Beautiful colors of
Passion light my dark soul

Voices come from everywhere
Can you hear them
They are calling
They are crying
They need to be heard

Of a farmer working in the field
I am the voice
Of one sick and ill
I am the voice
Singing a song
I am the voice
Just humming along

The voice of the people
The voice of a nation
Sing with joy
Or moaning with dread
Raise your voice
Let it be heard

Say a prayer
Bang a drum
Say AMEN

It chose me

When the world needed a voice
I was chosen
When the lost and hurting
Needed to cry out
I was chosen

Like my brother and sister poets before me
I speak for those without a voice
I comfort the hurting
I bring joy to the sad

Doesn't mean I am dumb
Doesn't mean I am stupid
I can communicate
Just in a way
Different than you

Just because I can't speak
You don't need to give me pitty
No need feeling sorry for me
My hands do my talking for me
My pen and paper
Sometimes join the conversation
I can read lips to
So even though I can't speak
I am not lost to the world
