The gentle pull on my waist as sleep left your body.
The steady stare as the alcohol and lust consumed you.
Your strong and firm kiss when you could not convince me that you loved me more.
The unabated honesty as you confessed that I'm your Daisy Buchanan, and she's our Tom.
The look of sorry deep within your tired blue eyes.
The way you say coffee and hockey and my name.
When you talk about our kids and our home and your job and our future and us.
The anger when you think about him or her or it.
The gentle pecks on my forehead and fingers through my hair and interlaced fingers.
And when you let me in and let me look through the window to your heart.

I walked under the trees,
the crunching leaves beneath my worn shoes,
past the rose bush, left abrasions on my knees,
****** and bruised,

In the Forrest i walked alone,
down the road,
in my heart i found a home,
for nature,
for every beauty,
and every danger,

on the wet rocks i tread,
kicking up the mud on river bed,
the sight of a winding road,
and dark clouds ahead,

every creeping creature,
taking shelter from the storm to come,
trees ripped and torn in the wind,
no blue, no sunshine in the distance,
funny how nature can turn to a beast in an instance.

Eating my meal at the usual fast food spot,
Public intimacy at the counter,
That love bird love,

Seeing person after person walk in,
So many memories in this very seat,
From back then,

Some moved on, some still in touch,
Those days when adrenalin was frequent,
The blood, my heart, would rush,

I still remember sitting on that hill,
In isolation staring out,
Into the stars and clouds,
Wondering what life's about,

This poem, written on a fast food napkin,
Concentration clouded,
By the noise of laughter and a screaming kid tantrum

The skate home that night,
My jacket shielded the cold from my neck,
It was 1 o'clock, no people, no cars in sight,
Except,

That one police car flying by,
Colors of blue and red,
With it sirens ringing,
Past my head.

You're the reason I write
I write for you
Listen to my words
Let them sink in
Listen to my cries
I'm in trouble
This love thing
Crazy love
I'm hooked
No turning back
The ship has sailed
And you left me
Alone
Cold
Scared
You're the reason I write
I write for you
Listen.

you say it's up to me
to do the talking,
you get a phone call from school.
you answer,
nothing but silence at the other end.

"hello, i have your daughter in the
counselors office.
may i speak to brooke's mother?"

you take your finger
and wrap it around the phone wire.

"yes, this is her speaking."

you take a deep breath.

"hello how are you? i have brooke here in the counselors office, i'm sorry to bother you at work today, i'm sure you are busy. but do you have a few minutes to talk with me? i am very concerned about brooke today, her teacher says she wrote her persuasive paper on.."

-she pauses-

"cutting herself,"

you stare at the blank computer screen in front of you, frozen.

"i am very worried about Brooke, she says you knew about her harming her self-"

she stops speaking, waiting on a response.

you take a deep breath, scared, hurt and confused.

"i don't know if you would possibly agree with this, but i think Brooke needs counseling."

you drop the phone, in tears.
little did you know,
that your daughter
was fighting her own demons.
little did you know,
that the little brown and white
snakes tattooed on her wrist,
were a cry for help.
little did you know,
that she wanted
to be saved from herself.

Brooke
you always told me the littlest things
that you loved about me,
wether it was the spark in my eye
or the way i smiled in between
our make out sessions.
usually we'd sit and talk for hours,
trying to understand half
of the things you said.

you told me you loved
most of the things that i couldn't
figure out. it was like solving a jigsaw puzzle.
you loved the way
the sun kissed my face, so you'd reach out and touch it in the most
un expectable way.
you loved the way i teased you
before you leaned in to kiss me,
we both laughed because you
ran out of words to say.

so i told you all of the things i loved
about you.
as i told you, you tried hard
to make it clear that you were listening
and that i had your full attention.
i told you i wasn't good with words
and explaining my self.
but you understood anyway,
you still listened.
i couldn't find a way to
tell you
that i'm in love with you and everything
that you do.

maybe it was in the way
that you put your hand on my face
or the back of my neck,
when you leaned in to kiss me.
but i know that i wouldn't change it
for anything in the world.
