Eleven thousand years weighted heavy on his soul
The ancestor spirits keeping touch with the boy
As a protector, a stronger, of a world so cold
An angel by all rights, hidden far from his home
A runaway by nature, wanting to see better things
Paradise forever wasn't among his list of dreams
Wings open, eyes wide, casting out across the Earth
Hands would touch soil of bases, second, first
Each new sight, discovery of a different life
Imagining how he'd nurture, or maybe even fight
A strong athlete, a great warrior, or a guiding light
No possibility could escape his grasp, his sight
The stories in these books and movies brought him hope
Maybe one day, he could aspire to become a greater proof
That his life is a journey, a story to be told
But for now, he'll cradle fables deep inside his room

I need you
To tell me it’s okay. I’m allergic to hay and scarecrows do their job.
Get me high, cheer me up. Let’s go on a trip.
Show me around munchkin town and their residents might lead us to the wizard. We might get stuck in a blizzard but I’ll refuse to let that cold, white powder outshine my shoes. See, I’m done with the blues. You can tickle my sore, ruby red feet. Force out of me a fluttering laugh. We’ll go somewhere over the rainbow and back. Sing me a song and I’ll try to follow along
This yellow brick road.
Pass up each rest stop but you can take me to gift shops. You can buy me a stuffed lion. Unless you’d rather the zoo. I did always need a little spontaneity to live courageously.
But who cares?
I do. Because if I only had a brain, I’d think to grease up my tin friend and give him my… a heart.
There’s a start!
I don’t wanna stop this groove in my heart… I mean… my ruby shoes, but life isn’t all emerald castles, chimney tops, and lemon drops. Over the rainbow there is no *** of gold and behind the green curtain there’s no all-seeing wizard.
Only a selfish leprechaun who sees no further than his own lashes.
Even if you cannot shape your life as you want it,
at least try this
as much as you can; do not debase it
in excessive contact with the world,
in the excessive movements and talk.

Do not debase it by taking it,
dragging it often and exposing it
to the daily folly
of relationships and associations,
until it becomes burdensome as an alien life.

My head knocks against the stars.
My feet are on the hilltops.
My finger-tips are in the valleys and shores of
     universal life.
Down in the sounding foam of primal things I
reach my hands and play with pebbles of
     destiny.
I have been to hell and back many times.
I know all about heaven, for I have talked with God.
I dabble in the blood and guts of the terrible.
I know the passionate seizure of beauty
And the marvelous rebellion of man at all signs
     reading "Keep Off."

My name is Truth and I am the most elusive captive
     in the universe.

Coffee and cigarettes. Barbecues and ball games
An unordinary lifestyle. Is this the aim?

Doing 9 to 5's and friday nights with friends
Eating, being merry, drinking away weekends.

Routine is good. Routine is healthy.
This is the right thing. This is becoming wealthy.

Financial success. A roof over our head.
Three well balanced meals and an inviting bed.

A partner to care for and who cares for you.
So grow up, you dreamer. Get over your post grad blues.

Drink

I got to find me a drink.
It’s been fighting my gut for quite some time now.
I got to find me a drink.
I can feel it clawing up my throat.
I got to find me a drink.
It’s too soon, but it’s rattling my voice box.
I got to find me a drink.
It’s begging to be released.
Shouted.
Absorbed.
I got to find me a drink.
I can feel it creeping along my tongue.
I got to find me a drink.
Every day, it crashes against the back of my teeth.
I got to find me a drink.
I’m not thirsty.
I’m choking.
& Lord knows, love never goes down easy.

Tell me how you can love such a heathen.
Tell me how you look into my eyes and ignore the demons.
Tell me how these chiseled horns hidden by my hairline are irrelevant.
You speak of love, but tell me what you can tell of it.
Tell me how I have proved myself worthy.
Make a believer out of me and at least act like you heard me.

I'm everything to you,
And you're everything to me,
But if you strip me down to the core,
I swear you'll hate what you see.

I am human.
I will die one day.
But on my way, I will achieve greatness.

I am human.
I am fragile.
So try not to break me.

I am human.
I act and lie better than any other creature on the planet.
So if you want to know me, you will have to destroy my many masks first.

I am human.
And humans are dumb.
All of us are.

I am human.
I don't know what love means.
I hope one day I do, but in the meantime, I love you.

I am human.
I make mistakes everyday.
But I am still alive.

I am human.
I am probably broken.
Help me.

I am human.
I respond only to those who respond to me.
I am not your female dog.

I am human.
Respect me.
I will respect you.

I am human.
I don't know much.
But one certainty in life is chocolate's beauty.

I am human.
I am still growing.
And yet I am already dying.

I am human.
Who am I?
I do not know.

I am human.
What am I?
I AM HUMAN.
