I sat here tonight
and had dinner
with three of them.

I know I throw words at you
like stones
they reign heavy upon your head
they are formed in my heavily bruised brain
fuelled by my pain
dissolved by your love

Let’s pretend
no one ever broke our hearts
Let’s draw a line under yesterday
and wake up anew
with just me
and you.

The best of you
bleeds effortlessly
into the worst of me
so that I wake up
refreshed
relaxed
resultant
resilient
and free.

Will you take any of your bad back
or shall I just bury it
deep inside my head
and forget.

Can any one of us
write words that
truly
mean anything
to someone else
or are we destined to
only write words
selfishly
for ourselves

I’ve got a ride to
somewhere
probably end up being
nowhere
still I’ve got a ride to
somewhere
could talk the driver into
one more passenger?

Do you remember when
we didn’t care
when we said
we would face life
head on
when we laughed at pain
when we didn’t explain
when we picked up the pieces
without complain
when we liked our life
without looking for fame

Someone once told me
a poem should be long
rhythm and thyme
and take a long time
so love and regret
pain and explain
delete and blame
repeat and destain
let go and restrain
sunsets and more
two people or four
fall down then soar
sweetness and gore
does this really say more
than
I love you
whatever the score!

The flames are climbing high now
out of control
they are burning our life down
we stand
paralysed by their power
and not a one around us
invested enough
to pass a bucket of water

Tell me how
to do better
as me
I promise
I will listen

You live on hallowed ground
he said
I know
I said
wouldn’t you like to live there
too

The winds are gale force
hold the line
and I will too

Does
forever
sound
like us?

Your hand slipped
from mine
when you were fifteen
our grasp was weak
today it is
within
reach

New York City
never scared me
it just asked
a little too much
of me

like tiny shards of broken glass
it will pierce  my heart
eventually

I will forget my words for tonight
the heavy in my heart
for at least one night

barefoot
although it feels like broken glass

He was fully grown
I was half way there
He had the world
in the palm of his hand
I was still playing with
sand

There is nothing bad
between us now  
all the bad has
been spilled from us
upon this  floor
gathered up
and flown away
by birds of prey
leaving us
lightheaded
and wanting
neigh

I remember
that deep New Jersey
December snow
my burden was too heavy to carry
I tried to lay it down
as we
trudged thru the snow
pick up your feet
you said
we have a long way to go .

Do not lie too far away
from me
because lies
like ties
can strangle you

‘Read this’ I said
it’s so good
I don’t have time for poetry, Mum’
she said
I choose to dance instead.’

You took on the big world
while you were such a  small girl
you are still here
the big world lost
You won!

yesterday
join us
celebrate
today

Winter drips
from your lips
cold words
frozen and bold
ice now owns your eyes
stagnant
staring
uncaring

I still believe
somewhere
very deep on the inside
of you
lives the someone
I once knew

If I had two thousand words
with which to describe you
I would ask for two hundred
to lessen my task
and still flounder
let me use two instead
uniquely beautiful.

There is a slight cry in your voice
when you say
that you love me
is that about
love
or doubt
or just not being sure enough
of what we are
all about

This is a love
that needs
no words

My fingertips
tell me
how much I miss
human touch

If I have been untrue
please know
it had nothing whatsoever
to do with you
it was all about me
absolutely nothing
whatsoever
to do with
You

Maybe you found me
just to show me
how good I could be
or
to give me a reason
to not be
so much like me

Because of you
my head held high

I learned how to
fly

I loved you
way before I met you
I still love you
way after you
walked away and

If someone almost

a gentle nudge

I think the thought
and feel the thought
