Poems

Sahara,
Did you hear the falling rose,
The beating heart that froze,
Did you see the falling fire in the sky.

Did you sleep in a broken home,
As your fear turned into stone,
Did you know the falling rain could turn you blind.

Sahara,
There must be more to life
Sahara,
When will you open your eyes,
Now I'm here, is it time to say goodbye.

Will the children see the sun,
Do they have to hide and run,
Will Mother always smile when she really cries.

Now the ashes paint the day,
And the night turns cold and grey,
Sahara did you walk into the light.

There must be more to life
Sahara,
When will you open your eyes,
Now I'm here, is it time to say goodbye.

Sahara cradles
the sun-bleached bones of a temple,
still strewn where the blazing heat
washed over it in trembling waves,
draining it of colour and shape,
reducing it to the gnawed on toys
of Sahara's chittering children.

She sighs
as the wind caresses
the curves of her back.
She shifts, slow,
and time covers
the shadow of the holy,
granting it final rest
in a dusty grave
under the watchful silver eye
rising in the heavens.

Sahara cradles
her new ward
to her chest
as the night comes awake.

All I wanted was to build a sandcastle,
Deep in the Sahara desert,
But the sandstorm took everything away,
Now I am on my own in the Sahara desert.
I lost my way in this endless desert,
And I can’t get back to my town.
Is my loved one worried about me?
Or did she already find someone else.
Yesterday I was in the middle of the soft desert,
Happy and excited,
Today I am somewhere deep in the desert,
Lost and broken,
Does she still care?
Or did the sandstorm change her heart.
Yesterday I was sane,
Today I am talking to the stars in the Sahara desert.
