A bright pink head scarf reveals my position not allowing a disguise.
Piercing eyes set me alight
as you stare me down,
pinched by curious frowns
surrounded with whispering tensions.
Shame floods my pores and drowns me in accusations,
Lowering my gaze
anger courses through my veins
At the disgusting disgrace
of my kind.
Their moments of inhumanity, striking nations with tragedy and a horror stricken pain to the Muslim name.
Islamaphobia fame has spurted to tame and it cannot be held to blame,
For sick
                      T W I S T E D
individuals have stained and hate filled memories remain.
This is not my Islam!
I dare to mention
My heart along with yours
weeps for the innocence lost,
the heartbroken families left behind and the fearful scarred onlookers who survived.

I want to fix myself
Gather up the pieces
Work it all out
And solve my problems

Catch these butterflies
And control them
Stand up and face
These fears that constrain me

Ground the nervous shaking
Of this vessel of mine
Cut out the helplessness
And tattoo over the past

Mistakes and regrets
Faults and wrong intents
I've admitted and been shamed
But learnt lessons all the same

No one will ever forget
And forgiveness takes time
So I fell and scarred
My mind and conscious

I want peace
I want a brand new start
To run away and be
The person I aspire in my heart

I fell behind on life
Chasing society as it passed me by
Career and money
Trying to keep up, keep face

Wrong decisions
Blocked paths
Someone else kicked me down
And held my fate in their hands

I needed that job so bad
My desperation was the motivation
The reference never got written
And I never got the chance

I need peace
I want freedom
I chase the life of content
To have no guilt or worries

I got lost
Still stuck finding the way
And a little part of me
Gives up everyday

I Pray

Sometimes I forget
Sometimes I don't see the point
Sometimes I want to
Sometimes I need to
Sometimes it works
The calming effect washes over me
Peace and serenity
Divine light and blessing
When my prayers get answered
I feel special
Sometimes it doesn't work
I must have done something wrong
Maybe I forgot to say amen
Sometimes I'm desperate
Sometimes I feel like I'm on a waiting list
And time is running out
But when they reach my savior
He'll surely make it worth it
Everyday
Every moment
Every second
Every minute
Every hour
Every breath
Every action
I spend in hope
Looking at the signs
And tugging on that rope
I pray for forgiveness
For the times I forgot
I pray in gratitude
For all that was lent to me
I pray for you, I pray for me
For world peace
And the end of poverty
Showers of mercy
To never be tempted by the 7 deadly sins
I pray to fulfil the commandments
Pray to serve and aim to please
Be a favoured amongst He
I pray to redeem

When there is more
Sincerity
And honesty
In kisses at the airport
Than in wedding halls
C'est la vie
When poison
Smells like roses
And the poor
Drink it like wine
Seeing no other way out
C'est la vie
When humans hunt humans
And I'm not talking witches in the dark ages
But folk that have taken alternate
Life choices
In the 21st century
C'est la vie
When this world is not
What your heart expected
Rolling from the top
Plummeting
Into an abyss
Of old memories
When you were young
And simple things meant the world
C'est la vie
When promises are broken
And the tide gets too high
C'est la vie
When your heart sinks
And all the people you love
Can't see through your lies
Surrounded by millions
Somehow your still on your own
C'est la vie
Then you learn
That you will always keep rolling
Breathe and go through the motions
Life it keeps happening
Without permission
But your brain might be on pause
C'est la vie
You entered this world crying
And will leave to the sound of cries
*C'est la vie
C'est la vie: that's life

I am the longing
For the long awaited hug
At an airport
I am the colours of the rainbow
From which you can't choose your favourite
Indecisive
I am a mind which wanders with the clouds
The hum of a lyric you can't remember the song
I am the silence in the loud
Blended behind the scenes
I am the good intentions
Sewn together with flaws
I am a losing battle
A one man army
A human controversy
I am something that can't be seen
Feelings that can't be explained
I am a person in control
Of something that can't be controlled
I am the contradiction
In that sentence
I am the mindless doodle on a paper
The habit of a lifetime
Too unconscious to quit
I am the blanket on my couch
The curtains on the window
Blocking out the light
I am the salt in the tears
The unanswerable question
I am the product inefficient of life

Inside

I don't know what I expected
but it wasn't this
I never thought we would ever
be awkward
uncomfortable silences
forced smiles
a sickening politeness
when we're both dying inside
just say something
tell me once
stop me
and I'll turn around
I'm not that strong
if only you knew
my weakness was you
that day
a stubborn pride got in our way
too proud to be the first to submit
first to let go or forgive
but I was begging you inside
inside I was broken
inside I wept

God came one day to Abraham
Saying Abe my son I have this plan
See all these stars up in the sky
To your kin folk I will give life

So Abraham being a righteous man
Had two sons all in Gods plan
But being old he and his wife couldn't wait
So he laid with a female slave

Miracles from above
Ishmael and Isaac grew up
But a test came for his love
God had asked for his trust

Hagar was left behind
As father and son travelled the dessert
Where he had been called to testify
How he could pioneer and turn to right
Bring civilisation to God's light

Now we all know the test was passed
Or we wouldn't be here today
Speaking of the saviours who brought us to God's way

From Abraham came his sons
The messengers forever honoured
In Christianity, Judaism and Islam
Jacob, Moses, Elijah and Jonah

Zechariyah, John, Soloman and Noah
From them came Jesus and Mohammed
So we say peace be upon them all
And peace be upon this world

United we stand
For our ancestors were one
From the same blood we began
For the same Lord we bow...

Self destruction
In a place where nothing is certain
When someone needs saving
From themselves

The way you don't need anyone
The one's you needed are all gone
Your searching for someone to hate
Anything to make you feel something in change of nothing

You'd rather be alone
And spend your days drowning
Wondering the streets
Inhaling the smoke as it darkens the lightness of your soul

Everyone here is out for something
You no longer believe in genuine
They get paid to look after you
And the therapist gets paid to understand things that don't make sense

But as long as I got you
I have myself
