The twilight speaks of greater
Greatness, for your spirit soars
Across the horizons of life and
The living--- leaving an era of

Idealized legacy of redeemed
Human equality and possibility.
The indomitable soul you once
Wore under your colored skin

Fuels our aspirations for a better
World of kaleidoscope of faces,
Races, and happiness. Nelson,
Now that you have entered

The narrow door of immortality,
Let our tears be a vindication to
Your ideals of freedom and
Democracy. Rest in His peace

Our dear old man. For the world
You toiled to change is now our burden
Just as how we are burdened with
Your humility and humanity.
For NELSON MANDELA, one of the greatest souls who ever walked in flesh.

I am wretched and *****
Covered in the filth of insecurity and addiction.
Constantly running
To the lies that promised me life.
Leaving me broken and bleeding
Knocked out on the floor.
This is the war
I will be fighting the rest of my life: the war of recovery.
“It is finished” rings in my ear
While a tsunami of grace washes over me.
Oh how sweet the gospel sounds to ears like mine.

I woke up with a headache again today.
This time because I knew
you didn't want to stay.
It's strange how words repeat themselves.
And no matter how much I thought
it couldn't all be for nothing,
I guess it was.
But that's okay.
I'm used to this place.
At least I know I won't
ever let anyone else in again.
It's just easier than losing
something you never had.
How foolish of me to think
I could ever be what you wanted.
You'll always deserve oceans;
I'm sorry that I am only rain.
And no matter how much I give,
I will never be enough.
You say you don't feel the same
as you used to, and that's okay.
At least you love me enough
to tell me you don't.
“Though my soul may set in darkness,
it will rise in perfect light.
I have loved the stars too fondly
to be fearful of the night.”
I don the belt of old Orion
and sit atop the great winged Pegasus.
I steal riches from cunning Copernicus
and sing ballads to the lonely new moon.
Look there - my bride! Oh fair Andromeda;
She bears our band fashioned from Saturn’s rings.
Her dress woven from strands of silk stardust,
we read our vows to the watching planets
and kiss under the sun’s jealous blaze.
Starstruck, we ride, comets trailing in our wake.
This is my first attempt at a blank verse poem that I did for my poetry class. I was inspired by my favorite poem of all time written by Sarah Williams, The Old Astronomer. The iambic pentameter certainly isn't perfect, but I had fun writing it.

Sometimes you strike me as a
Paper airplane:

Somewhat flimsy,
Somewhat crumpled up
And tired,

Wayward,
Stumbling on and swaying-

A product of all those
Late nights

In night-oil'd
Bars,
Blue-lighted,
Beer-lighted,

And of all those sleepless nights
Preparing for them
Alone,

Unsure how to open and close
Your mouth properly.

Cracked labi,
From lack
Of saliva.

And sometimes you strike me as alive.
Like you wanted it this way.

That
You trained your body to be
Hollow

To allow your spirit
More room to
Dance with the beams of light

That lap at your heels
As you
Approach the
Alikabok:

Cheap ***** playground from youth.
Even the freckles couldn't hide it...
In this world,
In this war
I am lower than a peasant
I am dust,
Subject to the chains and whips of
The Prince of the world,
The Father of lies
But by grace
Through faith
I will make him
Cringe in chills
As I ignore his temporary pleasures
Tremble violently
As I reject his broken promises
Scream out his lungs
As I remain on what is pure
Cower and hide
As I stand up for what is right
Fall to his knees
As I point his lies to the Truth
Then
I will wait,
Wait patiently, earnestly
For the King of the entire Creation
To deliver the final blow,
The finishing act
To return and banish
The Prince of the world
To his ultimate
Ruin
Defeat
