Time for the sadness to find an end
Time for the hateful words to hush
Time for the wounded to find a balm
Time for universal love to blush

Time to find abandoned paths
And travel on them once again
Time to lend a helping hand
And plant new courage deep within

Time to act when there’s a need
To be the person who steps out
To bridge the rivers yawning wide
With cataracts of fear and doubt.

Time for the star that glowed one night
O’er the hills of little Bethlehem
To work a magic in our souls
Eliminating “us and them”

Time to bathe in gentleness
And soak in honesty
Time to set the world alight
With all the things that ought to be.

Faceless morning winter moon
My walking makes you wander
Kiss the treetops as you pass
Bright disk above the branches

Twisted heart and sap unite
Throughout the veins of every tree
Damp leaves lay lifeless on the path
All but dust in this perpetual world

Perhaps a little part of me lies broken
In amongst the trees, behind the falling
Fading moon that promised everything
Too soon against the brightening sky

I have always travelled headfirst.
As an aeroplane child, I lent forward
with my arms outstretched, humming.
Later, I perfected the same trick
without any hint of movement or sound.
I arrive awkwardly in conversations,
my head bursting through thin walls
unexpectedly like a jack-in-the-box.

Whilst queueing, I argue with the people
in front, indignant that they are only
ahead by some mishap of time or space.
I am a gargoyle, forever watching,
cursing all the decent people
as they file beneath me. I contort
in public for I am a private person.
Love has eluded me, until now.

When I'm asked, "Would you like a seat?",
I will reply, "Parallel lines never intersect."
To be aloof, takes practice and hard work.
"Pierrot, you must be exhausted!" is a
common refrain, but only from old people, young people seldom give
insights without provocation.

As a baby, I was doused in talcum powder.
My inner fire extinguished, I was deemed
ready for a neutered life. When it is dark,
I stand quite still, like a mannequin.
I live only for the attention of strangers.

Here May You See the Tyrant

And live to be the show and gaze o’ th’ time.
We’ll have thee, as our rarer monsters are,
Painted upon a pole, and underwrit
“Here may you see the tyrant.”

                                        -Macbeth V.viii.28-31

Once upon a time he strutted across the stage
Peering into a cauldron presented to him
And stirring it about for a viler taste
Soul-sickness for sale from a poisoned chalice

But now he lurks in his dime-store Dunsinane
Conjuring magic baubles that do not exist
Comic-book ikons of himself for sale
To sucker the intellectually innocent

He cannot admit that his life was a lie
A non-fungible token to its end
Mr. Trump and his NFTs
Would that thou in flowers walk
Uttering the talk you talk?
Had thou seen the setting sun
Knowing dreams had just begun?
Would thou,in this speck of time,
Not admit thy mood sublime?

Setting a Cat Among the Pigeons

After two months
I filed a complaint with the insurance company
After four months
I filed a complaint with the state insurance board

Neither the cat nor the pigeons are much moved
Except to disapprove of me for noticing

That nothing much has moved

Why Should I Always Fly with a Tennis Ball?

The ad is served like a tennis ball
Across the net and just out of bounds
A tennis ball wouldn’t hog the armrest
But I’d much rather travel with a friend

You, perhaps, if you bring along a book
Or maybe a crossword, but not a video game
We could look up from the page and ask
The attendant for a *** of tea for two

Traveling with you would be ever so grand
Because
A tennis ball could never hold your hand
