Surreal

Sometimes life seems surreal
That it’s not real
When I look back
I can’t believe my age
Have I really lived this long?
Where did the years go
They just flew by
In an instant
Yet I remember things
As if they just happened
Deep inside I still feel like me
Even if I don’t look the same
My hopes are still there
So are my dreams
Yet I am at the last third of my journey Instead of the beginning
How did that happen
Is this all a dream
So I will wake up some day
If not, I need to get busy

Yet I remember things as if they just happened

Yet I am at the last third or so of my journey now instead of the beginning
How did that happen
Is this all a dream and I will wake up some day

These days
It’s all about survival
We are in the fight of our lives
It’s war
But different
This hasn’t happened in a hundred years
We had hoped it was ending
With the coming of a vaccine
But alas it’s not
The enemy has changed
Making it harder to beat
It’s not just in one place
Or with one people
It’s everywhere
For some
It’s between life and death
It’s an uneasy time
There’s been so much unknown
And a lot of suffering

It’s a matter of survival
I am a survivor
Many of us are
From the few  last years or so
We have battle scars
From fear, loss, illness
Overall stress from the times
But, we are still here
Still standing
Broken perhaps
But we made it through
To the other side
Though so many did not
Such loss and pain
The war is not over yet
It’s still going on
Quietly
In so many places
The danger is still there
Lurking
Muted only by vaccines
For that we are grateful
Yet we must remain vigilant
More battles may be coming
Yet we have made it to this point
We are survivors
We too are warriors
I am thankful
I am a survivor
Many of us are
From the last year or so
We have battle scars

Sweet moments
Those small moments
Sometimes fleeting
Make life worth living
They can pass quickly
Touching our hearts
Touching our souls
Hard to hold onto
Delicate
Somewhat fragile
Like a butterfly

Sweet moments
Make lasting memories
Taste like honey
Decorating our days and nights
Brightening our lives

Put them together
They form a life

Is more than a city
It is a feeling
It is a place one goes to feel magic
A place that touches ones heart and never leaves
A place to go and touch history
and a place to marvel at all that is there
A place that dances like a gentle muse
Whether one fancies monuments like the Eiffel Tower or just a quiet walk down a street
Or sitting by the Seine
It is all special and sublime
But perhaps the most special thing  is to be there when it rains
To watch the people moving to and fro while the rain gently washes the city while sipping a cup of coffee in a local cafe
That’s Paris
Is more than a city
It is a feeling
It is a place one goes to feel magic
A place that touches ones heart and never leaves
A place to go and touch history
and a place to marvel at all that is there

It is that time of year again
Smells of pine trees
Doors decorated with wreaths
Ornaments glistening as they are hung
Beautiful bright colors
Red, silver , gold , green and blue
Gorgeous garlands
Candy canes and goodies
Houses adorned with lights
Cookies being baked
Hot apple cider and hot chocolate
Choirs singing familiar songs
People running to and fro
Looking for the perfect gift
Shoppers online
Children visiting Santa
Cities and towns decorated
Friends and families coming  together
It’s that time of year
It’s that time of year when
Candy canes appear
Silver tinsel glimmers on trees
Wreaths are hung

It’s that time of year when

Precious ornaments are taken out
Beautiful ribbons tie up packages

It’s that time of year when

Carols are sung
Churches put on their Sunday best
Joy and cheer are felt
Kindness abounds

It’s that time of year when

Smiles are brighter
Laughs heartier
Love is deeper
People care and hug more

It’s that time of year when
Towns and cities decorate
Snow lightly blankets the ground
The world slows down just a bit

It’s that time of year
It is that time of year again
Smells of fur trees
Doors decorated with wreaths
Ornaments glistening as they are hung
Visions of tinsel

Beautiful bright colors of red, silver , gold , green and blue

It’s that time of year

Houses adorned in lights
Cookies being baked
Gingerbread men being decorated
Choirs singing songs

It’s that time of year

People running to and fro
Cities and towns decorated in their holiday best

It’s that time of year

Friends and families come together to celebrate the season
It’s the holiday

That time of year
She comes from far away
She traveled many miles
She was seeking something
She had lost many years before

She’s the Americania

She took a risk
To go where she found him
After so many years apart with total silence

She’s the Americania

She never forgot him
Nor what they had together
It was very special
He had reached into her heart

She’s the Americania

She’s found a new life
In a new land
Learning her way slowly
Bit by bit
It takes time

She’s the Americania

Every day she goes out
To explore and to write
Part of her day now
Becoming a writer and poet

She’s the Americania

She came just for him
Didn’t matter where
She was willing to try
Because she believed
In the impossible dream

She’s the Americania
They walk among us
They have always been here
They are the ancient ones
Teachers
They are everywhere
They are part of the earth
Quiet
Listening
Watching
Protecting
They are of the spirit
More than the body
Their faces reflect light
They have seen things
Back to the beginning
Of all things
They understand
Our purpose
They carry peace
Harmony
In their hearts

Bliss

You walk through the entrance of a cave.  At the end of the darkness is a small pool of water. The water is warm, but not too warm, the temperature is perfect and is a beautiful deep turquoise. Some areas are lighter colored than others. You slowly walk into the water and stand in the middle of the water. As you stand there, a waterfall starts to genre pour over you from above. Rays of bright golden light from an opening above the cave start shining making the water sparkle like diamonds.

There is a feeling of total peace and serenity

Bliss

She was well known
Everyone had heard of her
All over the world
Her works were second to none
No other artist could top her
The definition of her pieces
The colors and detail
The choices she made in expression
She was truly the best
She had been around forever
Perhaps since the beginning
Her works were priceless
They were all unique
She was able to touch everything
And everyone

Sitting at the bakery

Getting a cup of coffee

Ingesting the smell

Sitting in the bakery
It was a perfect day on the island
It was miles away from the main city
To get there one had to ride the ferry for an hour across the blue waters
The sand on the beach was white and fine to the touch like fine silk
The water at times was turquoise

The beach was little lined with large umbrellas stuck in the sand
They were numerous colors and multi colored
People were sitting under them watching the waves
The waves pounded the shore breaking with bright white foam

The air was warm but not hot with a slight breeze soothing to the touch

Palm trees swayed to the breeze their leaves glistening in the sun
As the sun hit the ocean the surface looked like a million diamonds

Children were running up and down the beach laughing and playing games while parents kept a watchful eye

A man pushed an ice cream cart down the beach selling ice cream treats

A mother and her daughter played in the waves
The daughter eventually sitting in the water letting the waves run over her

It was a perfect day in every way

Every one was grateful for the perfect day and a little slice of heaven
She was staying at the beach
Her room looked out on the boardwalk
The beach was beautiful
White sand
Turquoise water
Warm sun but not too hot
When the sun hit the water the reflection looked like shimmering diamonds

One night after dinner she sat on a bench
Facing the ocean
Watching the moon and sea do their dance together
The moon shone brightly down on the waves
Highlighting the white tips of the waves
As the moon continued to shine
The water seemed to move in an almost hypnotic way
Getting stronger and stronger
Drawing her to it

She was entranced
She could not pull herself away
Though time passed and it was time to go
She watched the dance of the moon and the sea as they spun their magic together
The sand on the beach was light pink in color and was fine to the touch
The water at times was a brilliant turquoise blue

The beach was lined with large umbrellas stuck in the sand at an angle
They were numerous colors and some were multi colored
They painted the beach as a work of art

People were sitting under them watching the waves through their sunglasses or basked in the sun seeking the perfect tan

The waves pounded the shore breaking with luminous white foam as they reached the shore

The air was warm but not hot with a slight breeze soothing to the skin
A hint of salt wafted through with each breeze which was refreshing

It was another hypnotic day at the beach
I am slowly coming back from the brink
The edge we get pushed to by illness
It felt like being hit by a two by four
It’s a place where we may not feel ourselves
Where we may feel subhuman
The things we used to do become hard to do
Every nuance in our bodies gets serious attention
Wondering what does it mean?
We wait hoping, following doctors orders, our bodies to finally turn the corner
It’s a slow process
Sometimes two steps forward and one step back
It’s frustrating
Then one day, things seem to be turning around, though slowly
You begin to feel more like yourself
Energy starts to return
Appetite increases
It’s almost like you can feel the healing going on
It’s like magic

Finally, you step back from the brink into the light
You are becoming well
He was a beautiful monarch butterfly
Unique in some ways
He had bright colored orange and black wings decorated
With an intricate pattern

He was always alone
Visiting flowers near where he lived
He never ventured too far

One day he noticed a beautiful blue butterfly close by
He had never seen such a thing
Its color was stunning to him
He flew over to it to ask where it was from

She said she had came a long ways away from the south down by Brazil
She told him there were many more just like her there

The monarch butterfly found the answer incredible
He could not believe it

The blue butterfly told him that he can go anywhere in the world at anytime if he wants

She told him that a group of butterflies would be traveling north the next day and that he was welcome to join them

Early the next morning as the sun began to rise, off in the distance, a large flock of butterflies could be seen flying north
They looked beautiful against the light of the rising sun

One of them was the monarch butterfly

One of them was the monarch butterfly
It’s is an early fall day
The sun is out
The sky is a bright blue
There are a few clouds scattered across the sky
There is a slight breeze -- not too warm, not too cold — just right
The trees are dressed with their fall colors
You are sitting in a field of tall grasses
The grass is a light beige color
The grass sways gently to the breeze and makes a soft rustling sound as it moves
As you sit down in the field
A cloud of butterflies surround you
They are all colors -- purple, blue, yellow, red, gold and green
As you put out your hands, several light onto your hand before flying away

You close your eyes and take in the moment
You are at peace
It was a warm summers day
The sky was a bright blue
He was walking in a field of grasses
Some flowers were around
All colors
Blues, reds, pink, yellow and orange
Amongst them were butterflies
Going around the flowers
Some larger and some smaller
Multi colored ones
As he walked he stopped to admire them
At one point a group of them surrounded him and flew around in a circle
They then left and flew away

As they left he continued to walk coming across a small pond
A heron was standing on the other side of it watching the small fish
He sat down on a wood log to watch
As he sat watching the bird lifted off and flew over the water diving down to catch a fish
When the bird lifted its head it had a fish in its mouth
It swallowed the fish and flew off

The man got up and continued to walk
He came to a forest of tall trees
They hovered over him like giants
He felt so small against them
As the light breeze blew they swayed back and forth ever so slightly
He was awed by their size and beauty

He continued to walk until he came across a small log cabin
It looked well made
There was smoke coming out of the chimney
He looked in the window but didn't see anyone
He knocked on the door but no one answered
Eventually he opened the door and went inside
He noticed soup cooking on the stove and fresh coffee in a ***

There was a living room to the side with a fire burning in the fireplace
A rug was in front of it with a comfortable couch and a rocking chair
No one was there

He noticed stairs leading up to another floor with rooms
While the cabin looked small from the outside it was quite large inside
He sat at the kitchen table for a while waiting to see if anyone came
When they didn't he decided to eat as he was hungry
He helped himself to some coffee and soup

When he was finished he cleaned up
He sat in the living room still waiting
No one came
It was getting late, too late to walk back
So he got ready for bed using the blanket by the couch
As he readied himself a cat appeared and lay down by the fire
By then he was sleepy craving sleep
He put his head down and fell into a deep sleep
The cat watched over him all night as if standing guard

When he woke in the early morning there was still no one there
After making some coffee and breakfast the man cleaned things up and got ready to leave

As he opened the front door to go out he noticed a note pinned to the door
The note had his name on it
He opened the note and read it
It said "welcome home" it has been a long time
The man couldn't believe it
The cabin was his
He was actually home after all this time
The beautiful black stallion lived on a ranch by the mountains
He was kept in a stable or corral when not being taken out for a ride by his owners
His coat was a thick black color like velvet
It shimmered in the sun
His mane was long and majestic
His face was kind with big brown eyes
When he ran his tail would bounce some from the movement
He was majestic

Every day he was taken out of the stable to the corral to feed and exercise
He would look beyond the fence towards the green pastures and beyond with longing
He wanted to be free
He felt like he was in a cage

Each day as he went through his routine running around the corral he imagined jumping over the fence and running free
He would even dream of it

One day he decided he couldn’t stay any longer and would have to try and escape
He felt like he so trapped
He was meant to run

He practiced running around and around in the corral going faster each time building up his strength

One night as he went to bed he decided the next day when no one was watching he would free himself
The next morning when he was put out into the corral he waited until everyone left

He then backed up by the fence and started running as fast as he could
His hooves hitting the ground hard with all his strength

He then jumped the fence and kept running towards the open range and mountains

Other horses saw him in the distance and joined him
They all ran fast and hard just for the joy of it
He was so happy
He was out of the cage

He was free

After so much time
With great storms and turbulence
Where people have been waiting such a long time
Things are slowly changing
A calm has come

After so much division and sour feelings
After so much pain and illness
Possibilities and hope have arrived
A calm has come

After heavy darkness
Light has shined through
It shines bright through the clouds
Bringing blue sky
Pushing the darkness away
A calm has come

After great sadness
Heavy hearts
Tears and angst
Joy has arrived
Life has gotten a bit better
Smiles starting to return
A calm has come

After people gave up
After too much stress
They want  to try again
To begin again
Together
A calm has come
After so much time
So much suffering
With great storms and turbulence
Where people have been waiting such a long time
Things are slowly changing
A calm has come
At least for now

After so much division and sour feelings
After so much pain and illness

She comes from the street
She’s orange and white
A ginger girl
She has a beautiful face
It’s hypnotic
She’s a mixed bag
Sometimes she’s sweet
Other times a bit crazy
Trust is hard for her
Her cries are soft and coaxing
She loves to play
She hangs around more now
But she also hits the street
Though she’s mellowed
She is still a bit wild
While she’s a bit different
There’s something about her
In her face is an innocence
That has captured me
The cat

You walk through the entrance of a cave
At the end of the darkness is a small pool of water
The water is warm, but not too warm
The temperature is just right
The color of the water is deep turquoise.
You start to walk into the water
The bottom of the pool is sandy
It’s smooth as silk
You pause and stand in the middle
Eventually you move
Towards the back of the pool
As you stand there
A waterfall starts to gently pour over you
From above
Rays of bright light start shining down
Making the water sparkle like diamonds
You are entranced
By the magic of the place
Never wanting to leave
I used to think that people and their feelings were like china plates
Beautiful
Unique
Fragile and delicate
Easily broken

When we are born
Our plates are flawless
No cracks or chips
They are new and perfect

As we go through life
They can get hurt
They get chips
And cracks
Sometimes they break
Or a piece breaks off

Life does that
The ups and downs
The good and the bad
Relationships can do that
Hearts can break
Bodies can get hurt or age
And our plates reflect it

Life is like a china plate
Delicate
Fragile in some ways
Something to always be treasured
We have a choice every day
How we will relate with people
And the world
We can be kind or unkind
We can bring light or darkness
The choice is ours
We own the after effects
Either positive or negative

If we focus on the positive
We can light up the world

Believe
We have a choice every day of how we will relate and engage with people and the world

We can be kind or unkind

We can bring light or darkness

The choice is ours and we own the after effects, either positive or negative

If we all do that we can light up the world

Believe
After the rain
When the sun shines
And the sky is blue
The city is cleaned
It looks anew
The plants are greener
Brighter

It’s as if Mother Nature
Gave the city a bath
Just as a mother would
Putting on new clothes
Making sure everything
Is as it should be
Cleansing
It's coming to that time of year again
When familiar sights, sounds and smells seep into the memory and the mind
Putting up the tree
Decorating
Scents of pine
Pies and cookies baking
Cards and letters being
When holiday lights and decorations appear
And holiday tunes are playing
Shoppers  crowding the streets, looking for the perfect gift
People take on the holiday hustle and bustle
Light snowflakes dance through the air to their own rhythm

Holiday memories make everything special
The Coming Holidays

It's coming to that time of year again
When familiar sights, sounds and smells seep into the memory and the mind
Putting up the tree
Decorating
Scents of pine
Pies and cookies baking
Cards and letters being
When holiday lights and decorations appear
And holiday tunes are playing
Shoppers  crowding the streets, looking for the perfect gift
People take on the holiday hustle and bustle
Light snowflakes dance through the air to their own rhythm

Holiday memories make everything special
Snow gently falling and blowing around like cotton candy strands
Eventually gently nesting on the ground or other surfaces
It is the coming of winter and the start a new season
Cold is easing its way into homes, bodies and open spaces
Taking the place of the warm heat of the summer
Temperatures dropping outside bringing a frigid feel
Nighttime chills and darkness befall the city as it gets ready ready to put
on its nightcap and pajamas for the sleep that is coming
