I've cast aside memories like falling pennies
from my pockets filled with scraps of paper and pleadings
for joy or action

some might feel a distraction

stepping so lightly across puddles that appear
and dry to soon to the sun's burning rays
as if they were never there

you might think it would cause fear

and falling into passions that drift
through filtered memories
you grasp without thinking

you've got to because you are sinking

pleasures hurry down your backyard streets
fast now man... can't you see
no way to stop this wave

sit back anticipate the crave

sinking... blinking eyes now winking
sending rending never mending
things rings and nighttime flings
remorse of course... divorce
forget... don't fret or have regret
get going stop showing ... start growing
temptation... elation... emancipation
more to adore when you start to explore
it's life... with strife... and cuts like a knife

judgment pales when order is broken
engulfed and corrupt in all that gets spoken
and links to a lost lamenting sorrow
we must turn to beg, steal and borrow

a touch of adore and affectionate surprise
reminiscence and memories deep in your eyes
turns heads then hearts and snaps to attention
faltering apologetically at the mere mention

adrift adeptly to order the cure
so plainly and succinctly she can act demure
eliminate sadness complacency or shame
abruptly parting and now placing the blame

recalcitrant and diminished... hang on and hold tight
amused and bemused now in distant flight
like unwelcomed thoughts cutting and cold
all will be judged when this story gets told

deep and carefree among the stars
vast dark carpet of endless universes
amidst our sprinkles of humanity
we drift along in certitude in our destiny
our inner being even more vast
than that what we gaze upon in wonderment
fear and longing
is there more for us or more of us
motionless we feel still yet
we rocket through this spinning nothingness
filled with all the monuments and
epochs of histories and calamities,
spartan and over flooded with grandeur
limitless adoration for being and seeing
what we have wrought and brought
  nations and people and prairies
and all of nature's fine doodles
makings in ever flowing ever growing
profundity and fantasy
so we can ask "how is your day going"

eyes filled with tears
   torn from lost memories
shadows echo laughing times
is there music to soften the swirling pain

head rocking slowly
  easing a trembling soul
rubbing fingertips lightly
so much that was lost can remain

scavenge a fumbling mind
  now seemingly cast abruptly adrift
yearnings and shivers
a smell of myrrh and lilacs follows this rain

i think i'll walk the beach and crush sand under my feet
or maybe ride the subway standing still while i bounce about
i could walk the concrete walkway
or
         just stroll a grassy path
it's all just taking steps... look down or up
and watch the sun dance with the clouds... or trees whisper
and bend... or rock and roll as you hold on to the poll

just so you are going
heading out, moving along to your beat... making haste
or a slow retreat.. who's looking anyway...
if so, do they know ... where you're going or why...?
and tip your hat
if you haven't got one, just smile and keep strolling...
