Poems

Idris Muntaqim Apr 2020
Bill Withers was a musician and a singer-songwriter;
He was never a professional fighter.

Withers had performed the song, "Ain't No Sunshine," in 1971;
To Withers, being a musician and a singer-songwriter was a lot of fun.

I used to listen to "Ain't No Sunshine" on the radio;
"Ain't No Sunshine" became a breakthrough hit for Withers, in case you didn't know.

Withers had written and performed the song, "Lean on Me," in 1972;
I also used to listen to "Lean on Me" on the radio and what I'm saying is true.

"Lean on Me" is on Rolling Stone's list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time," as you can see;
Withers used to play the keyboards and the guitar and I'm sure you'll agree.

On March 30, 2020, Bill Withers had passed away;
Videos of this man can be watched on YouTube and that's all I have to say.
as is the sea marvelous
from god’s
hands which sent her forth
to sleep upon the world

and the earth withers
the moon crumbles
one by one
stars flutter into dust

but the sea
does not change
and she goes forth out of hands and
she returns into hands

and is with sleep….

love,
    the breaking

of your
        soul
        upon
my lips

Eyes

Sometimes a miraculous thing happens.

The body ages,
And the skin crinkles like an old plastic bag.
And even though the body fades, the soul still fights on.
And the soul comes through the eyes.
And the most crinkled, faded old people will have the deepest eyes. Sometimes deeper than any others. Their soul comes through their eyes and draws everything in.
They glow with a brilliance earned over many years,
And even though the body withers, the eyes stay bright.
