i say ‘hit me’ and ‘kiss me’ in the same breath
can’t choose which hurt won
you were a bad idea from the start
you were never much fun
and i know i broke your heart
but there wasn’t much left of it to begin with

tender caress, a kiss all teeth
call it penance
call it vengeance
sweet distress, nothin’ underneath

our ten years out of sight
i’m alright in the sun
when the day’s just begun
i only ever think of you at night

spit hits its mark
hatred’s better in the dark
face turns heel in the dark
more bite than bark

and no matter how i try
a clear lack of vision
a history of indecision
i remember how you look when you cry

now you say i'm guilty
i’ll gladly take the blame
call it fuel for the flame
i hope to god one day consumes me

i said ‘kiss me’ like a dare
knew exactly what i was doin’
i shoulda stayed away
don’t know who i was foolin’
i shoulda waited for sober day
now i say ‘hitmehitmehitme’ like a prayer.

Old Green Eyes

Clever girl, you fool them so well.

Well spoken, well said
Roof over head
Belly well fed
Not poor, not lacking

              always wanting

Hackles raised, you’re a stray dog
Fight for scraps by day
Sleep near hearth by night
Stray dog, fraud dog
Only starving for attention

Cold street, claws click clack
Where's your owner, Green Eyes
Jaws drip slobber, white teeth snap
Not poor, not lacking

              always wanting

Clever girl, keep your monster out of sight.
