Childhood
Veena Aneev Jan 2016
Long long ago
I saw, experienced, I lived
Where trees grow

Long, long ago
I went, I ran, I swam
Searching high and low

Long, Long ago
I laughed, I wept, I loved
When the time was slow

Long long ago
—I know—
It was long long ago

Wish Factory
Veena Aneev Jan 2015
God is like a wish factory

Manufacturing...
Dolls and trains for the young ones
Blankets and food for the poor
Glasses and hearing aids for the impaired
and hope for all of us

But like trains, blankets and glasses
          God is man-made
                Reflection of our idealistic nature
A goal as fictitious as a wish factory

Oddies
Veena Aneev Jun 2014
Shave your head
Paint your face purple
And wear a zebra jumpsuit

Eat with both hands
Wink at passing strangers
And live in a secluded cabin

Join the circle of oddies
Tainted by social norm

Water
Veena Aneev May 2014
Like a camel, we persist and endure
Underneath the blazing desert sun
Seeking our oasis in the distance
A noteworthy medicine
Finer than caffeine and alcohol
The purest form of life

People Talk
Veena Aneev Apr 2014
At a formal dinner party with etiquette and laughter
A half empty glass of champagne is in your hand

I listen to your slurred speech and deep laughter
And look at the others who genuinely display interest

While nodding my head with a fake smile
I make eye contact occasionally, a simple formality

As you talk about yourself and your experiences
I begin to wonder...

Wouldn't it be more interesting
for me to talk about myself?
Most people love to talk about themselves. You know who you are.

Room
Veena Aneev Apr 2014
Hand-me-down novels with bent corners

Piles of clothes and towels scattered on the carpet

Food stains on flowery bed sheets and blue pillowcases

A broken lamp on a single night stand

Gray suitcases filled with evening gowns

Closet mirror covered with fingerprints

Charging electronics underneath the bed

Popcorn ceiling and smooth beige walls

No clocks, no monsters, no tooth fairies, and no memories

It's rather....*practical

Hands of a Clock
Veena Aneev Mar 2014
Clocks witness it all...

From the *time
you were bullied
To the painstaking times of your depression

All these sensitive moments
are in the hands of a clock
Hope you like the word play in the end

Skin and bones (12w)
Veena Aneev Mar 2014
I'm skin and bones
real and tangible
or perhaps a prolonged reverie
Sometimes you wonder if the whole world is just a dream.

Chains of society-Haiku #2
Veena Aneev Mar 2014
Breaking the chains

Of society's madness

We attempt to live
If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.

Deception
Veena Aneev Mar 2014
When I see a person laugh...

smiling from ear to ear

hands on their chest

and tears in their eyes

while gasping for breath

I think it's *fake

Welcome to America
Veena Aneev Mar 2014
Welcome to America
     Where education is top priority
                   With the exception of football

Welcome to America
Where we believe in world peace
We also believe in the biggest military in the world

Welcome to America
Where all men and women are created equal
But being gay is the greatest sin

Welcome to America
Where we like to make fun of everybody
                 Just don't call us fat

Welcome to America
Where we love our food so much
We've managed to make it fake

Welcome to our great patriotic country of America
We might as well be the only country in the world
Seriously, if it wasn't for us, the nazis would still be in power

My Love...
Veena Aneev Mar 2014
If I had a rose for every time you've broken my heart and driven me insane

I would build you a bed of roses
                   and a pillowcase of leaves

And every night as the flowers began to wither and lose its luster

I would build you a new one
a bed as timeless and delicate as you

Again, my love, you've managed to break my heart

Veena Aneev Feb 2014
Again I look back
For the man who never comes
Because he's up there.
