Hot burning days
Green palm trees trying to keep their green
Bright blue skies with no hint of white clouds
Steaming sidewalks
The signs of summer

Warm sultry breezes at night
Blow across my face
Gently seducing me
Black velvet night skies
Decorated with sparkling diamond stars
The signs of summer

Flowers and plants craving water
Reaching towards the light
Wind chimes churning in the breeze
Animals searching for a slice of shade
The signs of summer

Women dressed in light flowing dresses
Bright colors and patterns
Making them look like butterflies when they move
The signs of summer

Men wearing straw hats
Sunglasses
Light shirts
Linen pants with sandals
The signs of summer

Cool breezes coming late into the night offering a soothing touch to the sleeping
The signs of summer
It’s on its way
Longing for the cool
It is the beginning of October
Yet the heat keeps coming
Like an unwelcome visitor
That has overstayed

I am yearning for the feel
Of cool crisp air
Cleansing breezes against my face
Clear skies

I am missing the scents of fall
My body and spirit tire from the heat

I am longing for the cool
Crisp, fresh air
The need for a blanket or sweater

Perhaps tomorrow it will come
I am longing for the cool
They have held
While other things have weakened
They remained strong
Like a dam

While pushed and threatened
While others spun stories
Trying to change reality
They stood firm
Holding the rushing waters back
Waves frequently breaking  against their wall
Yet it held
Like a dam

The more water that came
The fiercer it was
They held
They stood firm
They did not buckle
Yet it held
Like a dam

While there was an onslaught
Day after day
Never stopping
They stood firm
Never bending
Like a dam

Strong
Unbending
Like a dam
A true warrior for justice

The nuances are ever so slight and almost hidden, just a slight difference, or way of being, perhaps even thinking or feeling. Sometimes it seems that they are not even there, invisible to the touch and senses.
From one familiar land to another that is somewhat familiar yet unfamiliar. There is a chemistry to a place, and a rhythm which one needs to fit into and the melody may not be exactly the same. Similar to an orchestra, one needs to find the right instrument and music to play.
The dance of the nuances can happen. Between people, between worlds, between almost anything.
What seemed so sure so many times before may seem unsure now. Steps feel a bit uneven as one moves out onto new terrain and unchartered territory. Like a baby bird gathering it’s courage to leave the nest.
But, through each step, learned and accustomed, the unfamiliar starts to become more familiar.
The music to the dance is one of patience, time and learning.
Sometimes when we are delayed
Or slowed down
In doing something
There’s is a reason
We may not know it
But there is
We shouldn’t fight it
Those pauses are for protection
To stop us
From doing something
Not really meant for us
Later on as we look back
We will see and understand
When you are delayed
Or stopped
Just become still
The universe is looking out for you
Always
Believe
Light up the world
With your own special light
Sometimes when we are delayed
Or slowed down
In doing something
There’s is a reason
We may not know it
But there is
We shouldn’t fight it
Those pauses are for protection
To stop us
From doing something

We will see and understand
When you are delayed
Or stopped
Just become still
The universe is looking out for you
Always
Believe
Light up the world
With your own special light
You are in the desert
You are kneeling
Your eyes are closed
You are all alone
The sun is out
It’s a bright day but not hot
It is quiet

The desert

It starts to rain
A translucent umbrella appears
It opens over you
It is bathed in light

The desert

As the rain falls
The water doesn’t touch you
It rolls off the umbrella
As it hits the ground it dries

The desert

You feel safe and calm
You know you are not alone
You are protected

The desert
Every few months
She disappears
She hides
Invisible
As if a ghost or spirit
She’s not part of anything
She’s something else
Unnoticed
Comes from a different world
A different place

She melds into surroundings
Becoming very quiet
Keeping to herself
No one pays attention
It’s better that way
More comfortable
She watches from afar
Every few months
She disappears
She hides
Invisible
As if a ghost or spirit

Don’t worry
You won’t see me
You won’t hear me
I am gone like the wind
Quietly quickly
Just a quiet wisp
I am part of the sky
I have spread my arms
Like a bird
To soar
Upward
Undetectable
A slight vapor remains
Perhaps a light mist
As if I never existed
I will be gone
Just gone
There is indescribable heaviness in the air
Darkness all around like a black velvet cape draped to block the sun
Lightness smothered by an oppressive dour feeling
The darkness and gray hang in the air like a winter coat
The air is stale, no freshness
The feeling of lightness is vacant
The air weighs on the back like an iron anchor
There is a feeling and clamoring for freedom and light
The doorway was full of white lights
It looked exotic
With long burgundy drapes
Darkness ahead
Green plants out on a terrace

The doorway was full of white lights
It looked exotic
With long burgundy drapes
Leading to a magical place
Faraway

The doorway was full of white lights
It looked exotic
With long burgundy drapes
There is indescribable heaviness
in the air
Darkness all around like a
black velvet cape draped
to block the sun
Lightness smothered by an oppressive dour feeling
The darkness and gray

The air is stale, no freshness
The feeling of lightness is vacant
The air weighs on the back like an iron anchor
There is a feeling and clamoring for freedom and light
Searching for one small glimmer
Of anything that lifts one up
Away from the heavy darkness
If only it would come
To rescue us
The Dream

It was dark outside-- almost a grey dark
There was a hint of mist in the air
I was in another country
Your country -- searching
For you
We had lost each other for a long time
We had been torn apart
Like Romeo and Juliet
I was trying to find you
I was told to come here
I was out in the country somewhere
I came upon a cave
Very large and dark
I entered it
And walked towards the back of it
There were shadows of flames dancing on the walls
The air was cool but dank
As I approached the fire I saw you sitting beside it
Wearing a brown fabric robe
After so long you were there
I couldn’t believe it
You did not speak
You held your hands by the fire
I asked you where you had been, how you were
Instead of answering
And in an instant you disappeared back into the night
All that remained was the remnants of the burning fire
I called out your name but you did not answer
Once again I was alone without you
It was dark outside-- almost a grey dark
There was a hint of mist in the air
I was in another country
Your country -- searching
For you
We had lost each other for some time
I was trying to find you
I was told to come here
I was out in the land somewhere
I came upon a cave
Very large and dark
I entered it
And walked towards the back
Shadows of flames danced on the walls
The air was cool
As I approached the fire I saw you sitting beside it
Wearing a brown fabric robe
After so long you were there

And in an instant you disappeared back into the night
All that remained was the remnants of the burning fire
I called out your name but you did not answer
Once again I was alone without you
It was dark outside-- almost grayish in color
There was a hint of mist in the air
I was in another country
Your country -- searching
For you
We had lost each other for some time
I was trying to find you
I was told to come here
I was out in the land somewhere
Then I came upon a cave
Very large and dark
Musty inside
I entered it
And walked towards the back
Shadows of flames danced on the walls
The air was cool
As I approached the fire I saw you sitting beside it
Wearing a brown fabric robe
After so long you were there
Before me
It was incredible
You did not speak
I asked where you had been, how you were
You did not answer
In an instant you disappeared
All that remained were the remnants of the burning fire
I called out your name desperately
Only silence answered me
Once again I was alone without you
Lost in my dreams
She bought it
Not long after arriving
From one of the stores
Something for summer
It gets very hot
Searing heat really
It’s cotton
A rose pink color
With a design
Cotton
The skirt is flared
It’s cool in the heat
Comfortable against the skin
Every season
She pulls it out
Though it is old
It’s a part of her now
She has some others
But this is her favorite
The age is showing now
The color is a bit faded
And there are some small holes
Nevertheless she loves it
Like a security blanket
The dress
She bought it
Not long after arriving

They had been together for almost a year
Their time was ending
They had gone out to dinner
In the big city
One last time
Spent time walking around enjoying their time together
They were with her parents
It was spring
The weather was perfect
She wore a lilac colored dress
It was a perfect night
The city was full of magic

Soon they would have to leave
To head back home north
They didn’t want to leave
They didn’t want the night to end
But it had to
They had no choice

When the car came around
They sat in the back
Her parents were in front
As her father drove
They were quiet
Then his hand reached out to her hand
Touching it ever so gently
They sat holding hands the entire drive
Quiet
Together
It was early morning
It was the in between time of
night and day
She went out onto the terrace
She was dressed all in white
There was a slight cool breeze moving through her clothes
Making them move with a slight rhythm

She climbed up onto a black table
She was barefoot
The table was cool to the touch
As she stood on the table she looked out onto the city

She could see for miles
The city was still asleep
She stood at the back of the table
She then spread out her arms
She started running and leapt

As she started falling she changed into an eagle
She flapped her wings and flew
She soared through the sky
She aimed up towards the clouds
Eventually turning to the sun

She had become her true destiny
The eagle
We all have an edge
If we are willing to admit it
It gives us that extra push
To try harder
To excel
To be our best
It helps energize us
Sometimes we lose it
Not through our own doing
It just vanishes
We need it to feel ourselves
It helps guide us in a way
Some call it our groove
Getting our groove back
Because when we have it
We can do anything
He was from a different place
He had come to her home
He was very handsome
He had a different look
But it was pleasant to look at

He was from a different place
He had come to her home
She had never seen anyone like him

He was from a different place
He had come to her home
He was exotic
He was intriguing
He was sublime

He was from a different place
He had come to her home
He was like a new melody
He was like a new dance
He was hypnotic
As the semblance of a facade fades away like a coat being taken off for the night what lies underneath is a beating heart where the soul and spirit truly reside

Take off your coat and lay it down for a rest

Let me feast my eyes upon your heart for a while and see you

Let me listen to your heart and soul as they play the music of you
A beautiful unusual looking feather fell to the ground
It was black, gray and white
It was in perfect condition
It was sitting in between the leaves that had fallen from the trees
Fall had arrived

A small boy was walking home
He found the feather sitting on the ground
He picked it up to look at it
To save it he took one of his school books out from his backpack
He opened the book and put the feather in between the pages and closed the book for safe keeping

He then put the book back into his backpack and continued on his way home
Once he got inside his house, he took out the feather and showed it to his mother

She looked at it and told him to show it to his father when he got home from work

The boy then went upstairs to his room
He put his backpack down on the chair by his desk and took out the book to look at the feather once again

It was absolutely beautiful
He had never seen anything like it
He felt like he had found a treasure
He was tired and wanted to rest
So he put the feather away and took a nap till his father arrived

While he slept the feather opened the book and stood up on one end
It started to turn slowly
As it turned gold sparkles covered the feather glistening in the light
It was pure magic

The feather then went back into the book and closed it
When the boy awoke his father had come home
He grabbed the book with the feather to show his father
His father was an historian
While his father studied it
He walked into his study to find a book on the book shelf
The boy followed his father

The boys father found the book and brought it down from the shelf
It was a very old book with a special leather red cover and gold edged pages

The father looked up the feather and discovered that it had belonged to the head dress  of a former Native American chief named Temacuah. It was magical and also had protective powers

The feather would release its magic only when it was owned by the right person. Otherwise it looked like any other feather

While they were doing their research the feather stood up again on one end and started turning  ever so slowly
As it did, the gold specks on it glistened once again
It was beautiful

The boys father knew this had only happened because his son was the correct owner

They also found out that the feather was very old
Several thousand years old
Yet it showed no age
It was perfect
They had found true magic
They felt blessed
It is a late spring day
Summertime is coming
It’s early afternoon
The sun is out
The sky is a bright blue
There is  a scattering if white clouds across the sky
There is a slight breeze -- not too warm, not too cold
Just perfect
You are sitting in a field of tall grass alone
The grass is a light beige color
The grass sways gently to the breeze and makes a soft rustling sound
The breeze is calming as it touches your face ever so gently
There is no sound only the grass moving to the breeze
You feel complete stillness and calm
You are at peace

The Field of Childhood

When the world grows too sharp
and rage rises like smoke in a sealed room,
She goes —
not with her feet, but with memory.

She runs to the field near her childhood home,
where the sky always opened wide enough
for even her smallest fears to disappear.

There were trees in the distance,
a baseball diamond where laughter once lived,
and grass that never judged —
only welcomed.

The children used to play there
Running, tumbling,
loud with joy,
soft with innocence
She now visits like a chapel.
Sacred and private.

When discord  moves  through a room like fire,
She runs —
not in panic,
but in prayer.
Silent.

To that field.
To the whispering trees.
To the safe ache of childhood.

Some places live inside you
not as memories,
but as medicine.
They heal in their own way.
They are always there.
That field is hers

And when she needs to run
She always knows
exactly where to go.
She is hidden and protected.
She arrived some
time ago
From a long distance
She’s been making her way
Bit by bit
There are places she goes
Where she’s a regular
She feels comfortable and safe
Every morning she greets the
the locals
It’s her way to spread some joy
She’s always loved the phrase
Good morning
It helps to set the tone
She walks up the street
In her neighborhood
Along the way
She watches and looks
Sometimes the sky is gray
And the air is cool
Other times it’s bright blue
and warm
She’s made her place
In her own way
In a world different than her own
That’s called life
She belongs
In her own way
When feeling lost
Go to the forest
Smell the trees
Take in the freshness

When feeling unease
Go to the forest
Feast upon nature
Walk amongst the trees
Listen to the wind

When feeling confused
Go to the forest
Sit amongst the beauty
Let it calm your soul
Let the beauty fill your heart

When you’re not sure what to do
Go to the forest
Listen to answers
Let it inspire you

From a day of pain can come light and comfort
Imagine a clear but lightly shaded gray day
A smattering of puffy gray clouds dot the sky
A cool but not cold air and breeze fills your lungs
The smell of salt and the sea
Sounds of waves crashing to the shore
Soft, silky sand runs through your bare feet and toes
Sitting in the sand half buried sits a glass crystal ball almost glistening
It is about the size of a grapefruit, perhaps a bit larger
As you pick it it up to look at it, you notice a piece of red velvet inside along with a note written on white paper
You open the ball and take out the note to read it
You are instructed to touch the areas where you feel pain and then touch the red velvet inside the ball
You then close the ball back up and return it where you found it and then continue walking down the beach
As you turn around to look at the glass ball one more time you notice it has risen off the ground and is shooting towards the sky where it all but disappears
A short time later you hear an explosion in the sky
As you look up, the sky is a
deep gold color
Threads of gold start to rain down and as they touch you they become golden stars before vanishing
You notice any pain you had is now gone and all you feel is peace and comfort
A man was walking on the solitary beach
He was alone
His clothes were in muted colors
It was a gray cloudy day
Cool but not cold
He is in pain as he slowly walks
Then he comes across a glass ball partially buried in the sand
He stops to look at it
He kneels down and uncovers it He lifts it up to the light
As he does he notices a gold clasp and opens it
Inside is a piece of rich red velvet cloth
On the cloth sits a folded piece of white paper
Curious he opens the paper
Written on the paper are instructions:
Touch the areas where you feel pain on your body
Then, touch your fingers to the cloth
Close up the ball
Put  it back in the sand as you found it
The man follows the instructions and then continues walking down the beach
He hears a sudden sound and turns around to see the glass ball lifting towards the sky
Its inside turning a bright gold color
All of a sudden there is a slight explosion after which a shower of gold stars rain down everywhere
As they cover the man
His pain is gone
He smiles and continues walking down the beach
Grateful for what has happened
There once was a young man that traveled to a different time and place one day

He tripped while walking from his classes and hit his head
When he awoke he found that he had traveled to a different time, place and future

He had no idea how he got there nor how he would return to his own time and place
While there, he discovered a brand new life

One day he met a girl from that time and they became very good friends
They went everywhere together
One didn’t want to be without the other
This continued for quite some time

Until one day a bad storm came with very high winds
The young man was out walking and was swept up into the winds
They lifted him up higher and higher before dropping him hard onto the ground

When he  finally awoke, he found he was no longer in the future but had been returned back to his time and place.
To his great sadness, the girl was also gone

He tried to search for her but couldn’t find her anywhere
He tried to call her but couldn’t reach her
All he could do was think about her
He was at a loss of what to do
He tried everything to return to the other time but couldn’t

He was heartbroken
So was she
She tried as well to find him but had no luck
Sometimes she would dream about him and call out his name

One day he went to the ocean and stared out at the sea. He closed his eyes and called out to her

He removed every thought in his mind except for her hoping she would hear him. Alas nothing happened

He tried doing this over and over during the years with no result

Then finally one day she heard him calling to her across time

She answered
The girl came across all time and distance to see him

She brought herself to his time and place to stay and be with him

Magic
Together forever

They first met in high school
After that they were inseparable
As if there were a golden thread between them
Sometimes they had the same thoughts
They wanted to always be together
Forever
But life got in the way
Through no fault of their own
Decades went by
Though they never forgot the other
They lived in each other’s hearts
It’s as if a golden thread
Tied them to each other
Across both distance and time
One day something extraordinary happened
They had a chance to see each other again
Afterwards, they never separated
The golden thread keeps them together
I’ve got the gray blues
Been cold and rainy for days
My bones ache to the core
I’ve got the gray blues

Missing the sun
Those warm golden rays
Shining down on my face
Lighting the way to another day
I’ve got the gray blues
Craving when they go away
I’ve got the gray blues
Been cold and rainy for days
My bones ache to the core
I’ve got the gray blues

Missing the sun
Those warm golden rays
Shining down on my face
Lighting the way to another day
I’ve got the gray blues
Craving when they go away
He stood on one side of the grill
She stood on the other
The grill was black wrought iron
Somewhat ornate in the design
There were openings throughout it
That’s all that separated them

As they stood on either side he moved closer to her
They looked at each other
Deep into the others eyes
For a moment they got lost in the moment

It was magic
Then he leaned into her and kissed her gently between the openings in the grill
It lasted only a moment

He then smiled
His eyes twinkling
As he laughed with joy
He turned around to leave

She stood at the grill watching him
leave

Once she could no longer see him she closed the door
Savoring the moment
It was magic
He stood on one side of the grill
She stood on the other
The grill was black wrought iron
Somewhat ornate in the design
There were openings throughout it
That’s all that separated them

As they stood on either side he moved closer to her
They looked at each other
Deep into the others eyes
For a moment they got lost in the moment

It was magic
