As she chooses the flowers to decorate her bun
She chooses the petals, she thinks the best
She has to choose….
What would you do if you have two difficult choices to make?
What if both choices were equally important?
Whether to just ignore your people and lead your own life?
Or …to follow your dad’s footsteps and lead the country?
It was hidden in Aung San Suu Kyi’s life
She only had two choices to make and she finally made her choice
But she was kept in her house all alone
by the cruel Burmese military for so many years
But she still chose to save her people’s life
And made her father and ancestors proud
She is happy with her choice
Not because she was caught by the military
It is because she is one brave lady
The lady Aung San Suu Kyi has made the choice of her life,

Dear State Counsellor.

Once I saw you as an icon of morality.
A bastion of hope.
A ‘dancing peacock’ in a troubled world.
Some called you the ‘midwife of democracy’.
Others an ‘Oxford housewife’,
a peacock ready to show its eyes.

But now….

The Children, babies, women and men of the Rohingya
are butchered, ***** and murdered by your
soldiers as you read poetry to children.

And the rest of the world stands by waiting for
the Norwegians to take away your Nobel Peace Prize.
Another sense of justice, lost again.

The working hands of the Muslim men in Rakhine
are tied by the Buddhists, the lovers of peace.

Their guns gleaming and your army standing by.

“It wasn’t us” say the Generals
“It was the Buddhists”.

But of course we have seen this before.
At Srebrenica, Nanking, My Lai and Auschwitz,
until the gas came.

And the world stands by.
Another failure, another genocide.

Now, as your military load the death carts
and bury mothers next to their children.
The Buddhists place flowers on the mass graves.
And I call for you and your ‘men’
to be accountable for those burnt by the sun.

sinusunog na mga bahay,
sinasamsam ang mga ari-arian,
sinasaktan pati ang mga bata,
ginagahasa ang mga babae,
at pinapatay ang mga lalake.
ganito araw-araw ang kanilang sinasapit,
hindi sa kamay ng mga tulisan o rebelde,

kundi ang estado at militar ang pasimuno.

pagkat gusto nilang maubos ang mga Rohingya.
hindi daw sila taga Burma,
latak daw sila ng mga Arabong dayo,
kaya kailangan na sila'y malipol.
walang magawa si Aung San Suu Kyi,
pati s'ya hawak sa leeg ng militar.
walang ginagawa ang Amerika at UN,
palibhasa wala silang mapapala sa mahirap na bansa.
isa na naman ba itong Rwanda,
o katulad sa Gaza?
walang gustong tumulong sa kanilang walang pakinabang.
maramot ang saklolo sa mga madaling maloko,
hindi kinakalinga ng langit ang mga tunay na api at kapos palad,
sapagkat ang mata ng kasaysayan ay nakatuon lagi sa Europa
at sa mga bansang masagana.

in all directions, the slogan of hyenas
will be heard only.

Going to the shade of Bodhi Tree,
I asked Gautama Buddha,
'By tasting which poisonous fruit,
your disciples have become insane
and have been involved in massacre
in Myanmar? '

Hanging his head, said Gautama, 'Darkness.'

Going to Bethlehem, I asked Jesus Christ,
'By drinking which grape-juice,
your disciples have become insane
and have been involved in massacre in Mosul,
Baghdad and Syria singing of democracy? '

Hanging his head, said Jesus, 'Darkness.'

Going to the holy home of Moses,
I bowed down my head and said, 'Would you
tell me, by eating which Manna and Salwa
your disciples have become insane
and have been involved in killing children
and women in holy Palestine? '

Hanging his head, said Moses, 'Darkness.'

Going to Mathura city, I said to Lord Krishna,
'Please tell me, by eating which food
offering to deity, your disciples have become
insane and have been involved in massacre
in Kashmir, Delhi and Gujarat? '

Again the days of darkness have descended on earth.
I have been searching Abdul-Muttalib's son
Abdullah's house in Pharaoh's city—
in such a thick darkness, no doubt,
the Sun of the desert had risen
in the lap of Amina!

the peoples of her land

how can a bird that is born for joy
sit in a cage and sing
this proposition

the Burmese people elected
Aung San Suu Kyi
to lead them with
a government of democracy
her message
though stifled
still bought joy
to many in her land
her voice had been
silenced by a coupe
the strains of freedom
were ingrained
in her words
