here i am
just a man
flesh and bone
alone i stand
i play the part
mouth to hand
standing here
just a man
there is no need
to envy me
as i'm a product
of all you see
a thin disguise
of wants and needs
just a man
i do believe

You never really know
Which way the wind will blow
How high the grass will grow
In between your toes

You never really see
The heart of destiny
If you never do believe
How high up you can reach

Never will you want
What you haven't got
If you don't give to the thought
Of all that you have not

Never will you know
For whom the bell tolls
How old is really old
Unless it is your told

That's why I'm telling you
The truth and the whole truth
So you'll have time to use it
While still in your youth

Can You...
Give more than you take
Forgive when mistakes are made
Put yourself in others place
Extend a hand of grace

Can You...
Hold on and not let go
Show that love is all you know
Plant the seed and watch it grow
Into something beautiful

Can You...
Give all that you have
Down to the very last
Stand behind the words you've said
If it cost all you have left

Can you...
Fight for what is right
And to your own self  be denied
Choose the narrow not the wide
Where all you do is in light

Can you...
Hold tight to the truth
In all it is you do
In everything you choose
Can all of this you do

You are the sparkle in the delight
The one that hides out in the stars at night
The last wave of the goodbye
The only one who can make me cry

You are the freshness to this scene
The one who holds all of the means
The only one worthy to be deemed
Worthy of all that can be seen

You bring about a change in mind
Where I never have to think it twice
Taking to the very heights
In all I've come to realize

You are the best in all of this
The only one to make the list
Beyond the happy ever after kiss
The only piece of candy in the dish

These thoughts I take out from time to time
To tell you all I have in mind
You are the best in all I find
From here to there to the end of the line

To tell the truth as far as I can see
If I were you I wouldn't want to be me
Far too many issues, way too many needs
To tell the truth as far as I can see

Ask anyone I know intimately
If I were you I wouldn't want to be me
It's a fine line that's drawn with no room to breath
Ask anyone I know intimately

I can only pass mustard to a certain degree
So if I were you I wouldn't want to be me
Do you get the idea or should I repeat
If I were you I wouldn't want to be me

Time holds an emptiness
Standing at my door
With the ringing of the bell
Hoping that I'll answer
While I just hope it goes away
As I can't take it anymore
That's just the way that I'm feeling lately

I find it overwhelming
Though I seldom venture out
There's just some things in this life
I don't care to know about
Like the who's and what's and where's
But especially the how's
That's just the way that I'm feeling lately

So if you feel the need to look for me
I'll be stuck inside
Where you'll not get an answer
As I'd rather hide than go outside
No if's ands buts or maybes
You can go ahead and tell that time
That's just the way that I'm feeling lately

There is no I in denial.
They kiss in bed.
They roll around.

There is no I in denial.
He bought her flowers.
She placed them in a vase.

There is no I in denial.
They hug outside of
traditional thought.

I do not know how we got here,
but I know I don't want us
to stay.

There is no I in denial.
They **** in bathrooms.
They make love in gardens.

There is no I in denial.
She blew a kiss.
He caught a tough break.

There is no I in denial.
He holds a box of his things,
after being shown out.
She says they'll manage.

I do not know how we got here,
but I know I don't want us
to stay.

There is no I in denial.
They kiss in bed,
but it's not the same.
They roll around in bed,
but it begins
to feel
like effort.

There is no I in denial.
He bought her less.
She said it didn't matter.

There is no I in denial.
He feels like his father,
imagining things
she's doing.

I do not know how we got here,
but I know I don't want us
to stay.

There Is No I In Denial.
They don't talk as much.
They sit farther apart.

There Is No I In Denial.
She asks him what's wrong.
He resents her care.

There Is No I In Denial.
He gets drunk and
breaks the vase.
The flowers lay,
covered in wet glass,
sleeping in a puddle.

I do not know how we got here,
but I know I don't want us
to stay.

THERE IS NO I IN DENIAL.
They don't talk, they yell.
They don't remember each other.

THERE IS NO I IN DENIAL.
He drinks more.
She feels less.

THERE IS NO I IN DENIAL.
They were married underneath
an oak tree,
  She said, "I do."
He smiled and said,
  "I'm so lucky."

The flowers lay on the floor,
  dying.

I do not know how we got here,
but I know I don't want us
*to stay.
