the sky
was painted
last night

in the west
it was pink
and blue
and gold
like the sun

in the east
it was grey
and cloudy
and angry
like me

the sunlight pierced
these storm-cloud eyes
blinding me

the sun slipped
below the horizon
like a lover
under bed sheets
fleetingly bright
then gone

the sky
was painted
last night

a van gogh
a starry night
at eternity's gate

with lightning
thunder
and stormclouds
blowing west
to cover the sky
