return
and within that village
a whole family
praying that you burn

words drip
easily
like melted ice
from my lips
drown
the words
I am so desperately
trying
to say.

I wanted to write
just
one word
for you
I thought
that might
prove
the depth of
my love
but
I can’t .

I think you know me
more than I know me
so I’m going to let you
do all the talking

She rarely left her own mind
