what is this that grips my senses
its magic grasp inveigling,
the mauves, the reds, as blood of ******,
as fairest ****** beguiling

depths of salmon orange,
the deepest, velvet pinks,
bid me pay them homage
as Pharaoh to his Sphinx

i gaze in heartfelt wonder
and touch her deepest secrets,
scented lightning, silent thunder,
quenching soul with her streamlets

of ever transient virility
of flower of fertility,
her arrows o' Cupidian agility
blushing unashamed fecundity

words cannot paint your beauty,
or describe eternal mystery,
they cannot do their duty
unlock thine vernal divinity

first stanza original:
what magic is this that grips my senses
in its grasp beguiling
the mauves, the reds, as blood of ******,
as fairest virgins smiling

horn-rimmed spectacles would fit her well,
a wide-eyed owl surveying tree dell,
scanning everything from her perch,
watching the battle-field, ready to lurch

with still glance, as priest with bell,
all and sundry, she seeks to quell,
with tongue as whip to flail and scourge,
all else besmear, purge and smirch

if she berates, she'll make it clear,
her will is paramount, just quake in fear
from the rooftop she seeks applause
and will rejoice in finding flaws

bumptious 'n pushy, she rules her cell,
hers is paradise, all others, hell,
if you're lucky, you may carry her verge,
and at her bequest, sing her dirge

We live off reflected reality
see ourselves in others' eyes,
our own idea of normality
sculptured by others' lies

which are in turn formed off back
of others' destroyed dreams,
all combine to hack and hack
at life's immortal stream

surround yourself with unstained glass,
of type not backed by metal,
that lets eternal light flow past
to nourish your soul's petals

by those who yearn to cultivate
the best in you and me,
those who live to set us straight
on path of G-d's country

avoid your own solipsism,
expand your own horizons,
embrace the joyful optimism
of others on their islands

hold their hand and see beyond
confines of life's upsets,
stand up tall and jump the pond
to race till gold sunset.

One ray brightens a thousand mirrors,
One sun lights a thousand lights,
One sea feeds a thousand rivers,
One bad 'un makes thousand blight.

One kind word illuminates world,
As lighthouse, or banner, newly unfurled,
One mean word or palaver
Drapes the universe in balaclava.

One good deed begets another,
and that other has a brother,
and so the goodness will multiply
to rid the world of sorrow 'n sigh

Let's quench our own selfish nature
By realising we're all G-d's creation
let everyone be humanity's saviour
before we cause our own cessation

swirling down the drain,
seconds, minutes, hours,
wasted, good champagne,
petals o' brightest flowers

waiting for the crowds
the cheer of rousing rally
wraps up life in shrouds
as I dilly-dally

an angel and a devil
chanced upon a star
said latter 'i'll be on the level'
[it really was bizarre]

"it's time we got together
to pool our creative resource,
no, it's not some silly blether,
we've got immortal force"

"let's make a guy of us combined,
he'll be driven silly,
we'll run him out of soul and mind
from here to Piccadilly"

"ok, i'm game", said angel fair,
"Let me taste your ware",
and from that all too brief affair
was born this Voltaire

up and down and turn around
i'm being driven dizzy,
either to hell or heaven bound,
it's making my hair turn frizzy.

a word has no colour
yet word includes all,
from pale, pasty pallor
to garish, gaudy shawl

a word ignites in soul
the image of creator,
it's all within control
of poet, the dictator
