Skeletons in your closet
Are tearing ligaments
On tectonic plates
Now we’re in balance
Just don’t dance on the tightrope
Asking questions walking on coals
1000 degrees and rising

Never going back
To the 802
No WiFi
All hippies
  mom and pop
Art shops and coffee houses

There was  nothing to do on the weekends
So I’d sit by my stream
Smoke cigarettes
  And allow my mind to
Flow freely
As water

At 14 greenwood lane
Revisiting
high-school days

Others Mental illnesses
And 8 month winters
Might as well’ve lived in Canada

At 14 Greenwood lane
Revisiting high school days

Ken burns movie
Staring us
Glorified PR flex
At least we had
Something to do
Finally

At 14 Greenwood Lane
Revisiting high school days

Vermont’s a *******

I never wanted
To feel so connected
But you’ve got me by the ***** now
And I feel bad
I almost regret the moments we had

Why’d you give me your #
Kiss me goodbye
Left me asking why
Should I try
If you said the only issue was age

38x24
38x24
38x24
38x24

Just goes to show
You can’t ever trust a shrink
Professionally
Or in any scenario

******* to *****
******* pointless
What?  We’re only human

What a weak excuse
For infidelity
Self serving *******
Should be put on trial

Think for yourself
Be yourself
Act naturally
Think for yourself
Be yourself
Act naturally

I guess you like
The thrill
I guess you have no chill
Why put yourself through
The ringer
Just to get too attached
For a brief moment

Think for yourself
Be yourself
Act naturally
Think for yourself
Be yourself
Act naturally

If only I had
Dropped that line
You would still be alive
I should've have taken that dive
But I didn't

Words escape me
As I try to save the memories
But nostalgia and regret cloud my vision
In blessed derision

And after everything
The curtains close
But the that memory remains
Aftershock bites
But the memory still remains

death
by socialization
call it government inoculation
degradation
Indoctrination
propaganda machines
curteousy of those in power
but existed long before
and was created, perpetuated, and spread
by the people
who create images, write rights
to ‘right’ the writs written
and adopted by politicians whose personality
was created and nurtured by you and I
and by them and us
we created politicians
bolstored their success
now we are reaping the
dissatisfaction of what we created
we ****** up
This is no longer an issue of partisan politics
we must all change our ways

Her lips hymn hymns of beauty
Your knees become weak
made of porcelain
You shatter in awe
Excuse me miss
Says you
Muffled are your words
Stay a while
I’ll buy you a drink

She agrees with you softly
Her shyness unarmed you
She says

“ what are you trying to do”
“ Nothing”
“*******”
She kisses you

“I don’t tease”
She says
I hold my breath

“Lady
Your hair shines like a picturesque twilight
To what do I owe the honor
May I charm you tonight?”

“ sure, my name is Amber
My blue eyes don’t damper
For I know my tears are
Drowned in the bottle”

“ But in you i sense a companion, a lover and a mate, please pay my check
We must go it’s late”

“ Amber...”

“ mustn’t you worry angel”

I close my eyes to only awaken from
This dream
John Dewberry Feb 2021
Henceforth a decree
Of solidarity between those who
Aren’t on the fringes of politics
To unite against extremes on both sides

Calling to arms
For a common goal of unity
It’ll take you and me
Marxists won’t make three
Let’s agree conservatively
To pursue the defense of our union
Liberally
Without succumbing to the extremes
We’ve learned nothing from the Soviet collapse?
We’ve learned nothing from the Nazis or the KKK?
History starts by learning objectively
And destiny isn’t pre-determined

So sorry scholar
Go on and holler
Take to trial
The victim of a horse collar
Tackle and dare that individual
To think and you’ve created your own monster
Why is your worst hell someone who can think for themselves?

I’ll never understand.
John Dewberry May 2019
Nobody’s a saint
Except for preachers
Of course
They’ve never done any wrong

From
Sinners saints and reprobates
Those who practice chastisty
Celabites
Degenerates
Everyone casts a shadow

Angels have demons
I’ve got a few
skeletons in my closet
They’re naked and self-conscious
I’m nothing special
Just finding my way
John Dewberry Oct 2019
A trite topic
By another name
I think I called her Rose
Maybe it was Brittany
Anything to distract myself
From the problem
This ain’t a game
No ones to blame

This won’t be another song about you
No, this won’t be another song about you

Breaking up
To keep together
Reuniting and breaking again
Same old story
No new allegory
All fate is
Without glory

This won’t be another song about you
No, this won’t be another song about you

My thoughts
On T.H.OT.S.
Are as follows
**** em’
( figuratively)
Their way of thinking
Is played out
To them, subconsciously
I’m not about that life
But I can tell you
That it’s gonna be
A long night
Cause I’m not aiming to
make any friends here

The after party
Behind the scenes
I’ll pay for your Uber
To get you out
Of my face
I’m single and anti-groupie

You say I’m cynical
Your actions are cyclical
music comes first
Your intentions are questioned
you get offended
I’m getting reprimanded
But it’s par for the course
At this point

The after party
Behind the scenes
I’ll pay for your Uber
To get you out
Of my face
I’m single and anti-groupie
I never wanted the fame
I count the times
That I’ve been sorry
And for you
I’m not wasting guilt
Best of wishes
As you move on
To the next one

The after party
Behind the scenes
I’ll pay for your Uber
To get you out
Of my face
I’m single and anti-groupie
I never wanted the fame
John Dewberry May 2019
Looking in the mirror
I see my reflection
“Lonely as I am, together we cry”
As I turn around
I saw you walk to that battlefield
That so many days were wasted upon
It’s hard to look at the needle that caused pain
To the sieve  that triggered the end of so many lives
“Lonely as I am, together we cry”
The world is cold
Almost like a cryogenic fridge
We freeze with the good
And let in the rage of the masses
As it keeps growing
On our shoulders we vye with the solution to
Unify don’t deny
That if you try
To conquer that trail of tears
You cried
The choir will sing that last cacophonous note
And we sing the final notes
“Lonely as I am, together we cry”
John Dewberry May 2019
Whatcha know
About chastity
I don’t need a belt to
Be loyal
Feel royal
love  ain’t gotta be
A battle royale

Everyone’s an attention *****
Publicity is adored
I abhore your BS
Get away from
My doorstep
My patience
Has a threshold
That you’ve crossed

I ain’t *******
For a ******* dime
If you wanted a mime
Here’s a rhyme instead
I won’t wish you dead
I’m not that petty
I live practicing abstinence and chastity
For many reasons
Chief among them the fact that’s it’s more  of a challenge when compared to sleeping with someone. Secondly, the challenge of living such a lifestyle pays off, mostly because it’s harder to get yourself broken  when you don’t open yourself up to false and momentary since of connection.
John Dewberry May 2019
I haven’t been to church
In a while
I pray at the pub
With redheads Jameson and
Fish n chips

I haven’t been to church in a while
But who really cares
I’ve got nothing to confess
Cause everyone’s a sinner

I go to the matinee
On Saturday
Repping the IRA
I go to Essex on Sunday
And get rained on
I go home
And my hag of a wife is gone
She moved across the pond
With a bloke
Who works on wall street
John Dewberry Feb 2020
Heat
Mustered from the brow
To please the gods
Expression at its finest
The flame illuminates
The passion of the soul
While simultaneously
Stabilizing the feisty  and **** nature
Of the mind.

Smoke evaporates
Into the sky
Now we wait for communication
If clouds part the smoke, peace will return
If smog thickens
We pray for forgiveness
All year until the solar eclipse

Beauty has a name
no need for  fame
Just a dame
Of unparalleled intricacy

Catch the nuances
In a jar
And save them  from later
If you forget a single thing
You’ll be ******

Trust me when i say
Every words a note
If you stagger or faulter
You’ll begin to drown

Beauty has a name
no need for  fame
Just a dame
Of unparalleled intricacy

A hangovers
A confession
Of the night before
But I live without regret
( live without regret)

Philosophers say
We ebb and flow
According to
Certain principles
(And moral standards)

I’m young
and Intelligent
I just play the
Fallout boy
  I’m innocent
Till proven otherwise
Leave me
Alone

Go your own way
Here I’ll stay
I’m a loner
I don’t need anyone
Right or wrong
I’ll never know
Until I use
Best judgement

Bye bye bye
Your style of music has died
And girls are awry
For the  ******* that is Beiber
Who's music is in the style
Of your classic songs

Bi-buy-bye
Cold- old- scold
You can't start a brand new mold
Ya'll are an an ear-sore
And the chances that you'll never score big
Like you did before

Your music not from the backstreets boy
Your voice is artificially so that  your music is onl in sync
Your style is not new
You’re the 2nd generation of boys who aren’t men
Your lyrical ‘spears’ are choppy sin
John Dewberry Sep 2019
Tell them a story
Use allegory
Wrapped up in culture
Tell them a story
With a moral
thatll  make them seek
The truth for themselves

Their truth
Ain’t my truth
My truth
Ain’t your truth
Your truth
Ain’t their truth

There’s only one universal truth
But many ways to find it
I haven’t found it yet
No one  has

But I do know this
Whatever it is
We may not wanna now
For I’d we did
Our world would singular
And boring
Life’s about chasing
Not catching
John Dewberry May 2019
Surrogate Country
our politics resemble
The human centipede
Dying respect
Hostility from
Both sides
The people divide amongst each other
It’s not
The politicians fault

Ashe to Ashe
Dust to dust
In God we trust
In blind faith we rust
I’m a punk
Singing  rock and jazz
Railing against everyone
With a political placebo
Or a  falsly repleted libido

This country I love
These dumb *****
I ******* loathe
I start loving
When their words
and conversations
Don’t have an agenda

You can take my life
But I’ll die bleeding every
Inch, word, and ounce
Of my integrity

Blaire the blonde
And Brandy the brunette
Trying to settle an arbitrary cliche
Something that started eons ago won't be ending today
Brandy will get you drunk
Off of ***
Blaire will trick you into loving her (blonds are smarter than often credited)
Blaire is the tonic that put brandy out of business
Yet Blaire is broke
Brandy's boyfriend sold coke
And Brandy consulted Blaire
As a sister whom she adored
Blair gave her some shifty advice
(“******* is caffeine, morphine of high, buy it don't abuse it like I know you will or your surely die”) Brandy decided to sell herself to the streets and became an escort
Blair died of old age alone and homeless
So the moral of the story is that of Robin Hood in reverse When you go over a traverse it's smarter to make stupid decisions some of the time

When in doubt go with red
Inspired by the old L’Oréal commercials. They’re so bad— but I have two sisters so I had no choice but to be exposed to these ads.

I waited
For your call
Like autumn waits for your rain
When it rung, there was poor reception
How profane
John Dewberry Sep 2019
No puedo querer
Más que tú
Mi esperanza de opio
Y una niña contenta
Mi traición sería dejar que quiera que vaya
Corazones hacer y ver
Corazones hacer y ver
Usted tiene la clave para mí
Completamente
Hasta mi último día
Lamento me come como estoy gritando para ser lanzado
Mi mente llena de tristeza , escribe un lamento de epifanía
¡Mierda!
¿He jodido ... Otra vez, yo prometo ganar su amor de nuevo con sinceridad infinita

Whoever craves modesty
Indefinitely
Shall be completely lost
When the quarantine ends

The stir-crazy
Lonely
And the otherwise social
Will be compensated
For this purgatory
We had no hand in causing

We now just bide our time
And wait for the quarantine to end
And the cages to rust
John Dewberry Jun 2019
Eggshells crack
In the mirror
While you’re searching
For yourself
The floor is paved
With gold and laved
And hot sulfur
Will you vie

Turning away
Isn’t the worst thing you could do
Growth and perseverance force you
To stay true

Are you loving life
Through the pain and strife
As your dancing with your personality
Don’t mind your shadow
Laughing
While your waltzing with
Your demons

Who said
Life was easy
They’re full of ****
But I promise you
The struggles worth it!

Burning ties
Changing tides
And nullifying
Ebb and flow
Don’t be afraid
To fight the currents
Or status quo

BE YOU!
Are you loving life
Through the pain and strife
As your dancing with your personality
Mind you not
That your shadows laughing
While you’re waltzing with
Your demons

Denial
Is the wine you drink
When youre hungover
From reality

Denial is the ******
We indulge in
When we feel we’ve lost
Ourselves

Denial is the hemorrhoid of
Emotions
Sore to feel
When real
Impossible to heal
Without the suppository

Dirrty, Feisty, and Ready
Dirrty, Feisty, and Ready
Dirrty, Feisty, and Ready
Dirrty, Feisty, and Ready

Well
We’re young
Pretty dumb
Truly free
We have no shame
And
We’re loose
From the noose
Of expectation
Shooting pool
Skinny dipping in the pool
Smoking drinking
Living in the moment

Dirrty Feisty and Ready (x8)

We’re having fun
Don’t need no one
But us
There’s no better time
Than now
And no better place than here

We’re only human
We’re only human
We’re only human
We’re only human
So why not let let loose

Repeat chorus
John Dewberry Oct 2019
We won’t be sullen
We won’t be lame
We’ll be together
Waltzing with a bottle

I don’t hate the world
I just hate its state

I don’t hate the world
I like watching it turn

You can learn so much from observing
The more you drink the more wise you’ll be
Just remember: keep your mouth shut.

He sits at the bar
Lamenting his fall
From grace
Scars on his mind
Support his honesty

He tells of Black Daffodil
And nights on the sunset strip
recounting in detail
The glory days

“Everyone knew my name”
He said
“ when I meant my press agent
my career went to ****”

“Curses
To all who who’ve ****** me
I may be free
But I’m living my life as
Someone’s prison *****”

Don’t you feel gratified
In the safety of your thoughts
Utopia exists
As a mode of escapism
What was is now what is
And what will always be us

Divided we stand
Independently falling
In unison
A nation destroyed
By its own people

Give them drugs
To ease the pain
Give them love
To numb the pain
Revolution
To fulfill the fallacy of nirvana
And a coupon
For better ideas
I’m just now realizing that this reads like a love letter to the 60’s in a way— this more of a critique of my generation
John Dewberry Sep 2019
I’m with him
Despite his lack of morale
I’m with her
Despite corruption and false pretense
I’m with you
Despite our difference
We can work together
To be more open
And less divisive

Can’t fight the fact
That opinions aren’t universal
That humankind
Talks out of its ***
That everyone’s their own
Prison *****
I can’t be a loner
Apparently we all need
to socialize
What if we
Could work together
Resemble harmony
Without striving for perfection
With reason and rhyme
What a brighter paradigm
That would be

But it’s impossible
Because we still don’t
Understand
The difference between

Being right doing right
Everyone’s so obsessed
With being on top
When unbeknownst to them
They’re ******* themselves

I don’t have
All the answers
I’m no genius
I’m human
And ask

When did
Human  nature
Become an algorithm
That we can’t crack

We make rubble out of statues
And pain out of “ love”
I wish I wasn’t a cynic
Our nations
Starting to die so young

It’s not the left or the right
controlling us tonight
It’s us (without a doubt)
Why can’t we see

That we are the people
And we’re stronger as one
But we elect  the vote that sends us
Straight to hell

What if it were different
And we could compromise
I know that
That’ll  never happen
Emotions are to codified
And solidified by either side
Without justification

We just ebb and flow (x16)
John Dewberry May 2019
Words imprisoned
Inside of my brain
Uttering anechoic and pusillanimous
Conclusions of logical thinking
The ineptitude of my mind
To process at your speed
Has been assuaged by my poetic seed
It's the ****
The feeling of the pen in my hand
Those anechoic messages become strands of understanding
John Dewberry Sep 2019
Donkeys cry
Elephants cry
This game of losers
Never ends
The dream
We call American
Became superficial
Growth comes at a cost
We must work
And earn accordingly
Can’t afford a token
Or pass
To immigrants or natives
Who believe it as their birthright
To call what elders
Worked so hard to build as our own
But not do anything to preserve it
John Dewberry Sep 2019
A PSA:
Everyone’s full of ****
We just call it as we see
Agenda
Conversational propaganda
You can’t convince me otherwise
You aren’t  they
They aren’t me
And you aren’t I

The eyes that see all
Blend the moiety
Of the woke
And these are our ‘leaders’
The ones you call
Sagacious

Thought leaders
Research and retread
Old thought
Convert it to binary
Tweeting in shorthand
To a generation ******
For their lack of thinking
They’ve convinced the youth that

1+1= 2
Only when it’s their truth
1+1=2
No, 1+1=you
John Dewberry May 2019
Everything reflects
Everything reflects

Life is taken seriously
But we can’t be too cynical
Politics, media institutions
At points are hysterical
But how is it we’ve become so jaded
The laws we follow only reflect our ethics
But erhics wrent fully right

What about the human makes us complete?
Emotions?
Control?
Balence?
Understanding?

Easier terms and vanacular
Exist to
Reenvigorate
The spirt that we all understand
The spirt of connection
And the mastery of unity through compromise

The exploration and advancement of fallacy has gone on for too long
John Dewberry Jun 2020
The jurors eyes
Are blind to the facts
The executioner
Sits and laughs
Judging minds
Sewed an inevitable  relapse

Missing you
Is missing a part of me
Finding you
Is taxing but love ain’t free
Hoping solace’s found

8 years on
Memories not gone
It’s alive and well
A bittersweet swell
Of emotions raise the question

Why aren’t you
Fading behind the rain
The seas of hearty pain
Behind blue eyes
They strain
Cant you fade behind the rain

Finality
Is only the beginning
Playing life
Will always cause you
To lose
John Dewberry May 2019
She wanted more
Was I so wrong?
Was she right?
Her image is still visible... But it's fading behind the rain

Time will only tell
That it's been too long
I sit here and write these songs
But her image is fading behind the rain

Behind the rain
Behind the rain
Strange droplets of water... Is it my memory
Behind the fading rain

What do  I long for?
I don't really know
Hopefully it doesn't show itself
Behind the fading rain

Blaire I

What was it what a I missing what time is ******* away the chances we had. now you're gone along the way and I can't let you go. You'll always be my everything no matter who i fall in love with because you Blaire were my first love.

Fiona

I haven’t seen you in years
I could wait a bit longer
But  I feel that
Something in my life is missing
Maybe it’s you
Maybe it’s me missing myself
I’m fixated on why
I’m still thinking about this

Gotta let it go

Reminiscing
on childhood days
Schoolyard plays
The jealousy
I had
So long ago has dissipated
Still, my feelings haven’t gone
Despite my best efforts

I don’t mind being alone
It’s made me stronger
Anyway, How are you doing
Today after all this time
I’m still the same as I was 15 years ago

I never changed
rI guess I grew up
Marginally
I’m slightly smarter
And a tad more witty
Yet I’m still
as insecure as before

Oh, Fiona

All the energy I’ve wasted
Trying to forget
I should just reach out
This isn’t obsession yet
But I fear that’ll develop

Eventually

I don’t mind being alone
It’s made me stronger
Anyway, How are you doing
Today after all this time
I’m still the same as I was 15 years ago
John Dewberry May 2019
Flowers, promise and punishment
Divided by walls of mind
Infiltrated by transgressions  of our heart and soul
Kiss the lips that you thought you loved
Misleading feelings and false euphoria
Combine to create a deadly resolution
Revenge in the most psychologically damaging ways
Are merely a means to the end for the ‘games’ we play
Love will run after you

Relax
Chill
Let the rush of everyday life go

Don’t you feel relief

Let’s talk about faults
For a moment or two
Cause we’ve all got a few
Yes it’s true

It’s about hiding
Putting up a front
As if we’re infallible
But we’re

Flammable
Ticking time bombs
Don’t strike a nerve
Sensitive
We ain’t much for
Literacy
Cause we’re Hard to read

Sometimes I wonder
If it’s healthy
To forgo romantic interest
To preserve a strong ever blooming friendship?

The moments I can get you off my mind
The moments are short
But I can unwind

I wonder if I talk too much
You always respond
And talk
But you never engage
And you’re far from the shy type

Both of us are self-identifying loners
Maybe over-thinking is my plight
Hindsight’s 20/20
Patience is a virtue

I wonder if it’s a good idea to test myself
And let weeks pass without talking to
See what ( if anything) happens

Busy is the way to be
So busy I’ll be
I’ve no right to feel these feelings
So quickly

I loved you
But love is a dissipating wave
Crashing on the
Tide of dreams
Behind blue eyes
I had goals
And aspirations
And it’s no ones fault
We lost connection
Along the way

Hell has a place in your heart
That you run to
For security
But my assurance
That it’ll be alright
Wasn’t enough insurance for you
John Dewberry May 2019
Hell has waterfalls?
I never knew that hell had waterfalls scanning from the world above
This is where love goes when we die as our souls wither in purgatory- the ultimate punishment for our lives- lived that served as portraits of
Endless contradiction despite fun times
I never knew hell had waterfalls until I was standing amid the myriads of broken hearts looking at me from their nooses. Blue eyes hide the fire inside- pain redefined through a hearts apartheid- waterfalls separate the fiery tide as a tornado brews above and we try to hide

I  never knew hell had waterfalls... Till I meditated under one- pressure- release the lethal syringes from your gun and send the anesthetic to my heart so that I don't feel any more pain.
I never knew Hell had waterfalls until today
John Dewberry Sep 2019
As I walk through the mall
At the foot of l.A
I took to the side
Trying to keep my homies at bay
Because
I need to start a trend at school
So the even the jocks will be looking like tools
You better watch your reputation
I really dislike trippin
But a gotta though
Cause target and hot topic are out-dated
Like Weird Al’s flow
But I don't disrespect
Cause you're not a threat
Soon you and your clique will be the back  of the pack
We've been spending most our lives
Living in a hipster's paradise
We all buy hot topic products at half price
Living in a hipster's paradise
We all wear designer shoes
Living in a hipster's paradise
We're all sleep twelve then press snooze
Here in a hipster's paradise

We all look alike
So no one can tell
We're a nation of fools with nothing to sell
Our clothes be all Ralph Lauren or Adidas
We all eat the fat snacks symbolized by cheetahs
We all eat fast food
Then answer to China
Nothings  ever different can't you see
We've created hipster's paradise
Ruining you and me

Dear Lord
**** the trends
I'm begging you please
Or we'll all be bound to follow
On our knees

I will not
Hide my shame
I cannot
Mend your scars
I will not
Actively ignore
Or discard

My hatred
For what we’ve become
Give me the gun
I’ll shoot the flag in half
And sew it back together

We can
Not blame the hate
On the other side
If we
Don’t look at ourselves
(And) Realize
That we’re all to blame
(We’re all to blame)
No ones
A special snowflake

Flames of the end shine endlessly
We’re all to blame to blame

I hate
Everyone equally
It’s not about gender or race
I hate myself too
At times I feel like

We romanticize the hell we create
No ones
accepting responsibility
Blame left, blame right
We never looked inward
To realize  that we’re part of the issue

Ours isn’t ours
Mine isn’t yours
Theirs isn’t I’s
And everybodies a victim of themselves
Grow the **** up
And accept the fate
Of the world has pre determined
We live and grow
Die and appreciated for the memories we leave behind
My generation is one swine
Lead on by the parents
Who draw incorrect and far fetched parallels of Peeceived ****** or Socialism

Only we the people
Can make America great again
Turn inward
And realize that by voting
We actively contribute to our perpetual demise
Lawyer, businessman, and politicians don’t fix anything

We’ve done this to ourselves
